Game week 35’s early opener pits a Leicester City side bristling with confidence against a floundering Newcastle United outfit. Despite falling to a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea last time out, the Foxes have posted four wins in their last five. The Magpies, meanwhile, strive to arrest a seven-match losing streak that stretches back to mid-February.

Nigel Pearson’s men have discovered their scoring touch of late, netting the joint-highest number of goals (12) in the last six Gameweeks. Jamie Vardy’s return to form has been instrumental, with the pacy striker notching three goals and as many assists in his previous six starts. Leicester’s rearguard has been much improved, too, and, having secured back-to-back clean sheets prior to the Chelsea defeat, will fancy their chances of another shut-out given that Newcastle have recorded just five goals in nine Gameweeks. Pearson makes three changes to his teamsheet today as Jeffrey Schlupp is fit to return at wing-back. Riyad Mahrez is also recalled, while Matt James comes in for the injured Andy King.

Newcastle will look to Ayoze Perez to provide a much-needed spark up front, with Siem De Jong still not fit enough to start and Papiss Cisse serving the last match of his ban in this encounter. Perez posed a significant threat when he tallied his sixth goal of the season during the Toon’s 3-2 defeat to Swansea City – no single Gameweek forward produced more attempts inside the box than the Spaniard’s four last time out. Perez starts along with Paul Dummett who returns to the defence following injury. Moussa Sissoko is also recalled having served out a three-match ban. Vurnon Anita and Remy Cabella drop to the bench.

Any chance we can stop the whole anti-Newcastle brigade that has seemingly formed on here?

You're all football fans, not a single one of you would want your football club run in the way ours is (unless you're a Blackpool/Portsmouth etc. fan) Can you not show a bit of sympathy for the thousands of fans who go every week and all the others who don't rather than claiming we're all deluded and deserve to suffer because we want/expect our club to perform well (and note we don't all think we should win the league!)

Ashley tried to sell, he couldn't. So as the brilliant businessman he is, he's been selling assets at a profit, reducing wage costs and trying to make some of his money back. Whilst that is obviously his call, it's not the way anyone wants their club run particularly whilst most PL sides now have big-spending owners who have invested considerable funds into their club.

Yes, most fans wanted rid of Pardew. We'd performed badly for an extended period of time, he never really endeared himself to the fans with his conduct even in his successful times, and the manager is something that can be changed. Every single Newcastle fan knows that Ashley was the biggest issue but we knew he wasn't budging until he wanted to. And whilst I wish Pardew success and thank him for the good times, he was never a good fit for our club, he was not involved in transfers and didn't want half the few players he was bought.

So seriously people, can we give up the constant talk about how Newcastle fans are horrible and we deserve to go down, we just care about our club like everyone else.

Hope you don't think my post was in any way suggesting any of this. All I meant was that it's pretty clear the issue at Newcastle was very little to do with the manager and in fact they've gotten worse under Carver. I can understand Pardew wasn't loved by many.

      1. CABAYE4
        • 14 Years

        No offence taking Somalion.

The manager was the only real target for fan hate, but he was put in an awful position.

Okay, good because that certainly wasn't my intention! Have always quite liked Newcastle myself, so would like to see the club get it together again. Some serious work must be done to do that, of course.

Pardew was doing poorly, and they were justified in wanting him out, but that was with the presumption they'd cfuslly bring in a 'manager'.

Think "we are all football fans" sums it up. Kinda don't choose a team, but its where you are born, friends, etc...

But pending on how our team is doing, i think since its such a hufe group of people, there isnt really a difference how different fans reacts. just the situation thats different

The problem is the stereotype of Newcastle supporters is that they are constantly whinging about something, be it the owner or the manager. Things go wrong and whilst you still have great support numbers-wise, the focus is on the vocal minority who do you no favours with getting sympathy from other supporters.

The fact is the team are currently playing like a pub team with no sort of tactics or will to fight. They could go down now.
