Manchester City were left to rue their misses chances as Sergio Aguero came up short for the fifth week in succession at Selhurst Park. Meanwhile, Glenn Murray’s form under the stewardship of Eagles boss Alan Pardew is becoming ever-more difficult to pass up.

City’s title dream shattered by brilliant Palace

Manchester City’s hopes of securing back-to-back Premier League titles have all but disappeared following a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession (74%) and dominating with regards to attempts on goal (22 to Palace’s five), the visitors’ erratic shooting means that Julian Speroni was only forced to attempt one more save (four) than Joe Hart (three).

Sergio Aguero, once again, was conspicuous in his impotency: the Argentine managed nine shots at West Bromwich Albion last Gameweek but could only fashion three attempts on goal against Alan Pardew’s outfit, with just one of these efforts testing Speroni. Coming off the back of blanks in each of the past five Gameweeks, Aguero’s tally of three goals in 11 outings since returning from injury makes a mockery of his 12.6 price tag and his lack of form is of real concern as the Sky Blues prepare to lock horns with a United defence that’s conceded a mere two goals in their previous five outings. Nonetheless, Aguero’s 25% ownership will be loath to cash in on the dormant big-hitter for fear of him delivering strong attacking returns in three favourable home ties (WHU, AVL, QPR) in the four matches following the Manchester derby.

Yaye Toure’s first goal in five starts proved insufficient to inspire a City comeback. The Ivory Coast international offered a far greater goal threat than in previous matches, though, attempting double the amount of shots (eight) than any other midfielder in the league during Gameweek 31. Moreover, Toure more than doubled his tally of shots from his previous four starts. Despite the above-mentioned run of agreeable home fixtures, potential investors will likely need to see more from the 10.7-priced midfielder with funds at a premium ahead of a tantalising double Gameweek 34 for Chelsea.

David Silva, meanwhile, failed to register a goal or an assist but proved as influential as ever in City’s build-up play. The Spanish created the third most chances (four) of any midfielder, with fellow wide man Jesus Navas ranked second with six.

Elsewhere in the City camp, manager Manuel Pellegrini enacted five changes from the XI that cruised past a ten-man Baggies side last time out, drafting in Edin Dzeko, Bacary Sagna, Martin Demichelis, Yaya Toure and Fernandinho for Pablo Zabaleta, Eliaquim Mangala, Frank Lampard, Fernando and Wilfried Bony.

Bony missed out against the Eagles by virtue of an ankle knock sustained in training, rendering him a doubt for the Red Devils clash this Sunday. In his absence, Edin Dzeko was unable to stake a serious claim for a run of starts alongside lead striker Aguero, failing to register a single attempt on goal and winning just two aerial duels throughout his 65-minute stint.

Nine points adrift of Chelsea at the summit following three losses in their last five matches, City’s title aspirations have been relegated to a pipe dream. That being said, their rivalry with United and the peripheral threat of slipping out of the Champions League berths should still motivate Pellegrini’s men in the concluding stages of this campaign, with those upcoming Etihad encounters boosting their chances of clinching second spot at least.

Murray takes flight as Eagles seal historic win

Glenn Murray bagged a goal and assist for the second week running as Palace ran out 2-1 victors over the champions. The ex-Brighton forward has been a revelation since being re-instated by Pardew, notching five goals and two assists in five appearances – including a 12-minute cameo against Arsenal in Gameweek 26. What’s more, netting against the Gunners and City has shown he’s no flat-track bully and is capable of causing problems against the league’s more robust rearguards.

Murray’s recent form is inevitably set to trigger a substantial increase on the 5.1-priced striker’s 0.1% ownership. Palace’s next trio of fixtures (sun, WBA, HUL) should afford the resurgent frontman with ample opportunity to further build upon his five-goal haul this term as the London club search for their fourth win on the trot. Subsequent match-ups against Chelsea, United and Liverpool betweeen Gameweek 35 and 37 present a sterner test of his credentials, however.

Jason Puncheon’s expertly placed free kick marked his first attacking returns since a hat-trick of assists against West Ham four matches ago. Having shed 52,000 owners in the intervening Gameweeks, Puncheon could well invite new investment in light of Palace’s enticing short-term schedule as Pardew’s side look to continue their momentum and clinch a place in the top half of the table.

      72 % don't have him as captain.
This could be my ticket to top 10k then.

Another Austin dilemma here...change for next 3 or just keep.

    a) Murray (sun, WBA, HUL)

    b) Berahino (LEI, cpl, LIV)

    or just keep Austin

    c) Austin (CHE & WHM) + Morgan for gw33 (SWA) (leicester defender btw)

Problem is; if I go Berahino it needs to be done this week, Murray can wait for another week I suppose.

    Repost:
I'm in a bit of bother wondering if the kind folk on here can help guide me... 🙂

I saved my wildcard as I like to do most seasons for a mega DGW which at the moment doesn't seem to be materialising. I am wondering if LFC beat Blackburn will they or could they join Arsenals DGW?
If not I'm thinking with the short game week coming and having Chelseas DGW immediately following should I just use it then.
I'm 6th in my mini league 90pts behind the leader and this decision could define my season.

Not panicking just yet , but not far from it either..............

If Liverpool beat Rovers they will have dgw and it's likely to be gw37, but no one knows for sure.
I'm afraid 90 points is too much, you can do

      a) play quite safe and try to climb in rankings with that wc
      b) try to catch that 90 point lead and make some ballsy captain choices for example - but you might find yourself going down instead of going up in rankings

Will you consider Remy now that Costa plans are scuppered?

What to do with Aguero? Should we continue to keep considering Sturridge potentially having a blank, Giroud blank, and Rooney's fixtures.

