We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.â€

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.â€

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

QPR have paid a heavy price for trusting Harry Redknapp like Portsmouth did, noticed him recently fluttering his eyelashes at Bournemouth. Really hope they don't touch him with a barge pole.

QPR was always unsustainable, that's why the previous owners with Fernandez never put in any money.

i like harry tbh. Twice guided spurs to top 4. Won the fa cup with pompey and finished 8th. Their downfall wasnt exactly his fault

In just two years at Fratton Park, ‘Arry signed 41 players for £7.65 million and sold 41 players for £5.4 million.

The signings probably had higher wages

They have Eddie Howe who has brought them up two divisions.

      They don't need Harry.

Worth hits to get same DGW-players as rival when I have a 22 point lead? I have Panti, Sanchez and Ramsey, he has Ozil, Giroud and Gomez.. I can get Giroud, Gomez and PvA for -8 then Ozil will be his only differential.. safer?

I like Caz and it's a bit of a lottery with the Arsenal mids but I'd probably have Ozil and Ramsey ahead of him. Maybe we'll find out a bit more tomorrow.

Its an interesting option I gave the two options to a mate of mine who has a HoF level history and he said Cesc to Arsenal mid too. Interesting.

I thought vs Hull that Cazorla was proper outstanding. But agreed bit of a lotto.

He thought Mikel made the foul so showed the red but his assistants told him it was Cesc so he decided to give a yellow for it, made zero sense

Ref got out red and then a yellow for mikel.

And eventually got it half right and gave a yellow to fabregas

          Ah, he's been terrible.

I reckon part of it is trying to help Johnson find a free club to feck off to.

Yes. He has improved out of all recognition. And his manager is someone who fell out with Daniel Agger ...

Well I genuinely believed him to have been very poor for about 2-3 weeks before being dropped. I had hoped BR hadn't noticed, I do know that he fell out with Agger stupidly but I have repeatedly thought Moreno defensively wobbly. Attack wise, he's been sound, especially if utilized as a wing back. But apparently they've been changing that.

From what I have seen Johnson has been awful, he's not a left back and should have been dropped. I think there must be something going on behind the scenes.

There's lots going on behind the scenes, I agree.

But Moreno's performances begin to decline over the last few weeks, gave him a chance to bench him for GJ.

I hope so. But Rodgers is a stubborn git. So don't get your hopes up 🙂

Look through the stats if you want

              http://www.squawka.com/players/alberto-moreno/stats#performance-score#liverpool-(current)#english-barclays-premier-league#8#season-2014/2015#126#all-matches#1-31#cumulative

You can mess around a lot on this, but what you'll see is the three previous games before his benching he was declining each time. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for Johnson to be gone from Liverpool as I think he is a lazy git, and he has been crap. But I understood them deciding to try to go without Moreno. Why they have persisted without Moreno, well that's a different debate.

Yeah interesting. This is the second time this season I have been burned by getting Moreno, fourth time getting in Liverpool players. Rodgers tactics are just so unpredictable.

It is a right pain. 🙂 For what it's worth, I was burned badly as well as I got him in thinking there was no chance in hell GJ would ever play for Pool again.

Exactly. Johnson is out of contract in a month but is playing over a defender who's much better and has a 5 year contract with the club.

If not though, then I would say he would be fine for both games double gameweek as he was due back training today I think
