We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.â€

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.â€

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

Almost have to hope Ramsey won't play tomorrow, PvA is waiting to come in with 7 points. Give that man a rest so he is fully fit for the DGW!

Well that would change everything... 😀

Ramsey is fully capable of scoring more than 7 points of course, but right now I'd probably take those guaranteed points.

        Waiting for a 10min cameo...

I have no idea what to do. Doesn't seem the time to bank a FT.

3 Arsenal and PVA already. Sort of assumed I would ditch Kane for Defoe, but I'm not sure it's a great call actually.

I suppose everyone's final week punt will be Benteke if they don't own already. Mata seems tempting for 38 only.

As Rich Sea suggested Get CCleaner, clear out your temp files (1st tab) and then sort out the registry (2nd tab). If you've got McAfee or Norton, I'd ditch for AVG free. Also download Malware bytes and run it in case you have some nasties on there hogging resources.

If you've got anything less than Core i3 then you're.coming to end of life anyways.if Core i3 then you should be able to upgrade that RAM (DDR3), for much cheaper than buying a new one.

    So with

    Ivan // Skrtel // Dawson // Wolls // Naughton

My defence is a bit of a shambles. With this in mind would you rather

    A) Skrtel > Kos
    B) Wolls > Bellerin

If A I would have to play Dawson with Che and Ars coming up so leaning towards B. Bell guaranteed to start one of the 2 dgw matches?

My team for the dgw would be:

    Myhill
    Koscielny Terry PVA
    Hazard Silva Sanchez Coutinho
    Kane Giroud Aguero

Bench: K.Davis - Schlupp Cambiasso Dawson

Seems good or would you take a hit for Myhill --> Schmeichel? Sunderland looks awful up front and they also play QPR in gw 38, while Myhill has Chelsea + Arsenal in gw 37+38.

Sounds good. Skrtel, Terry and Ivan did well in DGW. So did Morgan. No reason why Kosc. shouldn't.

I now want Ospina rested tomorrow. Serves a double purpose: (a) brings Kasper off my bench, and (b) pretty much guarantees he plays twice in DGW. I suspect Szczesny may get a game before the Cup Final.

Don't tell me about Chelsea players. I have seen him play live a number of times, have you?

He's a LB, that's where he has always played for Holland U-19 and U-21, that's where he played on loan at Reading and that's where he has mostly played for Chelsea U-19 and U-21.

In the youth he has also played CB on occasion but at 5' 10" he won't play CB at senior level. He's clearly not tall enough as you would know if you had ever seen him play. In the first team he has mostly played CM but that's simply because Luis has needed games and has been used in the Cups and CL.

If he starts next week it will be at LB. If he comes off the bench it could be CM. It won't be CB.

Lol. Answer to your first question you little know it all - Yes, I have. I remember him making numerous appearances in midfield too. 🙂 I agree with your opinion that he won't play CB however, with JT likely to keep LCB place.

Pretty hilarious how after all that effort, you don't even know where he plays. 😆 He isn't a LB - he will play in midfield on Monday. Bookmark it.

You are a United fan, right?

I wouldn't dream of thinking I knew more about United youth players than you. That would be stupid.

I am a Chelsea member. I have been to around 25 games this season including pre-season, youth, domestic cups, CL and PL. I have supported Chelsea for 50 years since I went to my first game back in the 60s and I follow the club closely. Why you would imagine you know better about Chelsea youth players than I do bewilders me.

Incidentally what I wrote took no effort beyond typing it. I didn't need to look up what I already knew.

One of the worst things about sites like this is people insisting their opinion is equal when they have little clue what they are talking about.

                End of rant.

Not your first rant either. 😉

On your opinion that I can't possibly know about Chelsea youth players as I'm a United fan. I've seen a huge number of youth games in their last 2 or 3 Youth Cup wins, and could name the entire U21 & U18 teams, so give it a rest know-it-all. 🙂

You think he'll play LB, I think he'll play in midfield. Keep calm and bookmark it? 😀

I'm right about this. He's not a CB/CM. He's a LB that can also play DM. But if you prefer your misguided opinion you are welcome to it.

You might be thinking of Kalas...he played CB v Liverpool last season. Ake is definitely not a CB.

              • 12 Years

His primary position is in midfield, and I'm not confusing him with Tomas Kalas lol. Kalas made one first team start last season at Anfield. Ake has made a number of first team appearances, even when Rafa was in charge...

And yes, he definitely won't play CB due to height, the fact that he is a good ball player, but most importantly - Terry is likely to keep LCB anyway.

As I already said, RuthNZ thinks he will play LB. I think he will play in midfield. We'll find out on Monday night won't we. 🙂

I've seen Ake play probably 15-20 times all in all - Half of those first team appearances, the rest youth/U21. Not once do I ever recall him playing for the first team in any position other than midfield....

Midfield is his best position - His preferred position - Where he has made all of his first team appearances since Benitez was in charge (loan apps at Reading mean next to nothing, Ruth. They could've had an injury to their regular LB) And midfield is where Mourinho sees him playing long term.

He will come through, as will Brown (in particular) and Solanke in time. Abramovic wants players to come through the academy after winning 4 out of the last 6 Youth Cups and Mourinho has been slowly putting more emphasis on it this season, with a good number of U21 players making first team appearances or being named in a first team squad.

The difference with Loftus Cheek is that Cesc (and Ramires) are playing in his position....neither of those two sit comfortably there...or let's say both could be better used further up the pitch.

Ozil, but i take it you cant afford him, so from the options, koscielny.