    4. Doolittle
      • 13 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

With the Costa injury, what is the best strategy with Austin? Do we take a punt on Remy now, look elsewhere (Gomis, Murray), or keep Austin through the blank?

    5. Doolittle
      • 13 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

Ahh, others were ahead of me with that one!

Another topic I think is interesting is whether we should keep faith with proven big-hitters when they're pout of form. Many ditched Sanchez recently, and he came back with a goal and assist. Do we do the same with Aguero, or do we cash in now?

Is Rooney worth the 10.7 now that Costa is injured or is he just another case of spending excess money in fpl with the logic that it will get more points than the cheaper alternatives like Murray etc.

A lot of sides will have Kane, Giroud and Remy. Not that many mids are putting their hand up apart from Silva, Sanchez/Ozil and Hazard. Many will have cash to burn so even Coleman and Baines could be affordable luxuries.

Question for Tom - Are you finding FPL harder to be interested in this year after your great year last season? I know Luke who top last year for quite a lot of the season isn't as interested as last year and hardly ever mentions it!

Looking pretty likely - it's very close with New Zealand just shading it, we need Guzan and Benteke to do poorly and Phillips and Caulker to prosper in the last game. With Mark in the team we'd already be tucking into the sandwiches and cake in the pavilion.

      Another one! Another one!
Who are the options from the not so fancy sides that are worth considering for the DGWs? everyone knows who they want from Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal.. but are there options worth considering at Leicester, Sunderland, Hull and how many from each team would you consider worth it? Paid dividends considering not so fancy options DGW 31 already so are there some gems we are missing from those teams? Schlupp seems to have lost his value and has been playing poorly so could be dropped(been a real liability), Manager change at Sunderland and a total lack of options at hull makes all of em look a bit meh tbh

      Budget defenders, who to pick?

I might be in a unique situation with 2 FTs and no rushing transfers. But with Naughton now out for the rest of the season I've found a use for my transfer (even though I was benching Naughton this week anyway..)

Those with Bellerin might also be considering shipping. But who to get?

Schlupp spring to mind for the DGW and his otherwise decent fixtures.
      Jenkinson/Reid/Collins?
Or the unlikely hero Ryan Taylor once we get past the Spurs-fixture?

Ideas needed in mini league chase. What are the best moves/tactics to try and chase down a 40 point deficit in these final few weeks?

Opponent is embedded in top 1,000 with a pretty template team.

I think quite a few will be looking at Liverpool cover from now until season end. How do you decide between

Henderson - un-glamorous but consistent and now with pens
Coutinho - erratic but great season and a constant threat
Sterling - up front one min rwb next but probably has the highest potential of the mids
Sturridge - bench warming and injuries plus mediocre form for huge outlay

Who are you three getting if anyone?

With Murray now back, fit and firing; and Costa plans scuppered, are some of us going to have record amounts of cash in the bank? I will be going for Austin to Murray, which will leave me with over 7m in the bank.
Along with that. City have won just one PL away game in 6, losing the last 3, and travel to OT next. This may scare a few in to getting rid of Aguero, meaning there will many managers with cash falling out their ears.

What to do with Krul + Foster ?

Would you play Krul until the end of the season ? His fixtures are good after the next two, but Newcastle can't keep a CS. Or sell Foster for Myhill (bad fixtures, but frees up some funds), Davis (Soton double-up), Schmeichel (few CS but DGW coming up) ?

Or do you think an other keeper could be a better option ?

Also do you like the idea of a Palace defender (Dann) for the next few games ?

My question is an old chestnut but is particularly pertinent for Tom and Mark who are having such contrasting fortunes from last year.

How much of FPL is down to luck? How important are piviotal weeks (e.g gameweek 8) I'm wondering if Tom had a week or weeks like that last year, and hasn't this year. Is that a key difference?

I decided against Bellerin > Naughton for some reason and played Hutton over Bellerin,
        Work that one out!

So what is everyone doing with Bellerin now that Debuchy is coming back and a blank looming?

The thing is though, I have Bellerin, Gru & Ozil + PVA so won't be able to field a XI in GW33 without getting rid of someone. Any advice?

          Ah.

You'll want to keep Ozil + Giroud.
So it's between loosing one of PVA or Bellerin.

I think Bellerin has earnt his spot in the starting 11 for now, and it's his to lose. Altho I do expect gametime for Debuchy, from the bench. Until the title is secured.
I fancy more clean sheets for Arsenal.

PVA - seems assured of game time. Less clean sheets expected than Arsenal.

          Coin toss I guess.

Bench. He's too good to worry about Debuchy.

Ha, I assume people don't genuinely think it was Aguero's goal last night, right?

    C'mon?? haha

I agree. I own Aguero and I have no idea why everyone is getting worked up over it. Clearly should be given to Yaya.

I don't think anyone is taking it seriously. Obviously an Aguero goal

Before the game, I even posted on here that I would take a goal off his backside and a pen - ironically he should have had both!

That Austin assist must really leave a bitter taste in that case 😉

No not Aguero's goal. There is though, too much inconsistency in the decision making.

Alright so with the Naughton news I should probably use my FT to dump the sorry shell of an imposer of a defender that is Clichy?

    Pants

    Clichy - Clyne - Ivanovic

    Hazard (C) - Mané - Fellaini - Silva

Aguero - Kane (VC) - Austin

    (Heaton - Boyd - Naughton - Haidära)

    1 FT 4.7m

What's the deal with Liverpool? When might they have a blank? I'm about to buy Sterling...

Wait until Friday to do your transfer. By then you will know if there will be a blank or not.

Hold off, potential blank in 33. IF they beat Blackburn tomorrow.
