Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen grab a goal apiece as Liverpool recover from back-to-back losses to sweep aside Newcastle at Anfield. The Magpies, meanwhile, turn in another disappointing display and have now tasted defeat in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

Sterling on target in routine Reds win

Raheem Sterling netted his first goal in six outings as Liverpool cruised past a toothless Newcastle side. The Reds starlet shifted the ball across right-back Ryan Taylor on the left flank and guided a curling finish beyond the reach of Tim Krul. Sterling’s return to form arrives at an opportune time for his 30% ownership as the Merseysiders prepare to embark upon their first double Gameweek (wba, hull) after they sit out Gameweek 33. Joe Allen was on hand to cement the three points in the 70th minute, notching his first goal in two seasons.

Jordan Henderson (6.7) picked up the assist for Sterling’s (8.5) opener and has now delivered attacking returns in five of his previous six starts, tallying four goals and two assists in the process. Considering he sits just three points (144) behind Sterling (147) in the midfield standings, boasts superior form and costs 1.8 less, the former Sunderland man is poised for a surge in ownership once the Reds resume league action.

Prior to their Arsenal capitulation, Liverpool were unbeaten in their previous six road matches, with five wins and one draw to their name. Furthermore, both the Tigers (eight) and the Baggies (ten) have shipped plenty of goals in the past three Gameweeks, encouraging Fantasy managers to pursue multiple routes into Liverpool’s squad for Gameweek 34.

Brendan Rodgers named two changes from the XI that triumphed over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, with Emre Can and Jordon Ibe replacing the injured Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge. Philippe Coutinho was tasked with leading the line, with Sterling lining up on the left wing as the Reds boss continued with the 4-3-3 formation rolled out at Blackburn last midweek.

Rodgers revealed after the Tyneside clash that Sturridge could be fit for the weekend, but Sakho is set to be sidelined for three to four weeks. Sturridge’s fitness is clearly a key talking point as the double approaches, yet unless he features heavily in the their FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa on Sunday, few managers will fancy investing in the 11.1-priced forward without the security of starts, with the midfield looking the safest option.

Last night’s clean sheet served a reminder of Liverpool’s rearguard as a source of coverage, with eight shut-outs in 12 outings illustrating their newfound resilience. Martin Skrtel’s return for Gameweek 34 either spells the end of Dejan Lovren’s run in the side or allows Rodgers to revert back to the 3-4-3 formation that served him well during their unbeaten streak.

Sissoko sees red as Magpies wilt

Newcastle plummeted to a fifth straight defeat as they struggled to carve out any meaningful chances at Anfield. The Toon have registered just one goal in four Gameweeks since Papiss Cisse picked up a lengthy ban for his involvement in a spitting altercation with Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, with the Senegalese frontman still set to serve three more matches on his suspension (TOT, SWA, lei).

The Magpies’ upcoming schedule offers hope that manager John Carver can arrest their woeful run of losses, however. Four of their remaining six matches are at St James’ Park (TOT, SWA, WBA, WHU), while the remaining two (lei, qpr) are trips to sides currently residing in the bottom three.

Moussa Sissoko was handed a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Lucas Leiva. Having received a red card earlier in the campaign, the France international will serve a two-match ban and sits out home ties against Spurs and Swansea. The fact that Sissoko is the only player to score in any of the last five Gameweeks emphasises Carver’s mounting problems for the run-in.

Bolasie or Fabregas for the next 2 (3 for Fab)

I've got 52 to make up, and haven't given give up hope yet

It depends on him as well

My ML leader's team is a mess He could take a few hits to sort it but he either sacrifices this GW to get some Pool players in or takes a couple of big hits, which will bring that gap down further

You'll never guess which team is second for all of; total shots, attempts from set plays, goals from set plays, big chances and minutes per chance.

OOP if we're playing 3 at the back.
              LB in a back 4.

Very attacking, lots of potential going forward.

