I'm contemplating transferring out Giroud and Ramsey with 2 freebies as I can see them getting rested for FA cup final. I can afford either:

    A) Costa (SUN) & Bolassie (SWA)

    or

    B) Lukaku (TOT) & Mata (hul)

3 points off top in ML so crucial decision.

Would bringing Yaya in on a punt be too much chasing last weeks points? Already have Kun and Silva, but could be Yaya's last game at City and Soton defense not that great on the road.

    ...............Schmeichel
    .......Terry - Smalling - Morgan
    Albrighton - Mata - Silva - Sanchez
    ......Lukaku - Benteke - Aguero

    Panti; Hendo, Skrtel, PvA

@Ruth_NZ That article makes comparisons which do sound believable, but its simply someone trying very hard to undermine and then discredit Liverpool fans, firstly I would say YNWA is just a tradition we have, it serves no purpose other to show that the club, the players, staff and fans stand United in what they try to achieve - success on the pitch. Secondly to great lengths about how Liverpool fans talk of 'history' again trying to discredit us as cultists, the reason for Liverpool fans staunch defense of their 'history' or rather success is because Liverpool haven't been a force for over 25 years, how else could they react to 'banter' bow down and admit defeat? I'll happily admit history means nothing for the hear and now, I'm different, am I stripped of individuality? All this was simply to discredit Liverpool fans in some pretty intelligent banter, don't read into it too much. Also on the ex-Reds in the media bit, I think Thommo, Lawro, Hansen are all tools, they know no more than my dog.

History is past events. Thus Chelsea's title win is now history. So therefore it means nothing, right? I think history is important because it defines a club and give it an identity.

Of course, It's just it's of more importance to look to the future and not to dwell on the past, if you get what I mean.

I'm not saying I agree with everything in that article but I do think it has a grain of truth.

All clubs have "history". The problem with Liverpool is that for many fans their view of who is, or is not a big club is frozen in the 70s and 80s. Historically Everton were the senior club on Merseyside up until then and Liverpool were a lower league outfit at a similar level to Tranmere.

I am a Chelsea fan and I can tell you that taking the mickey out of ourselves is part of our DNA. The peculiar thing about Liverpool fans is that they seem singularly unable to do that. There does seem to be an element of something akin to religious fervour in that, doesn't there?

      1. Licky
        • 14 Years
        11 years, 2 months ago

So you're saying Liverpool's 'DNA' should be identical to that of Chelsea's? You can't compare the peculiarity of how Liverpool fans act to other clubs fans like United or Chelsea's who have had recent success, consider the time lapsed since we were the dominant European and even more so domestic force, and then take into account how much mismanagement the club has been through since then, it has suffered with a series of owners particularly Moores who did almost nothing to modernize the club and get it truly competing again, Liverpool fans act the way they do out of desperation for the success the club should be achieving (though not entitled to, that would be ridiculous to suggest)

What kind of history that Chelsea have until roman taken over and splashed the cash?

Let's answer you, you do not have any history. This doesn't impact players efforts and Chelsea deserve to win the league this year or other titles throughout Roman's ownership

but your history is zilch and unfortunately and embarrassingly some of your fans are racist!

Look at the mirror before make any statements to other clubs and their history

        1. Licky

A lot of the clubs, most likely all have 'bad fans', realistically all clubs have mission statements that show what they stand for, as others have said you just can't tar all groups with the same brush, it just doesn't work. So any attempts at discrediting any group can itself be discredited by some member usually.

Just out of curiosity how much winning do Chelsea need to do since Roman took over before they have history?

Genuine question, I find it odd that this gets thrown around.

Chelsea are one of a handful of clubs to have won all the European trophies at least once, have now got 5 league titles overall and a bunch of cups. There's plenty history

Chelsea had won the Leaugue, the FA Cup x 3, the League Cup x 2, the Cup Winner's Cup x 2 and the European Super Cup. Finished top 6 in the Premier League the 7 years prior (including 3rd in '99) and had qualified for the Champions League (and played in it, reaching the Quarter Finals in 2000).

