With Gameweek 21 done and dusted, we dig deep into the data in our regular Sunday evening article. A trio of in-form midfielders at Arsenal, Man City and Swansea are amongst tonight’s topics, whilst we also assess United’s alarming attack, Burnley’s raiding right-back and the main men for West Brom and Palace as Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew kick-start their respective stints at the helm with a victory.

Never again for Front 8. Always Front 7 with Boyd.
A lot of pain and tears in Rotating Front 8.

Yup, have 23 points on the bench from my front 8 over the past 3 GWs.

      GW19: Siggy, GW20: Bony, GW21: Downing.

Ditching the front 8 on WC. Looks great on "Transfers" page and RMT...but you know it's going to explode in your face on "Pick Team".

Who would you bench from this lot?

    Hazard (swa)
    Sanchez (mcy)
    Eriksen (SUN)
    Silva (ARS)
    Downing (HUL)
    Costa (swa)
    Kane (SUN)
    Ings (CPL)

I guess Downing is probably the least explosive, but he has a plum fixture.

And I refuse to bench Sanchez despite what the RMT tool says!

It's swaying me away from B) below... which do you prefer?

        A) Silva & Austin -> Albrighton & Aguero
        B) Debuchy & Austin -> Baines & Ings

        Hart, Elliot

I got considered sanchez b4 but his form against stoke means its very dangerous to do so. City also not the most defensive n pacy walcott got a brace last season which ends 6-2.

Bench downing out of sanchez n downing

Eriksen Downing Silva in that order for me, maybe you should consider your rank though, and bench the lowest owned player, which im assuming would be Ings, but i can see him bagging at least 1 probaly 2, and maximum bonus

    RP from last night.

    1. Not sure about Baird's and Cameron's gametime.
    2. ADM rusty.
    3. Walcott and Sturridge due a return soon. (Big differentials)
    4. Not willing to take out Rooney(QPR,lei) and Baines(WBA,cry) before two plum fixtures.
    5. Not sure about 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.

Too many uncertainities. Think it's best to hold the WC.

    Any counter arguments?

Without knowing your full circumstances, my only advice would be if you have a decent XI already i would hold until as late as possible, i wildcarded and my original team outscored my new one my 20 points, and my rank has dropped to double to what is was

Yep, Southampton and Chelsea back lines all of a sudden are not 100 % certain of whos who now and the cheap 3.9s are auditioning still, and the defence is where the difference will be

Suggestions on my WC team please:

    Foster - Heaton
    Terry - Bert - Clyne - Wisdom - Wasil
    Sanchez - Haz - Fab - Silva - Boyd
    Aguero - Austin - Kane

    0.2 in the bank

Double Saints at the back too risky?
Double Chelsea in mid too risky?
    GK rotation any good?

You will never start Chadli over any of those other four midfielders regardless of fixture unless one of them gets injured. Nor would you likely start him over either Kane or Austin. I'd rather put those funds into defense and get a 4.something midfielder in his stead. Good luck with it though, Jaf.

Still not sold on Baird...but if he can come away from the transfer window without any further competition for his place then he could be the pick of the litter. Anyway...a solid tactic for sure. Imagine if we tripled Palace defense last season once Pulis was put in place.

He's more of a consistent place holder who will score plenty of points and if another premium striker starts doing well it's an easy swap. Austin has tough fixtures coming up and no obvious replacement in that price bracket

    Foster - Hamer
    Baines - Azpilicueta - Naylor - Saylor - Hutton

RVP injured, Falcao angered and two of the worst defenses in the league in the form of QPR and Leicester up next for Rooney who would be the main striker now.

        See my point? 😉

        1. Walsh
          • 12 Years

No, I don't. His manager is playing him as a deep midfielder and it's difficult to get good FPL returns from that position. Aguero is the best player in the game and is due to continue to rise in price accordingly. It's a no brainer.

          1. pundit of punts
            • 13 Years

He won't play there in the next 2 games is what I'm saying as RVP and falcao are out. He will be the main striker and will have pens as well.

And as far as Aguero is concerned I can get him for a hit without losing Rooney. I feel Rooney could easily better Aguero's return in the next two given the circumstances.

            1. Walsh
              • 12 Years

Falcao can easily come back in next game. AdM could retain his spot. There is no way to know what the mad scientist LvG will do with his formation or how he will persist. An argument could be made that Rooney should have changed position for the past month running, but here we are. I'd rather see it to believe it rather than expect or assume it to happen because it seemingly makes sense. LvG seems to do things which combat sense. I'm just not in agreement with you on Rooney and I think he's a rubbish FPL pick for the time being. I still like you though, PoP 🙂

I like you too Walsh. 🙂

I see where you're coming from. But don't forget Rooney scored 16 points a few gws ago playing in that holding mf position. 😉

Now the RVP injury makes Rooney an automatic choice for the striker's spot I think.

Moreover, Rooney had to play CM all this while beacause Fellaini,Herrera and ADM were all out injured and United were short in numbers in that position and Rooney being the utility player he is, he filled in.

Now that they are back I'd relly be surprised if Rooney continues to play deep.

That's the thing - Pulis will go there uber defensive so there's a good chance of an EVE cleanie. Even without attacking returns Baines could be on for Bonus. I don't think it's as silly as it sounds.

Burnley aren't playing the same way they were early on in the season. They're much more open and far less resolved defensively. Shipped three to Newc and then conceded to QPR at home. If that isn't an indication of what is to come I don't know what is. I would want no part...and after those three fixtures it's just a transfer waiting to happen.

All this talk about having a very cheap 5th mid.. however, considerin this is the season where we have loads of bargains upfront(Kane, Austin etc) and in midfield(Chadli, Siggy, Downing) and just Terry/a Soton defender worth shelling out in defense theres a lot of funds to spare. Who else here is not going the Boyd route? Had Kane since 5.2, Austin since 5.7 and Downing since 5.7 so considerin keeping all 3(may swap downing for the chad on WC though) as my cheapies(+Siggy) and ignoring the Boyd route.

Nothing wrong with a big 8 and rotating according to fixtures. It's just another way of doing things, like a 352 or a 343. What I would say is does it provide a good balance? The ability to jump on the latest bandwagon is important so I think you need a range of price brackets in your squad to make this easier

When people get annoyed with benched points, it reminds me of people who get annoyed when they fold a bad hand in poker and it would've flopped quads.

Personally I don't get annoyed with either if I feel I objectively made the best choice. What would be annoying is if you fold a good hand like QJ out of fear, or you bench someone like Sanchez on a hunch.

    Anyway I'm just rambling!
