Chelsea take another step towards clinching the title with a 3-1 victory over Leicester at the King Power. Marc Albrighton opens the scoring for the hosts before a second-half comeback ensures the Blues can win the league by beating Palace at the Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Blues rebuff resilient Foxes en route to title

Chelsea placed one hand firmly on the Premier League crown following a 3-1 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Although the Foxes were able to breach the Blues’ defence for the first time in four fixtures and emerge in the second half with a 1-0 lead, Jose Mourinho’s men rallied after the break and scored through Dider Drogba, John Terry and Ramires.

Mourinho named two changes from the XI that secured a 0-0 draw against Arsenal on the weekend, with Oscar – who suffered a nasty head collision at the Emirates – making way to facilitate Drogba’s return and Petr Cech coming in for Thibaut Courtois (the Belgian shot-stopper was not “100% fit”, according to Mourinho after the match).

Drogba popped up with a crucial equaliser three minutes into the second half and with doubts still surrounding the fitness of both Diego Costa and Loic Remy, the Ivorian frontman may well be in pole position to continue up top for Chelsea’s home clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Fabregas served up his 18th assist of the campaign and earned a solitary bonus point in the process, taking his points haul to eight for the Gameweek.

Chelsea’s high-priced defenders, John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic, delivered strong points returns despite the absence of a clean sheet, with the former notching a goal and the latter bagging an assist. A further two bonus points for Terry ensured that he ended Gameweek 34 as the third highest-scoring player in any team (behind Hull City’s Steve Harper and Michael Dawson), validating those Fantasy managers that plumped for the club captain ahead of the marauding Ivanovic. The lesser-owned Gary Cahill also produced rare attacking returns, having been awarded the assist for Terry’s scrappy goal.

Frustratingly, Eden Hazard drew blanks in consecutive ties for the first time since Gameweek 21, disappointing the 59% voters who opted for the winger in our Captain Poll. Hazard was uncharacteristically subdued at the King Power Stadium, crafting just two chances for his team-mates and failing to fire a single attempt over his 87 minutes. Nonetheless, few will fancy shipping out the PFA Player of the Year in light of the Blues’ schedule.

Chelsea now embark on a largely favourable quartet of fixtures that includes three home ties (CRY, LIV, SUN) and a trip to West Bromwich Albion in Gameweek 37. A victory at the Bridge would seal the title for Chelsea, sparking concerns whether the squad will approach their remaining matches with the same intensity and desire. Moreover, there’s a fear that Mourinho may well decide to freshen up his XI once the silverware has been clinched.

Albrighton nets consolation goal in valiant defeat

Marc Albrighton netted his first league goal in three seasons as Leicester’s four-match winning run came crashing to an end. The 4.2-priced midfielder ultimately proved an excellent differential punt for the double – owned by less than 2% of FPL managers, his tally of 13 points was more than any team-mate.

Jamie Vardy grabbed the assist for Albrighton’s goal, complementing his strike against the Clarets last weekend. The English striker has now recorded three goals and assists in his last six starts, only failing to deliver attacking returns during Swansea City’s visit.

Pearson named an unchanged side from that which recorded a 1-0 win over Burnley last time out, with David Nugent and Jeffrey Schlupp both still sidelined and now doubtful for a home clash against Newcastle United this Saturday. Robert Huth (calf) and Andy King (hamstring) were both subbed off early in the first half with knocks and are also in a race to be fit for the Magpies tie.

In spite of last night’s result, Leicester boast the form and fixtures (NEW, SOU, sun, QPR) that should encourage backers to retain their assets until the conclusion of the season. Perching just one point shy of the relegation berths, the East Midlands club will doubtless be fighting tooth and nail to stay in the league – improving their chances of a strong Fantasy output.

I would perhaps save this week and keep Sterling for QPR at home. Sterling to Ramsey next week, hold Silva for QPR at home, then the following week bring Ozil in for Silva. That will help you get 3 Arsenal players for DGW and lets you keep Sterling and Silva for good fixtures.

GW34 feels slightly underwhelming even though managed to get 90 points to move into top 5k for the first time.

