0-0 up to 60 mins when Panti and PVA have a clash of heads and have to off resulting in Arsenal battering them 5-0 in the last half hour; Giroud assisted by Caz for all of them 😀

Something like a 2-2 would be good. I really need some Sunderland attacking points from Larsson and/or Wickham. Wouldn't mind seeing Sanchez and Giroud score for Arsenal. Preferably nothing for Cazorla/Ramsey.

Well, at least if you have players in the game you can hope. 😕

      Lukaku

    5. Jay_
      11 years, 2 months ago

I've got Benteke but if I could swap I would, reason being Lukaku has good stats and can see it being a high scoring open game, Benteke could be rested and I expect another workmanlike strong chasing the ball down organised team performance from Burnley to go down with their head held high knowing at least they tried 100 % effort as they have all season long.

    6. Hanked
      • 14 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

Easily Benteke for me. I don't see why he would be rested.

    7. Ruth_NZ
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

      I can't see Benteke rested after a 1-6 defeat.

What I can see is Villa concentrating on defensive shape after an abysmal performance last weekend.

As a result I preferred Lukaku (could have had either). Spurs' defence is probably less resilient than Burnley's right now. And Burnley are likely to be trying harder.

Incidentally, I don't think Benteke has ever been a no-brainer. Bringing him in for DGW 31 was a very astute move by those that did it but relied quite heavily on the assumption that Sherwood would have a similar effect on Benteke to what he did with Adebayor last season.

Of course we are just speculating based on our fpl teams and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Ozil was rested but I just don't see it. Not sure why you would drop your most creative player if you're lacking in creativity. Seems the optimal player to have in a home game against a Sunderland side that will sit deep.

Incorrect, at that time Barca wasn't in picture at all. Suarez wanted to come to arsenal and put in transfer request, had we put the bid at 55m, he would have come to us.

I recall him always speaking very generally about just moving to a club with Champions League and he asked Liverpool to honor his request to leave, I don't recall it ever being specifically him pushing for an Arsenal move though.

Arsenal was playing for CL, he didn't specify us but was happy with the move. When he stayed, 6 or 7 months down the line Barca openly made a bid and of course he jumped on it, rightly so,

Interestingly I've seen it suggested that what Ben Smith said may be among the first real information leaked by people at the club but higher up (not by Rodgers, his cronies or journo pals) which will turn public opinion against him so that when FSG act there'll be no backlash as Rodgers faults will be aired and he'll no longer have 'golden-boy' status in the English media.

    Given a vacation mid-season

I agree everything you say though, sell him to City for say 35m and hopefully this time wise transfers to use to funds wisely, because last year that 75m was spent badly, ended up in disaster.

Last season's fund were pivotal but were wasted. Similar to the Torres fund. Rather than spending for spending's sake we should of kept the money until the right targets were identified. Sterling at City would benefit all parties. He might turn into another Sinclair though.

I think he would too which is probably justice and lesson for a 20 years old spoilt brat.

            It's hard attracting talents with:

            -No UCL
            -Rodgers manager
            -Low wage bill
-Moneyball approach signing "youth" over "ready-made"

I'm sure players like Lazazette could come if Liverpool made him feel very important.

Wage bill is actually very high, it needs to be trimmed, though perhaps it can only really support a few stars (not Galactico wages for everyone). Not much chance of Lacazette now though. 🙁

Never watched Lacazette but I have watched the Belgian geezer, can't remember his name.

His not a goal scorer, ie don't expect 15 goals, but type of player would be good with Studge if he keeps fit

Unfortunately I can't see Sturridge staying fit enough to ut a 'foil' type of player in place 🙁 What we need is experience to complement Sturridge along with Origi and perhaps Sinclair (who should get his chance, though don't expect it with Rodgers if hes still there) Sturridge may be unfit a bit and youngsters are inconsistent so that would be an important target in that scenario.

The vacation was given to him after he was run into the ground by Rodgers. You can't play a 20 year old that often without it having a detrimental effect on his playing. Plus it's not like Liverpool were doing Sterling a favour by giving him a chance, he was good enough to be given one. He was also poached off QPR by Liverpool so he's hardly a youth product with any loyalty to the club.

The whole situation with Sterling is a bit of a joke, but it's roots are basically in the fact that Liverpool's squad isn't quite good enough to challenge for Top 4 and regular Champions League football. If it was and Sterling was confident he'd win stuff soon he would have signed the contract. Don't think there's much point hating on Sterling - it's the club with the problem at the moment.

Haha I know what you mean, but all players miss sitters. He's 20 years old and has got so much time to improve. I hesitate to use the example but look what happened to Ronaldo. Things can change and when someone has so much obvious potential ( not to mention interest from other clubs) he's got every right to want to reach the highest level he can.

