Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen grab a goal apiece as Liverpool recover from back-to-back losses to sweep aside Newcastle at Anfield. The Magpies, meanwhile, turn in another disappointing display and have now tasted defeat in six of the last seven Gameweeks.

Sterling on target in routine Reds win

Raheem Sterling netted his first goal in six outings as Liverpool cruised past a toothless Newcastle side. The Reds starlet shifted the ball across right-back Ryan Taylor on the left flank and guided a curling finish beyond the reach of Tim Krul. Sterling’s return to form arrives at an opportune time for his 30% ownership as the Merseysiders prepare to embark upon their first double Gameweek (wba, hull) after they sit out Gameweek 33. Joe Allen was on hand to cement the three points in the 70th minute, notching his first goal in two seasons.

Jordan Henderson (6.7) picked up the assist for Sterling’s (8.5) opener and has now delivered attacking returns in five of his previous six starts, tallying four goals and two assists in the process. Considering he sits just three points (144) behind Sterling (147) in the midfield standings, boasts superior form and costs 1.8 less, the former Sunderland man is poised for a surge in ownership once the Reds resume league action.

Prior to their Arsenal capitulation, Liverpool were unbeaten in their previous six road matches, with five wins and one draw to their name. Furthermore, both the Tigers (eight) and the Baggies (ten) have shipped plenty of goals in the past three Gameweeks, encouraging Fantasy managers to pursue multiple routes into Liverpool’s squad for Gameweek 34.

Brendan Rodgers named two changes from the XI that triumphed over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, with Emre Can and Jordon Ibe replacing the injured Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge. Philippe Coutinho was tasked with leading the line, with Sterling lining up on the left wing as the Reds boss continued with the 4-3-3 formation rolled out at Blackburn last midweek.

Rodgers revealed after the Tyneside clash that Sturridge could be fit for the weekend, but Sakho is set to be sidelined for three to four weeks. Sturridge’s fitness is clearly a key talking point as the double approaches, yet unless he features heavily in the their FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa on Sunday, few managers will fancy investing in the 11.1-priced forward without the security of starts, with the midfield looking the safest option.

Last night’s clean sheet served a reminder of Liverpool’s rearguard as a source of coverage, with eight shut-outs in 12 outings illustrating their newfound resilience. Martin Skrtel’s return for Gameweek 34 either spells the end of Dejan Lovren’s run in the side or allows Rodgers to revert back to the 3-4-3 formation that served him well during their unbeaten streak.

Sissoko sees red as Magpies wilt

Newcastle plummeted to a fifth straight defeat as they struggled to carve out any meaningful chances at Anfield. The Toon have registered just one goal in four Gameweeks since Papiss Cisse picked up a lengthy ban for his involvement in a spitting altercation with Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, with the Senegalese frontman still set to serve three more matches on his suspension (TOT, SWA, lei).

The Magpies’ upcoming schedule offers hope that manager John Carver can arrest their woeful run of losses, however. Four of their remaining six matches are at St James’ Park (TOT, SWA, WBA, WHU), while the remaining two (lei, qpr) are trips to sides currently residing in the bottom three.

Moussa Sissoko was handed a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Lucas Leiva. Having received a red card earlier in the campaign, the France international will serve a two-match ban and sits out home ties against Spurs and Swansea. The fact that Sissoko is the only player to score in any of the last five Gameweeks emphasises Carver’s mounting problems for the run-in.

    Kasper
    Ivan // Clyne // Dawson // Cahill // Wolls
    Haz // Silva // Eriksen
    Kun // Kane

    Panti* -- Giroud* -- Cout* -- Phillips*

So could get the above with Sanchez to Silva and Naughton to Cahill, seem sensible?
    Eriksen > Hendo next week.

    Schmeichel... (Panti)
    Ivan, Rose, Toby... (Koscielny, Baird)
    Hazard, Eriksen, Silva, Siggy... (Cork)
    Aguero(C), Kane, Remy

Is anything worth a hit here? It would kind of only be a -2, as my FT was spent on bringing in a playing GK this week. Or should I just leave as is? Looks like a -8 might happen next week as I have zero Pool... 3.7 itb.

They've done this a few times.

I usually bet 50 quid on over 0.5 goals and then back the 0-0 draw elsewhere.

Then you pretty much have a free 50 quid bet to spend in-game

      1. Count of Monte Hristo
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 10 months ago

So I should put £50 on over 0.5 goals 'pre-match' and then once the game kicks off put a fiver on 0-0?

