In 2013/14, Yannick Bolasie’s fleet-footed trickery may have caught the eye but, with just four assists to his name, it’s fair to say that the Crystal Palace flier struggled to translate his displays into tangible returns. Bolasie remained a somewhat peripheral figure throughout the first half of last season, before Alan Pardew’s arrival at the club harnessed the winger’s unique talents to greater effect, resulting in a significant improvement in his Fantasy prospects.

Ahead of the new campaign, Bolasie will be considered as a real prospect to sit alongside midfield heavy-hitters. An unpredictable but potentially explosive mid-price asset, the Eagles’ “magic man” could easily justify the gamble. Here’s why…

Key Factors

  • Pardew’s appointment at Selhurst Park marked a distinct transformation in Palace’s playing style. The former Newcastle United boss released the shackles from their wingers, placing a greater emphasis on delivering crosses to the lone striker and midfield runners. This shift in approach was epitomised by the fact that Leicester City (470) were the only outfit to attempt more crosses than Palace (444) from the point that Pardew took the helm in Gameweek 21. Only five teams tallied more goals than Palace (27) during that period, while the Eagles ranked joint-third – behind only Manchester City and Arsenal – with regards to shots inside the box, heightening Bolasie’s attacking prospects.
  •

  • Bolasie made great strides on the productivity front in 2014/15. The DR Congo international recorded an impressive four goals and ranked joint-second, behind Cesc Fabregas (18), in terms of assists (12). Exploring his goal threat in greater detail, Bolasie upped the frequency of his efforts from 44 minutes to 41.9 minutes in 2014/15. He subsequently placed tenth among midfielders for total attempts (69), which was just three shy of Eden Hazard’s tally and three more than David Silva. What’s holding him back is a pitiful 5.8% goal conversion rate which, if improved upon, could make him a mid-price powerhouse. Nonetheless, Bolasie also improved from a creative standpoint, executing a key pass every 64.2 minutes in 2014/15, as compared to every 84.4 minutes in the previous season.
  •

  • Bolasie’s out-of-positon potential further augments his appeal and will perhaps persuade some Fantasy managers to choose him over team-mate Jason Puncheon. Pardew fielded the Rushden & Diamonds academy product centrally – as a support/lone striker or a false nine – at choice moments throughout the season. In fact, his 24-point haul against Sunderland – courtesy of a hat-trick and an assist – was the product of a central role, while Pardew wasn’t afraid to deploy Bolasie up front against Chelsea and Liverpool in Gameweeks 35 and 37 respectively.
  •

  • Bolasie was valued at 5.5 at the start of the last campaign and is in line for price rise to the 6.5–7.5 mark, having contributed to 16 of Palace’s 47 goals. Taking the season as a whole, Bolasie carded a points per game average (ppg) of 3.9, yet comparing this metric under the tenures of Pardew (4.9 ppg) and Warnock (3.1 ppg) better exposes his evolution as a Fantasy asset. The Lyon-born wide man contributed to 10 of the Eagles’ 21 goals upon his return from the African Cup of Nations, highlighting his focal role in their attack.
  •

  • A firm favourite of Pardew’s, Bolasie position as a starter appears to be under little threat. The Palace head coach feels that the winger will attract a host of suitors if he can improve his finishing, given that Bolasie’s goal output doesn’t yet do justice to his spellbinding build-up play:

“He needs to find the end product and he’ll work hard on that next year. We might have a problem next year if he really starts banging them in. The thorn in his side is actual goals. Just on this season, it would be a mistake for a top club to get him because I don’t think he’s ready. But he will be ready in maybe a year or so when he’s got over that final hurdle. Then there will be no stopping him. He’s a fantastic boy and a fantastic talent. I love him to bits. I call him my “magic man”.

I'd say Zaha is capable of more FPL returns than Bolasie, and could be 5.5 compared to Bolasie's 6.5

    My current 4th midfielder pick.

I hope he will. Zaha, Puncheon and Bolasie with Remy ahead and Cabaye behind will probably be one of the top attacks in PL.

