We take another look around the treatment rooms this evening to assess the latest batch of injuries sustained over the weekend action. Tony Pulis has worries up front, Leighton Baines is a concern for Everton, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is doubtful for the Swans’ trip to Tottenham.

Arsenal
The Gunners have concerns over Francis Coquelin after the midfield battler was forced off with a broken nose against Everton. After the 2-0 win, Arsene Wenger went on to say:

“Yes [he has broken his nose]. I don’t know [how long he will be out], I hope not. I don’t know whether he will need surgery or not. They told me he was bleeding but that he could stay on. The second time he was hit again so after that I had to take him off. I had been told by the medical people that he could stay on. He wanted to stay on. He didn’t play here for a long time so now that he plays, of course he doesn’t want to come off the pitch”.

Aston Villa
Tim Sherwood’s worries at left-back continued yesterday. Deprived of both Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson for the trip to Newcastle, the Villa boss handed Matt Lowton a rare start only to see the defender forced off through injury in the last ten minutes of the 1-0 loss.

Crystal Palace
Jordon Mutch lasted just 32 minutes of the Eagles’ 3-1 win over West Ham before being forced off with a thigh injury.

Everton
Leighton Baines missed today’s loss at Arsenal with a leg problem sustained in training. Speaking to the club’s website, Roberto Martinez revealed the left-back has question marks hanging over his availability for the midweek trip to the Britannia:

”We tried to give Leighton a breather against Young Boys on Thursday in the Europa League so that he was fully fit for today, but unfortunately he got a knock to his left quad on Friday and was out of this squad. I don’t know if he is going to be available for Wednesday – I doubt it.”

Hull
Robbie Brady seems poised for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a calf complaint in training prior to yesterday’s loss at Stoke. Tigers boss Steve Bruce revealed:

”Brady pulled up with a horrible calf injury yesterday. He could be out for weeks, months. Unfortunately he’s damaged his calf really, really badly. He couldn’t walk yesterday.”

Bruce also explained the reasons behind the omission of front two Nikica Jelavic and Dame N’Doye from the starting line-up, with the latter travelling back to Russia earlier in the week:

”Unfortunately, Jelavic’s knee was sore yesterday morning so we couldn’t take a risk there and N’Doye has been halfway around the world again this week.”

Hull are also sweating over the fitness of David Meyler after the midfielder was withdrawn due to injury at the Britannia.

Liverpool
Jordon Ibe missed today’s win over City due to injury, according to the local press.

Man United
Louis van Gaal was without Phil Jones and Luke Shaw for the 2-0 win over Sunderland, whilst back-up stopper Victor Valdes also missed out. Speaking to MUTV, the Dutchman went on to say:

“Shaw had a tight hamstring and Jones was ill. I cannot put players who are ill and tired in my line-up. Victor Valdes also has a problem and wasn’t on the bench. I had to make three changes during our final day of preparation.”

Newcastle
Massadio Haidara was stretchered off during the Magpies 1-0 win over Villa but according to the local press, the defender has confirmed his withdrawal was no more than precautionary.

Manager John Carver is also optimistic on a quick return for the cut-priced defender:

“It’s his knee. He’s got an on-going issue with it, but it’s not too serious, so we will see what he’s like tomorrow. Hopefully, he should be available for Wednesday.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes is set to be without Stephen Ireland for the foreseeable future after the midfielder was withdrawn at half-time with a calf injury wound against Hull. Post-match, a livid Hughes slammed the tackle by Tigers’ defender Maynor Figueroa:

“It was a shocking challenge. It could have finished Stephen’s career. Why it is not a straight red, I have no idea. There has been a lot of talk of challenges recently but this was worse than any of them. We have lost Stephen for any number of weeks. He is in a bad way. He has a slice on his calf and needed 12 or 15 stitches. He has come in at half-time, rolled his sock down, and everyone was taken aback by the severity of the gash.”

Sunderland
The Black Cats’ on-loan winger Ricky Alvarez is rated as “touch and go” for the midweek clash against Hull, according to Gus Poyet.

Swansea
Gylfi Sigurdsson missed the Swans’ 1-0 win at Burnley with “a slight hamstring concern”, according to the club’s official website.

West Brom
Tony Pulis is facing a potential crisis up front ahead of the Baggies’ midweek derby against Villa. With Victor Anichebe missing out due to a groin problem, both Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye were given pain-killing injections prior to yesterday’s win over Southampton but neither player was able to finish the match. After watching his strikers hobble off, the West Brom manager conceded:

“Berahino has not trained all week and he might have to do that next week. It’s to do with his ankle or foot. We have a weakness up front in terms of numbers. The last 15 or 20 minutes we have had to play Stephane Sessegnon up there. Brown Ideye and Saido were both carrying knocks even before the game. It just shows they have got good spirit in the dressing room and people want to play. Saido had an injection before the game and maybe he should have one before every game, scoring goals like that. We will dust them all down and see where we are.”

If West Brom make it to the Cup semi finals, then Palace would have a possible tasty GW34 - WBA/HUL. But that hasn't happened yet!

Di Maria & Gayle > Coutinho & Austin for a -4 hit. Sound good?