£50 pre game on over 0.5 goals which will return around £53

Then go on another betting site and bet on 0-0 to cover your bet. It will probably cost around 5 quid to get 50 back so you might lose a couple of quid

But then you have 50 quid in-play bet free on Bet365 and if it doesn't win your bet is returned

            • 12 Years

The Bet365 state you need to place a pre-match bet then an in-play bet once the game kicks off.

Am I not aswell placing the over 0.5 then the 0-0 with 365?

You can do what you like I'm just saying this is how I do it.

It basically means you get a free in-play bet on something with big odds if you'd like. Doesn't guarantee a win though

I've never taken advantage of this kind of offer before so i'm following your lead. I just meant based on the text above from 365 you need to place 2 bets (1 pre-match + 1 in-play)

Two questions regarding my DGW team.. No WC so I must plan transfers already..

    Krul
    Ivanovic Schlupp Skrtel
    Hazard Fabregas Sterling Henderson Silva
    Aguero Vardy

    Panti Kane Clyne Alderweireld

    Would you prefer:

    A) Mignolet and Clyne
    B) Krul and Skrtel

I was planning to get Skrtel but the more I think about it I think Panti -> Mignolet makes more sense and play one of the Southampton-defenders in the dgw?

Is anyone doubling on Chelsea defence for the double? They have attacking potential, a strong run of home games after it and could easily shut down Arsenal as they look to wrap things up. It seems odd not to have 3 Chelsea players for a double, but with Remy's fitness always flaky Fabregas seems like the only real other outfield option.

I am the same with you mate. I don't think doubling defence is a great idea, it's too vulnerable to the points they could achieve. Compared to midfielders and Strikers. I am chopping and changing between Remy and Fabregas but it depends who I want to take out in attack for Remy.

what I'm saying is that b and c will give you the chance to get the most points (goals, assists, clean sheet) whereas keeper the points potential is abit more limited

I don't think the keeper options are there this week but going without one is not ideal. How did you let that happen?
Check the stats, Silva is simply on another planet.
I would do just b probably, after that, look for a keeper.

Only decent keeper I can see this week might be Howard

Food transfers. Consider Courtois if you aren't getting a third Chelsea player. Will give you a keeper this week and another player for the double.

A and B, pretty obvious. Lescott and Terry are both capable of clean sheets this week and Terry has an outside chance of a goal. Playing Terry wouldn't worry me at all, Lescott is more iffy because of the way Palace are playing but Pulis will be working on that all week.

What kind of game do you think Chelsea-United will be when a draw would be adequate for both teams? I expect it to be tight, even though Chelsea-United games historically tend to have goals in them. But at this stage of the season? 0-0, 1-0, 0-1, 1-1 the most likely outcomes I think.

The other 2 transfers give you guaranteed extra points. Howard a good shout for the GK maybe?

          Thanks.

I think I am pretty good on strategy. Figuring out when to lose high ownership players, planning team changes in advance, reading trends, stuff like that.

Unfortunately for me I am not so good on tactics - I tend to be slow to respond to players hitting form and quite poor on captain selection.

I think a good FPL manager needs both. If I could find a very good "reactive" manager and we could team up we might have something. 😉

Aye, maybe. At least with a Chelsea defender you have safety in numbers...If they don't keep a CS then it will be the same for the vast majority of the game.

Paddy Power have a Chelsea clean sheet at 6/4. In other words a 40% chance according to them.

In addition, Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (where they have conceded 7 PL goals all season and only once more than one in a game) is a quite different challenge than City at Old Trafford.

People seem to think that Chelsea's defensive strength has weakened but that is coloured by things like Adam scoring a wonder goal in a game where Stoke had 2 shots on target in the whole game.

What's wrong with what Sterling did? It's legal. We have a problem in England where we don't let young players play and just slay them at every given opportunity. It happened with Wilshere too. Media ruin potential.

Yeah but it is quite funny!

I don't buy the role model crap and the football media is there to hype and destroy player reputations, it's all part of the football narrative machine and Sterling should know better given the negative publicity already surrounding him. Wilshere is just hugely overrated anyway and needs to work out where he wants to play.

leicester can't defend and they have players returning from injury which could see him dropped

doubt schlupp would be dropped but can't see him doing anything in DGW.

not sure this speculation is helpful, of course anyone could be dropped, but Schlupp has played throughout their mini-rival, and his versatility is another big plus for him keeping a spot in the XI