He will be back next week. He is one of very few genuinely quality players we have and it won't take him long to hit form again, he always comes back quickly. Last season he missed less than 3 months with a ruptured kidney that apparently could have killed him, he is a fighter and he won't be missing any longer.

Robertson's a winger and Quinner's a defensive mid. Has he been played out wide recently ? Surely Bruce has to go a bit more attacking. Robertson is quality.

Quinn is a creative "number 10" but he can play in midfield or out wide. Robertson is left back who Brucey has tried to move into a wing back and it has worked quite well going forward but he hasn't grasped defensive positioning yet.
Robertson is in and out wide Brady so don't pick either. I would steer well clear of all Hull options for FPL, we are just too inconsistent and have poor fixtures.

I was looking at your players for my wc b tbh I can't fathom NDoye over Vardy, or any of your defenders over a Leicester one given their attacking stats

That only left a keeper and finding it hard to go for yours over Schmeichel, especially given there's no way of knowing before GW34 deadline whether McGregor will get back in

GOT lost on the bottom of the last page: PLEASE HELP:

    1). I have 2FTs for this GW

2). I still have my WC (plan to use it GW34)

3). This leaves me in a (half) decent position to "DOUBLE PUNT" (as I'll be Wildcarding next week anyway)

4). I am chasing the leader in my ML (who is the most sporny/jammy/lucky sod I know. He's had absolutely everything go his way this season) I need to make ground and finish strong.

So my question to you is this - If you had unlimited funds, which two GW33 punts do you all recommend???

Just wondering what people think or are doing this weekend with regards to fielding 11.

I can field 10 players using my FT , is it worth the -4 to get another in.. Thinking puncheon but already have Murray.
Spending 4pts will mean the player has to score 4 to break even, worth the risk?
    What is everyone else doing..

I am wildcarding next week(don't hate me) so doesn't matter who its just a 1 week punt..

    Opinions???

Skrtel, Moreno, Can, Johnson, Lovren, Toure - Can is obviously a midfielder in FPL terms

Rodgers finally realised without Suarez he can't attack like they used to so of course the defensive stats have increased, it's not a coincidence. The fact Liverpool are playing Can in defence illustrates my point perfectly. one of the best in the league 😆 good one

That's the opposite of what happened, Rodgers finally realised we had to attack again, Liverpool didn't even try attacking untill mid-December, we played multiple games with all the fast/creative players on the bench except Sterling

the only 2 100% starters in Pool defence are Can & Skrtel. with Sakho out it leaves the door open for GJ, Lovren and Toure, Moreno is not nailed, but a lot depends on if we line up with 3 or 4 at the back.

      1. Punty
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 10 months ago

Moreno has started 13 or 14 games in a row now with both 4 and 5 at the back, the only competition for him is Ibe/Johnson playing on the "wrong" side

        1. djenzio
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 10 months ago

yeah but he gets subbed off a lot.

I think he should be playing, but with 3 games in quick succession there will be rotation. GJ always plays on the 'wrong side'!

Getting Moreno is risky as he might not play both games and prob won't play 90mins of both games but he is cheaper than Skrtel and offers more attacking threat.

such a shame Can is not listed as a defender - would be fantasy gold

          1. Punty
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 10 months ago

Yeah agree maybe Can ahead of Moreno, just thinking that if they start playing back 4 now then Can might get rested for Lovren, Rodgers loves his personal signings

            1. Punty
              • 12 Years
              10 years, 10 months ago

And also agree he gets subbed a lot but that can be goodf or a defender, bigger chance of clean sheet and he usually get more than 60 minutes

            2. djenzio
              • 11 Years
              10 years, 10 months ago

Can is 100% first choice, been one of our best players this season. He doesn't seem to need a rest, never looks tired and plays a lot, plus he had his rest last weekend with suspension.

the Sakho injury and Skrtle suspension has caused a change in formation and given Lovren a few games, but Lovren is by no means a first team player,

TERRY - SKRTEL - CHESTER (PvA, Vlaaar)