Would be extremely interested in Cabaye if he somehow arrives as well.

Yes, but Remy's Liverpool fiasco last year, and him getting injuries even after playing 1-2 games will put a lot of clubs off.

Also it is to be seen if he joins another top club to be their 2nd/3rd choice, or play regularly at Palace/Newcastle etc.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Is the fourth midfielder place the hardest to pin down?

Who are your top contenders (and yes I know we don't know the prices yet, but its fairly evident that Bolasie/Puncheon/Milner and others will be in that general 6-7m area)?

For me I think it'll be Ritchie due to fixtures. Bolasie does intrigue me though.

Based on his role in the team and set pieces but also it being a newly promoted side I think 6m would be fair. 6.5m is very possible though. If he's 7m then he's overpriced until he proves otherwise and I'll avoid. Alot will depend on Wilson's price as well. If there's a big gap the cheaper may win in terms of ownership. They should both prosper.

        1. Christina.

That would be fair. I like to think there's an element of game play in the pricing though to give people a nice choice. So making one slightly cheaper would be a shrewd move - could reward or punish those who opt for the more expensive option.

Cannot be more than 5.5 for a promoted mid, surely? Only Ings and Austin came in at 6 last year out of the promoted teams; they scored a lot more than Ritchie in their season in the Championship and were forwards?

Deeney will be 6, maybe Wilson?

One of the Palace mids will be most popular, I guess. Puncheon, Bolasie, Zaha, Cabaye (!).
Sissoko will be an option for me if Newcastle manage a half decent team for this season.

He's a pain to own in FPL. Not consistent. But he is actually pretty productive in games like UFPL where you have in gameweek substitutions. I had him in UFPL all of last season and he was great for me.

Not sure 'inconsistent' is fair - inconsistency of starts is true but he returned very regularly in those games. 11 goals and 6 assists in 30 starts. Lovely 🙂

I never get the 4th midfielder right, it's tough because they are inevitably patchy players, and if you may have to switch frequently to catch the points. The problem is that I always miss them.

For me the question is also whether your 3rd midfielder is in this price range as well. We might have to to accommodate costly investment elsewhere and so the 3rd and 4th mid at £7m might be needed.

I will probably avoid the problem entirely and set up for a 4-3-3.

Which would you rather have in your team - a 6.0 defender or a 6.0 midfielder? That's the question I think.

Later in the season, if and when it becomes apparent where the value cheaper midfielders are, I may switch over. Alternatively there may be an under-priced midfielder at the outset who is obvious (like Sigurdsson at 6.0 last season). But otherwise it's an initial 4-3-3 for me. 🙂

Last season you could have started with Siggy (154 points at 4.8ppg for 6.0m), Chadli (160 at 4.6ppg for 6.0m), Henderson (162 at 4.4ppg for 6.0m) or Downing (160 at 4.3ppg for 5.5m).

        Or in defence, Azpilicueta (132 at 4.6ppg for 6.0m), Koscielny (120 at 4.4ppg for 6.0m), Kolarov (92 at 4.4m for 6.0m), Bertrand (140 at 4.1ppg for 5.0m) or Clyne (142 at 4.1ppg for 5.0m).

So you should probably be comparing under-priced midfielders at 5.5-6.0m against under-priced defenders at 5.0m.

6.0m is too much for a 4th defender.

        1. Ruth_NZ

Wouldn't be a 4th defender. Would be a 2nd/3rd defender. But never mind.

As I said, if there's an obvious underpriced midfielder at 6.0 then that will change things. That takes care of the Sigurdsson comparison. If there's a Sigurdsson I'll be happy to set up for 3-4-3.

But if not I'll have Koscielny and a 4.5 bench midfielder and play 4-3-3. Chadli, Downing, Henderson had good seasons but how many could predict that in GW1? Koscielny, Azpi etc. are known and reliable quantities. I'd rather start with that than playing Russian Roulette on a bunch of 6.0 midfielders I am uncertain about.