The plan was to do Vardy to Giroud after GW34 but having second thoughts now, and might go Kane to Giroud instead.

    Vardy (NEW, SOU, sun, QPR)
    Kane (MANC, sto, HULL, eve)

Vardy has the better fixtures and form it seems. Any thoughts?

    team at the moment is:
    mignolet myhill
    terry schlupp fonte bruce hutton
    silva sterling henderson hazard sanchez
    aguero kane vardy
    0.6 itb
    1FT

I will be dropping sterling for a cheap MF so to remove the benching headache
then it's either vardy or kane out for giroud. Willing to go -4 because of who i'm playing in my h2h league (not as worried about overall rank any more)

but then schlupp and hutton are injured and probably should be looking at them

    Ospina
    Skrtel - Moreno - Morgan
    Hazard (c) - Fabregas - Coutinho - Silva
    Aguero - Kane - Benteke

Krul - Clyne - van Aanholt - Moses

Everton have found some form and looking relatively solid.
Not for me, think there are better options this week.

Thanks - I'm surprised I'm still in contention for top 10k; I had no idea what I was doing when I picked my initial 15 and had to play my wildcard in GW2 to rectify my heinous errors, like having a couple of defensive mids.......

Morning all.. Bit of a problem as I have 0 in the bank..
Would love some thoughts on what to do here...

    Schmeichael
    Bellerin // Ivanovic // Toby

    Kane // Aguero (vc)

Pants // Wollsch // Dawson (wba) // Remy

Hmm tricky one.You would need to take a hit obviously.
Punch to a cheapie (Philips perhaps, great fixurew for last 2) and then Remy to Giroud for -4.

Otherwise you could just. your team is fine for this week.

    Schmeichel
    Terry/Ivan/Skrtel
    Sanchez/Hazard/Sterling/Coutinho
    Aguero/Kane/Vardy

    (Albrighton, Toby, Duff)

What should I do with my FT:
    a) Countinho --> Rambo
    b) Save
    c) something else?

  27. Le Limpar

I was dreading this DGW just gone as I was so ill prepared for it. I ended up taking a frustrated, dice-roll of a -16pt hit in the end. Here's how it went:

    OUT
    Silva 1pt
    Eriksen 2pts
    Clyne 1pt
    Zouma 1pt
    Murray 1pt

    Total = 6pts

    IN
    Sterling(c) 10pts
    Coutinho 3pts
    Cahill 11pts
    Terry 16pts
    N'Doye 15pts

    Total = 55pts

    -16 for the hit

    Net gain of 39 pts

Dropped from 755 OR to just outside 1k but would have dropped a lot further if I'd have done nothing.

And oddly the side is pretty well set up for this week and I think I can save a FT.

Moral of story: hits pay guys, get taking hits.

(If you haven't had the foresight to plan properly first).

      Mine was

      Out:
      Pva 2
      Ozil 3
      Hamer 0
      Erikesen 2
      Rose 0
      Remy 0

      Total: 7

      Terry 16
      Skrtel 11
      Smichel 11
      Vardy 12
      Hendo 5
      Sterling 5

      total 60

      60 -5 - 16

      = 39 gained

        Hi.

This seems to be an epidemic.

You also would have played a team that roughly scored ~46.

        92 - 16 = 76 - 46 = 30.

        Net = 30.

i.e. Davis would have played instead of Hamer. You have to count the transfer as Davis versus Schmeichel

    6. Mo Mané Mo Problems
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

Maybe I did my maths wrong.

But your team would have been something like:
Davis, Clyne, Alder, Zouma (subbed in) Camb, Haz (C), Silva, Ramsey, Murray, Gru, Kun.
      Bench: Rose, Schlupp, Eriksen

I make that team: 1+1+1+1+5+5x2+1+2+1+2+6 = 31 with no transfers
      You got 77 -16 = 61.

So you have a net gain of 30.

I'd be too scared to go without Sanchez for the DGW, and he's still the most threatening. Ozil and Ramsey is close, Ozil would be ahead but he can't finish. I'm undecided on those 2.