To say Chelsea won more since Abramovich is undeniably to true, but to say they had 'zilch' history prior is obviously untrue.

All the titles he mentioned were pre-Roman. You are exhibiting an embarrassing lack of knowledge. Never heard of Wikipedia?

Immediately pre-Roman, Chelsea had qualified for Europe in 6 seasons out of 7. They also won a European trophy before Liverpool did ((Cup Winners' Cup in 1971).

Finally, history is something all clubs have. Part of Chelsea's history is a battle waged by the fans in the 80s to prevent Stamford Bridge getting into the hands of property developers and the club from going out of existence. You can dismiss things like that as "no history" but that's like saying Belgium isn't a real country.

"Fans" like you don't get to define what history is, sorry.

Shankly arrived in 1964 if I recall correctly. Prior to that they were a lower league team for a long while and the "purple patch" for Liverpool was 70s and 80s. That's what I was referring to.

I currently have my important mini leagues wrapped up but I sit just outside the top 10k (hopefully tonight can put me there) and hope to finish with a 4 digit rank. Current rank is 12.5k

Does this rank make this more or less likely?

Who knew a simple game (football) with the idea to entertain could cause so much hatred. I enjoy American sports because generally the fans get along...even if it's the rival team. You don't act barbaric and shout abuse at them.

It's because in American sports the fans aren't really fans (fanatics) who'll fervently support their own team and shout abuse at others (within reason 😉 ). I'll agree wit Ruth_nz on that about football fans. 😉

This mostly happens in football. Many other non US sports are more civilized as well.

I have yet to see a fight break out at the snooker for example. Even in the Barmy Army stand in the cricket it is good natured.

      Melia (NE,sea)
Waston (col) - Dia (NE,sea) - Opare (ne)
Tchani (CHI) - Finlay (CHI) - Feilhaber (NE,sea) - Rolfe (ne)
      Larin (sj) - Agudelo (skc,DC) - Dwyer[c](NE,sea)

I've got a couple Colorado guys but leaving them on the bench this week. and, I'm looking to bring in Dempsey and Giovinco, but finances are tough and it is tricky with all of these double game weeks rolling through every week.

Don't know if I'll bring him in, but got my tickets to see Gerrard in a few games once the second half of the season rolls around...

There's a problem in fantasy football where players rate a team's overall chances of winning a match based on their reputation as a club instead of by their form.

For example, the way Sunderland have been playing lately and the way Chelsea have been playing lately..you'd have to be crazy to think Chelsea will just run amok.

Hopefully a good game. Really should be.

I'm upset at the draft though. Knicks only getting number 4 sucks. Curry was a blow years back too. Safe to assume number 4 this year could be made available.

Mini league sorted. 80 points up. Therefore nothing to lose
Arsenal mid (I own 3) Kane, graham (what was I thinking) to ulloa costa and Milner/ bolasie. All for a -8. Don't see a huge reason why not.....

Yeah true. Benteke is the form option but can u see him getting a rest at all? My issue with lukaku is every time u expect a decent haul and even consider him for the armband he always disappoints. Unpredictable points scorer to say the least.

Early push for a goal but keeping it solid at the back. If that fails, don't concede and stay in the game until mid second half, then push like crazy for the goal they need. That should be the basic tactic.

If Newcastle stay in the league they will surely improve defensively next season (could they get worse?) Janmat with a half decent defence could be a massive point scorer.

Last two transfers of the season in the ESPN game.... 🙁

    1. Mane and Giroud to Bolasie and Costa

    Or

    2. Alder and Giroud to Kolarov and Lukaku

If I go for the first move, not sure that Bolasie plays, as he'll be behind Hazard, Sanchez, Ozil, and Silva, but would provide some cover if there ends up being shuffle of the Arsenal mids. If I go for the second move, Alder won't play either way, but if I get Kolarov, that will push Trippier to the bench, and Lukaku obviously slots into the front line. Had also been considering Cisse, but he's dropped further down the list.

So, Trippier and Costa with Mane as first sub or Kolarov and Lukaku with Bolasie as first sub if that's an easier/better way to think about it.