I really don't get the allergic reactions on here to 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. They have quite some logic to them. But we are talking about 1 player different, that's all. A premium defender instead of a low/mid priced midfielder or striker.

OK, I see what you mean.

A 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation could be good to start with, since money will be tight and the midfield bargains might not emerge till later.

If your squad contains 2 cheap midfielders and 3 cheap defenders rather than 1 cheap midfielder and 4 cheap defenders, then you would also have the option of benching 2 midfielders and 1 defender some weeks and 1 midfielder and 2 defenders other weeks according to fixtures, so it would be quite flexible.

But I would expect a good 6.0m midfielder to emerge later in the season, and would then want to switch to a regular 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.

              12.0 10.0 6.0

Something roughly like that for the 4-3-3. The 2 x 4.5 defenders are a rotation pair. The 2 x 4.5 mids are bench players.

Would mean no Hazard and no Sanchez but I'd be happy with that.

Last season the highest scoring 4.5m defenders were Morgan (112 points) and Neil Taylor (109).

The top scoring 4.5m midfielder was Boyd (110).

Not much to choose between them, so in weeks when both Morgan and Taylor had difficult fixtures, it would surely have been better to bench both defenders and play your 4th midfielder (Boyd) instead.

Sure. No argument about that. Especially if there's a Boyd available.

The detail depends on players and prices. The rough shape is what I'm looking at and I think it's more likely I'll start 4-3-3 than 3-4-3 right now. But we'll see.

Similarly, if your squad contains 2 cheap midfielders and 2 cheap defenders rather than 1 cheap midfielder and 3 cheap defenders, then you could bench any 3 of your 4 cheap players depending on fixtures.

But one thing to remember is that you can save 2.0m by replacing a 6.0m defender with a 4.0m defender, but only 1.5m by replacing a 6.0m midfielder with a 4.5m midfielder.

Carlos Kickaball pointed out the 4.0 defender thing and you are both right of course. A playable starting 4.0 defender (Wisdom, Hutton) could also change things in favour of the 3-4-3. All depends on players and prices really, just thinking about options at this stage.

better than I thought and than trailer makes out

no way where near as good as the first (obviously) but better than 2 & 3. although it is a lot more similar to the first film, similar story line etc... decent to watch but the character development and story arch os very weak

Bolasie, Punch and Zaha in midfield provides Palace with a really talented attack. if they had a top notch striker up top they could be a quality top 10 team.

I fear for us too Doos, I never wanted Martinez and I worry that this will be the season that Moyes' solidity is dismantled entirely. I think we may be en route to being a regular bottom half team now, after years of top 6-8.

      --------------Cabaye--------------McCarthy/Jedinak

As I said above, you think they'll splurge 30m? Remy is also a huge injury risk and Jedinak is clearly out of favour, wouldn't surprise me if he's sold.

I did say it was a surprise! Mourinho is a very consistent manager whereas Pardew tends to start hot then wear out his welcome. Perhaps I don't know them so well but I don't see much depth or defensive steel. West Ham had a more talented team last dragon and through injury and bad form were playing like relegation candidates in the second half of the season. Can happen to anyone

We're getting at least £20m - Schneiderlin's replacement will be bought in. Song, Gueye, Clasie. No, Doos, it won't be Reed.

Mané is more than capable of playing wide. JWP can play as CAM or as a third CM. And he's played wide right on multiple occasions, with the fullback overlapping.

When Koeman arrived, he was very clear that Schneiderlin and J-Rod could not, under any circumstances, be sold. Those were the two he wanted to build the team around. Obviously, he expected J-Rod to be back in November/December but I still think he thinks very highly of him. I think J Rod was too important to Koeman to rush back. 😀

Didn't realise that he rated Jrod that highly. Hopefully he can get him back to 100%, will be good to see you doing well in Europe and challenging top 4. Playing in Europa seems to have a negative effect on league form, so I am eager to see how koeman with his experience, will adapt to it.

Emmanuel Adebayor says he is looking forward to next season with Tottenham Hotspur after scoring the winner for Togo in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia.

