A sceptical Arsene Wenger admits Alexis Sanchez is determined to prove his fitness in time for tomorrow’s North London derby. Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama could return for Southampton’s trip to QPR. Everton could welcome back James McCarthy for the Merseyside derby. Connor Wickham is set to miss Sunderland’s trip to Swansea. Alan Pardew remains without Mile Jedinak for the weekend, while Ron Vlaar could make a return to action as Chelsea roll into town:

As Arsenal gear up for tomorrow lunchtime’s trip to Tottenham, Arsene Wenger confirmed yesterday that the Gunners would be without Alexis Sanchez due to an ongoing hamstring injury. This morning, however, Wenger initially ruled out the Chilean again only to backtrack and suggest he will be assessed:

“Sanchez is out but he wants to have a go (in training) today. It’s not easy to tell him he’s not playing. He wants to play – he’s so keen. He feels he can defy the medical people because he is so keen to play. I don’t know if he can. I will see today.”

Elsewhere, the Gunners boss revealed Danny Welbeck is back in the group, with the rest of the squad expected to be the same as the one that played Aston Villa, according to Wenger. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere remain out for the weekend, though are closing in on a return to full training.

Southampton have received a big boost ahead of their visit to Loftus Road, with Ronald Koeman confirming that midfielders Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama should be available for selection, after recent injury troubles. There is less positive news on Toby Alderweireld though, with Koeman ruling the Belgian out of Southampton’s next two league fixtures. New signing Filip Djuricic will also miss out at the weekend, as he’s still awaiting his work permit.

Roberto Martinez believes James McCarthy will be in Everton’s squad for the Merseyside derby, having refuted suggestions that the midfielder had suffered a setback on his return from injury. Meanwhile, Tim Howard has made a return to training, though is unlikely to be risked for the weekend and will instead be given an extra week to get fit, according to Martinez. The Toffees boss has also revealed that Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar are expected to make their returns from injury and join the rest of the squad soon.

Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has been ruled out the trip to Swansea with a calf injury picked up in midweek. Gus Poyet is also sweating on the fitness of Adam Johnson, Jack Rodwell and Emanuele Giaccherini for the weekend, with the trio all rated as “50-50” to be involved.

Alan Pardew has confirmed that skipper Mile Jedinak will miss the trip to Leicester, after returning from the Asian Cup with a sore ankle.

Ron Vlaar and Joe Cole could return from injury for Aston Villa ahead of the weekend visit of Chelsea. The pair had been absent with knee and hamstring injuries respectively, but are expected to be in contention to face the Blues should they come through their final training session today.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

WC team, feedback welcome! I know Zouma is a big risk, and not convinced by ADM, but has to come good at some point surely?
Cheap defence due to these teams having the best fixtures.

    Work in progress:

    Krul Panti
    Bellerin Zouma Wisdom Hutton PvA
    Haz Carz Silva ADM Walters
    Aguero Giroud Kane

£2.1m ITB and another WC available when needed.

With the imminent return of Sanchez, I'm reluctant to ship him.

Therefore is 5.2.3 a crazy formation (if Sanchez doesn't play) to play this week with my defenders having the below fixtures?

    Burnley(A) Hull(H) AVL(A) WHU(A) CRY(H)

I'll start Sanchez in the hope he plays but it likely means Chadli, Boyd and Sanchez on my bench if he doesn't.

Or should I play Chadli over one of my defenders?

I'm hopeful for Moses. Was disappointed he had no involvement in last week's goals. Think they'll come.

Even if Sanchez plays tomorrow. With Ozil and Wally back the points will be spread out.
Walcott at 3 million cheapers gives u funds to make the rest of ur team solid.

I think Walcott will make way when Sanchez starts (I own Walcott).

Or sanchez will have even better chances for goals and assists. They're scoring for fun

      keeping because:
      1. Have Boyd to cover
      2. Has a chance of featuring vs spurs
      3. Arsene's comments in latest presser promising for LEI
      4. Got him @ 10.5
      5. Fixtures released before deadline midweek
      6. It's ALEXIS!!!!!!

Most of them are in defence/GK but got a couple of midfielders I'm excited about. Still got everyone I thiink I need to have in my team.

Captaining Silva instead of Aguero is madness, right?

I have some good feeling about Silva, he has great record against Hull and Kun isn't in form.

I think Aguero is the better pick...but Silva should do well too.

Although I think Aguero is in form...its just he's played against Arsenal and Chelsea in the last two. In terms of his underlying stats he has still put in a strong performance....among the best in terms of shots in the box over the last two gameweeks.

There is a massive difference between not scoring against Chelsea and not scoring against Hull. If he blanks against Hull then yes he is in poor form. But that is a massive if considering his stats and Hull's terrible recent record.

It isn't just about underlying stats like shots in the box though. He missed a 1 on 1 vs Chelsea that he should have scored and the shot for the Silva goal was going wide - should have done better. Of course everyone is allowed to miss the odd chance but Aguero on top form scores the big chances.

He may or may not be in form but the fact he has missed chances is a (very small) concern

He has 7 shots IN the box, of which only 2 are on target. How on Earth can this be considered good form, Jonty? I have him by the way - but I am under no illusions. Hope not expectation is my watchword here.

Though against Hull I'd reckon even those shots off target would somehow wind up in the net. 😉

I didn't consider this but it could be great. Silva has been in the best form recently.

Already got Clyne. Would you rather double up with Fonte or go with Phil Jones. Will be replacing Bertrand. I have had double Southampton defence for last couple of weeks and it hasn't done very well so leaning towards Jones. Thoughts?