I believe that to be the case, it was the Brodge that mentioned the money, I think like a lot of the players he isn't happy where the club is going under Rodgers, I think the trophy part (taken literally) is a bit early though, I think he jsut wants the intent for the club to do well, not unfair considering the squad should have easily gotten top four at a canter, every other team up there bar Chelsea did their utmost to throw their seasons into the toilet, its really Rodgers which is the problem.

      1. He's on £35k. The guy was born in Jamaica, raised in London and has got mixed up in the semi-religious cult called Liverpool FC where he is required to be eternally grateful to play for the "wonderful, wonderful club" with its "wonderful, wonderful fans". If he isn't eternally grateful he gets turned on in the same way that any cult member wanting out is treated. Bullying is a correct word for that. Is it any surprise he wants to escape?
      2. Suarez got defended after biting opponents and using racial abuse to Patrick Evra - remember the T-shirts? Cult members always get defended whilst they are "in".
      3. He was given an opportunity to play 1st team football when young because (a) he's good enough, and (b) FSG's business model requires young players to be developed and sold on at a profit. It was not done out of generosity to Sterling.
      4. How many children he has and when he had them is no concern of yours and has no place in this discussion. Raising it is an example of the bullying that comes from the cult when someone turns apostate.
      5. Whether you like it or not, a human being has a right to his own words and thoughts rather than having interviews pre-scripted by others and being forced to repeat the party line. Look at the interviews given by players when they sign for Liverpool. They all say the same things, more or less, and that's no accident.

Calling the club a cult is insulting to it and the fans mate, please don't go there. Though I'll agree the club handled the racial abuse incident poorly.

Bullying is plastic Chelsea fans making fun of Gerrard's slip not booing a player who rejects them. That's called being bitter.

haha I'm not sure there's a set of fans in the country (apart from Liverpool's) that haven't made fun of Gerrard's slip. I really don't think the Chelsea fans give two sh*ts about whether or not Gerrard joined them. Yes it would have been great for them but they've done pretty well since then. The booing was obviously playful because everyone knows it was a transfer that almost happened not because they're so sad about being rejected by him.

What do Chelsea fans have to be bitter about?

Mostly we just find the Liverpool mythology a cross between the laughable and the ludicrous. 🙂

"No class". I wondered when that standard defence would come out.

Was what your chairman said after Heysel classy? Was the way you handled Suarez/Evra classy? Is the way Sterling is being treated classy?

Class is a standing ovation at Stamford Bridge 2 weeks ago for a player we really don't like but know deserves respect. Class is a standing ovation for Frank Lampard when he turned up to play for City having said he'd never play against us. Chelsea fans don't need lessons on class, thanks.

You're talking about individuals who made mistakes in how they handled situations, you're tarring us all with the same brush, as for Heysel, it was a tragedy instigated by scumbags who deserve no connection with the club because that isn't what they stand for nor accept. I also don't accept it either, but then saying that must mean I'm a cultist. :/

After reading Tony Barret's article tonight, it's quite clear that BR isn't as safe as the media perceive him to be. I personally think he'll be sacked with the main reason being he's lost the dressing room. This is without taking into his transfer failures and the lack of identity in our style of play.

Anyway, giving it some thought I think FSG should prioritise getting a D.O.F in and reviewing the wage structure & contract renewal method.

With a DOF these would be my top manager targets: 1) Klopp, 2) Rafa, 3) FDB, 4) Unai Emery

And for Sterling: it's simple. Sell to the highest bidder. He only came to LFC because we offered more than anyone else anyway. Wash our hands, don't need players like that.

I personally think the media backing him was down to comments he made, his cronies made, or stuff he said to his journo pals, I mean the owners never made any such comment he was safe, and its not like the review of the club instigated by FSG had A) even finished or B) Made it clear Rodgers was safe.

I think he's gone. You simply don't come back from wasting £50m, losing the dressing room and losing arguably the club's greatest player.

He lost me at Wembley, Liverpool Football Club should never lose to Villa in a semi at wembley in the manner we did

I don't much like Arsenal, the 2-3 at Stamford Bridge (Kanu hattrick) was probably the sickest I have ever felt leaving a football game. But I am caught with mixed feelings because of Wenger.

Like many I have watched the Ty/Claude videos on youtube. I used to enjoy Arsenal's inadequacy. But nowadays I secretly feel for Gooners fans who must feel like they have been stuck in some kind of groundhog day.

For years, Wenger mocked the pragmatic approach of managers like Mourinho in "big" games, even though the secret of it is to respect the opposition rather than arrogantly think you can blow them away and if you don't it means they haven't played "proper football". But this season he has changed at last. The 2-0 at City was a type of performance I haven't seen from Arsenal for 10 years.

If Wenger actually signs the 2-3 players you need this summer you will be a real threat next season. But will he?