The striker, who scored just two goals in 17 appearances last season, tweeted: "Feeling really fresh after my goal. Can't wait to come back to Tottenham and show everyone the passion I have for the club...Looking forward to pre season!"

Will he play ahead of Harry Kane?

Germany defender Benedikt Howedes has revealed that he has turned down a move to Arsenal to stay with Schalke.

The 27-year-old told kicker-Sportmagazin: “Milan and Arsenal have really been keen on my services, this is what I am able to confirm.

“Still I have not opted against them, I have decided in favour of FC Schalke 04. My job is not done here yet. And, especially after last season, I told myself I do not want to leave this way. I am a key player of this club.

Anyone considering following in March's footsteps and starting with a 3-5-2 this year? So many midfield options compared to up front. The argument is always a lack of flexibility, but it does allow you much more room for the generally more explosive early season players.

the problem for me Doos is if you go with a 5.5 striker it is very difficult to upgrade and you are stuck cycling between the low bracket choices then unless you take a hit or bank a transfer.

I think the key is to stick with one. Everyone last year was chasing points with Naismith/Ulloa and the like, whereas if anyone stuck with Austin (or even Ings) the whole way they did a lot better. I expect Deeney or Wilson to be the same this year.

An anomaly. Gru, Kun, Kane, Kosta didn't play a full season. The old order will be restored.

This is how it's generally perceived, but rarely true.

Especially for early exploders, most tend to be mids. Michu, Fellaini, Ramsey, Sigurdsson, even someone like Chadli - there's a lot to be said for the ability to accomodate more of these, who have the chance of becoming season keepers, unlike strikers who are streaky as hell early on.

          What???

          Forwards->Mids->Defs->Goalies

That's always been the way. Forwards tend to score more goals than most other positions, therefore grabbing the baps.

Sweeiping statements don't make something true.

Forwards don't tend to grab the baps just because they score more - Hazard vs. Costa demonstrates this clearly.

the only reason Utd finished 4th last season was DDG and Liverpool falling under pressure again.

Too early to say but if City get sterling and a solid cb and a top cm as they seem to be targeting I think they could really push Chelsea. Very few teams go back to back title wins so Chelsea do have that against them.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is ready to hand Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker a Premier League lifeline - despite him being relegated in each of the past two seasons.

Howe has added the 23-year-old England international to his list of targets as he looks to revamp his squad ahead of the Cherries' first ever season in the top-flight.

Surely not! Caulker is a poor defender who people round here have a fascination with because he has a threat from set pieces. Don't do it Eddie!

Haha - I was picking Chadli from an FPL perspective, this is real life I'm thinking about now!

Besides, having Caulker in a team automatically weakens their clean sheet chances 😉

because of the lack of competition around them really.

our squad is still decent and it is young. we have a long way to go and it will be a while before we get back to winnings ways, if that ever happens, but on paper our squad is good enough to finish in the top 4 at the moment.

why do people assume Utd will get top 4 this season? last year they had no Europe and a stat defying goalkeeper.

Spurs only just finished ahead of Liverpool who played most of the season without a striker. I can't see Kane repeating last seasons goal tally. Liverpool have more potential to improve than spurs, going on players bought already/ players to be bought.

Is Sterling a potentially great player or is he already on the way to being one? I have read a lot of nonsense (imo) about Sterling being rubbish and another Aaron Lennon or Shaun Wright Phillips so I decided to have a look at those two careers and Ronaldo's at the age of 19 and 20 and compare them to Sterling. In Lennon's case he has 6 months or so on Sterling age wise also.

    Lennon 19 got 3 goals 8 assists 26 appearances, 20 he got 2 goals 5 assists 30 appearances, 9 England caps

Shaun Wright Phillips at 19 plaued 15 games premier league zero goals or assists, at 20 he played 35 games in the championship with 8 goals, at 21 he played 31 games back in epl with one goal and one assist. English debut at 22.

