Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

There’s no surprise to see that Tottenham’s man of the moment Harry Kane is the runaway favourite ahead of a double Gameweek for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. With 12 goals in his last 11 appearances, the 6.2-priced striker – selected by over 64% – has blanked just twice and registered five sets of 10+ points hauls over that period ahead of showdowns with Swansea and QPR.

Sergio Aguero earns second spot as City welcome Leicester to the Etihad. The Argentine has now earned points in each of the last five Gameweeks and bearing in mind the Foxes have conceded at least twice in nine of their last ten away matches, he looks likely to deliver for his 12% backers.

Christian Eriksen earns 5% of the votes for Tottenham’s double. The Dane has now drawn blanks in each of his last three but has already served up a 13-point haul against visitors Swansea earlier in the season, whilst the R’s dire defensive displays – 45 goals against is joint worst along with Burnley – certainly bode well as he looks to add to his nine-goal tally. Romelu Lukaku also earns 5% of the votes cast despite scoring once since Gameweek 14.

Charlie Austin has served up a goal and assist in his last three matches and is boosted by back-to-back home clashes with Arsenal and Spurs. The R’s frontman has proven somewhat fixture-proof, though, and has netted against four of the top six (Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Southampton) already – when on the pitch, he’s played a part in 61% of QPR’s home goals this season.

Southampton’s Sadio Mane is the only other player with more than 1% of the votes cast. He plays host to a Palace side with one shut-out in seven under Alan Pardew and was handed a brief role up front against West Brom last weekend before a switch of formation by Ronald Koeman. David Silva has five goals and an assist in his last six home matches as Leicester come calling, including hauls of 16 and 17 points, whilst Wayne Rooney is also in contention for United’s trip to Newcastle after a move up front helped him bag a brace against Sunderland on Saturday.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Haven't watched Walker much this season. Does he still do that thing of head-down charging at the box and hammering the ball into the stands 2-3 times a game?

      Sanchez / Cazorla > Silva

The other move depends which one. If it's Sanchez then I can get a Spurs defender as well.

      Thoughts?

        - Caz out before Sanchez for me, Alexis drop off has been alarming has to stop sometime?

        I'm stuck on Giroud > Austin -4
        Head says Giroud,

After my alcohol fuelled 12 point knee-jerk hit on Sunday I'm left with a midfield selection headache…

    Ozil (QPR A)
    Mane (PAL H)
    Hazard (WHU A)
    Eriksen (DGW)
    Coutinho (BUR H)

    Who to drop??

I have Sturridge (BUR H), Aguero and Kane upfront.

Yep, Kane is involved in a higher percentage of his team's goals, Aguero might share a goal with Dzeko/Bony/Silva/Yaya, Kane can only share points with Eriksen really in the league.

Always thought the sharing points thing was absolute nonsense . Spurs have 41 goals and City have 57 . Kane is more likely to score for Spurs but City are more likely to score full stop .

So captaincy! My rival has a big lead and he's captaining the obvious pick Kane as will everyone else probably. The more I look at it the more tempting Eriksen looks. He can play congested schedules, he played every single EPL minute over the christmas period, in fact played every minute from end of November in to February so there's nothing to suggest he won't start both matches this week.
Also, where Kane is fixture proof getting his big scores against Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal as well as weaker teams - Eriksen's big hauls are mostly against weak defenses like Sunderland, Hull, Swansea, Everton like this week's opposition.
Kane still edges it for me, mostly because of pen duty, but I don't think the 64% : 5% poll is a fair reflection of their prospects

    1. WHY ALWAYS MESUT?
      • 12 Years

I mean serious lagging behind i.e. nothing to lose/reckless. Hoping for champions league spot as best. Kane plays one GW bottles it, Aguero runs riot like he did against Spurs (funnily enough) earlier in the season...that's best case scenario.

I just can't decide: Silva or Sterling out for Eriksen? Rest of the mid is Hazard, Ozil and Boyd. Can't do Boyd --> Eriksen without taking a hit..

I just wouldn't do it fam. But if I were probably Silva, if you have Aguero that is.

I have been worrying for the past half an hour about the possibility of Terry being rested (probably won't be anyway), then I realised that I sold him last week! 🙂

I can't risk an Eriksen 20 pointer with so many in the top 1k bringing him in

Caz to Eriksen is my FT this week.

Four games for Eriksen and Auston vs two for Cazorla and Gayle means you should at least break even on your -4 hit

What, in your humble, is an acceptable score in a DGW for your skipper?

Anything less than 20 and I'll be hugely disappointed metjinks

My skipper has just got the one game. as long as he beats Kane overall its a huge victory.

Worried that i got abit trigger happy!

    Panti, Foster
    Fonte, Rose, PVA, Bellerin, Wolfman
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Erikson, Walters
    Aguero, Kane, Austin

Plenty of time to manage next DGW

I dont posy many of these so feedback would be great!

    Thanks
    Mo

    Foster (Krul)
    Ivanovic, Wollscheid, Bertrand (Naughton, Haidara)
    Haz, Sanchez, Eriksen, Silva (Ibe)
    Kane (c) , Kun(vc), Sakho

Thoughts? Worth it to drop Ibe for Phillips (QPR) and sit Sakho this week?

Just come on here and people are saying Silva is a better option than Eriksen this week. Have I missed some Eriksen news? Silva is unreliable at the best of times, surely a DGW Eriksen is a better option?

I have both Dzeko and Bony in my squad (don't ask its a draft picked league)

I think City will drill Leicester this weekend but im not sure about either of their minutes.

1 - Play both Dzeko and Bony
2 - Play Dzeko and Downing (Bony Bench)
3 - Play Bony and Downing (Dzeko Bench)
    4 - Play Neither.

    Cheers guys