    Foster
    Clyne - Koscielny - Wollschied
Di Maria - Sanchez - Hazard - Eriksen
    Aguero - Kane - Gayle

Hamer - Van Arnholt - Boyd - Taylor

    Pick 3 for this GW:

Alderweireld (PAL), Terry (W Ham), Wollscheid (EVE), PvA (Hull), Jones (New)

Please assume all 5 will start. Thanks.

Toby, Terry and Jones if he's in the XI, IMO.
If he isn't or if there are other news confirmed beforehand, I'd start wolly

Toby I'll be able to see before deadline. Jones was only a virus and I should imagine he'll start alongside Smalling.

Actually I quite like them all. PvA should play with Brown out and Hull (a) could offer attacking possibilities for him as well as a realistic clean sheet chance.

        Thanks for your views anyway.

*I do think Coutinho will deliver vs Bunrley though, in fact I'm sure. Yet, Mane is still a decent option and Palace are not the most solid of sides at the back

No. Likely to score as many points v Burnley as Eriksen will all next week.

There are some mids I'd shift for Eriksen (ADM, Walcott, Sanchez) but Sterling isn't one of them. 😉

I think this a good case of betting better safe than sorry Dave, attackers have the higher ceiling for points and it's always a risk benching them. (look at Kane's haul vs Chelsea)
Especially if the defender you're keen to start doesn't have the best clean sheet fixture on paper.

yeah much appreciated, I'm an extremely lucky guy in that I benched kane two weeks running where he got double figures (ARS + LIV) but played wisdom who was dropped for both those games, guess I'm due a lil bad luck so I expect should I bench N'doye he'll bag a hat-trick of bicycle kicks and should I bench PVA and bruce they'll do the same

charlie austin - last time he got something in a home game was 20 dec v w brom when he scored a hat-trick

eriksen- hasn't done a thing for 3 gameweeks

Spurs def - Spurs have kept 4 cleansheets this season, less than QPR. Let that sink in.

I have a bad feeling about this it's like I am bringing in duds but it's a dgw so it's ok.

Spurs' defence is a no-go for me. Kane and Eriksen are good picks. Austin is a risk but when Defoe is the alternative(at least in my case), it's a risk worth taking.

All very true. But every man and his dog will have austin/eriksen/kane

you know player like Ericsken and Austin are capable of double digits or even hattrick in case of Austin. They look better at home and I sense that even recent statistics are not going in their favour statistically they will break this draught sooner than later and start to hit big points. ou want to have them when it happens.

Would be a sin not to purchase them in double week, both will play 90mins every game and spurs will surely have a one clean sheet from the two games. They just need to start picking them..

Before I pull the trigger... Worth it?

Cazorla, ADM, Defoe > Eriksen, Silva, Austin (-4)

Maybe just ADM and Defoe -> Ericksen and Austin for free

So I was planning Cazorla > Eriksen for the DGW, but I'm considering doing Sanchez > Eriksen instead as it would give me the money to do Austin > Costa for GW29.

Make sense or stick with original plan to ship Cazorla?

*who else can you afford to replace Austin with? Rest of team Fionn?

If I did Caz>Eriksen I'd have £2m in the bank next week, would probably need to look at Clichy if he doesn't start getting some gametime. Not a huge amount of mid-price options for strikers so may have to stick with Austin for a bit. I'd have £8.3m for a replacement though

          Foster
          Clyne Bellerin Clichy
          Cazorla Hazard Sanchez Silva
          Kane(c) Aguero Austin

          Bench - PVA, Dawson, Ameobi

I see, that is tough Fionn. I'd look to sell Clichy soon though, as I also have him and he's holding up too much money to be worth investment right now. Either way, I'd want rid of Austin right after his DGW, so it looks like you're forced to to sell Sanchez is you want to have a solid striker. Not sure if it's like for like though, if you sold Clichy for a cheapie, would you be able to afford Costa/Studge?

            1. FionnMac
              • 15 Years
              10 years, 11 months ago

Nope would be a bit short of cash to do that. Of course It worries me a bit to go without Sanchez, but beginning to make more sense to go that way. I'd get Costa for GW28, and then probably Clichy>Berty or Toby to double up on Soton vs Burnley in GW29.

The Caz>Erik option would maybe lead me towards something like Clichy>Ivan in GW28 with £2m in the bank, but would maybe leave it a bit tricky to upgrade Austin in next few weeks. Although I do have WC still to use for the big DGW.

Thx for help, how's your team shaping up this week?

Damn you Walcott, why is Wenger not playing you. Surely will start against QPR?

    Foster
    Terry Fonte PVA Naughton Haidara
    Haz Sanchez Walcott Mane Boyd
    Aguero Giroud Kane

    A) Sanchez/Mane/Giroud > Sterling, Eriksen, Austin -8
    B) Sanchez/Mane > Sterling Eriksen, -4
    C) Sanchez > Erkisen for free
    D) Walcott > Eriksen for free
    E) Something else?

No plan although losing Sanchez would help a great deal. Also waiting on yellow cards.

Would want him for GW34 probably

Basically did my transfers tonight because I like looking at players with double gameweeks when I hit "pick team"

Sounds like perfectly solid reasoning to me.