Sterling at 19 (started the season 18) played 33 epl games with 9 goals and 7 assists, at 20 played 35 games with 7 goals and 8 assists. International debut age 18 and 13 caps by age 20. 2014 second most chances created from play in the 5 top leagues in Europe.

I also found an article comparing Ronadlo and Sterling after 68 epl games with the following stats. six weeks shy of his 20th birthday, sterling had made 68 Premier League appearances while Ronaldo was still 20, but a little older, by the time he reached that mark.

    Goals - Ronaldo 9 Sterling 14, Shot conversion rate - Ronaldo 6% Sterling 19.4%, Assists (chances created) - Ronaldo 8 (90) Sterling 9 (112), Dribbles completed - Ronaldo 182 Sterling 165,

    Full article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2803055/cristiano-ronaldo-aged-19-vs-raheem-sterling-liverpool-face-real-madrid-two-measure.html

To me anyone that says Sterling is rubbish or a flash in the pan are either deluded or are saying it to suit an agenda (i.e. bitter Liverpool fans).

He works like a trojan almost never complaining even playing rwb for pool last season and giving his all even though he is clearly not cut out for that position?

Where do you see the terrible attitude? Because he won't sign a new deal at Liverpool? If he is worth 50m then they should pay him the going rate of a 50m player imo simples

he's on 35K per week.. 90K per week is the new contract.. seems they should pay £180,000-a-week to make him best paid player at the club..

Liverpool can't afford that. It;s a major problem at the club. Milner got a big wage because he was a free transfer so they afford to pay him higher wages.

Pool offered Sterling 100k a week.

But the bigger problem is we can't attract high profile players because we won't (or can't?) pay the big wages.

        2. djenzio
          • 11 Years

he should have taken the 100k a week the offered him. he could be an amazing player at Liverpool for the next 2 years then get a big move.

his stats speak for himself but he was playing as a striker last season a lot of the time and he did miss a lot of chances, his shooting has improved but he has a weak shot on him.

I do not agree with people saying he is rubbish, I think last season he had a chance to really prove himself and be the shining star at Liverpool but all the contract stuff and BR playing him in weird positions didn;t help/

If he leaves Liverpool I wish him all the best but I think he could struggle to make an impact at City if he leaves in the summer

I gave you a plus one for your reasonable response and for saying he is not rubbish and wishing him the best if/when he does move but I really don't agree that he should have taken less than the going rate just because Liverpool thought the could bully him into it.

The fact of the matter is he is the best talent to come out of the UK since Giggs and Rooney before him and if he can make more money elsewhere then Liverpool should at least pay him somewhere in between what he can earn and what they want to pay him.

I think Liverpool will struggle to sign someone who can become world class and for this reason they should be breaking the bank and building the team around Sterling.

            1. djenzio
              • 11 Years

I agree Liverpool should do what they can to keep him, but we did try to build the team around him last season and it didn't work.

We don't know how much of the contract issues are him and how much are his agent. but his agent came out and said even if Liverpool offer him 900k a year he wont sign. That to me is very poor.

I honestly don't know if Sterling wants to be at Liverpool or not anymore.

The portrayal of his attitude is very poor but we don't know how much of that is the media and how much is actually true.

If he genially wants to leave Liverpool then fair enough, or if it is a break down of communication because of his agent or because Liverpool and FSG won't pay him a fair wage, then a move away is better for him. Otherwise I hope that if he wants to stay we give him the wage he wants or as you at least pay him somewhere in between

It was the same with Saurez, Pool should have done everything possible to keep him. No matter what it took.

Great post and you've partly restored my faith in the Liverpool fans.

I was genuinely happy to see Liverpool challenging for the epl last season but after the hatred, bitterness and vitriol aimed at Sterling over not signing a new contract I had begun to think that they didn't deserve to be challenging for anything. I'd expect it from clueless United fans (I know there are some who know a bit about football too) but I had thought more of Liverpool fans for some reason.

He's a 20 year old wonderkid who thinks he's Luis Suarez. His value is based on potential, not refined talent. His off the field antics suggest a worrying lack of professionalism and maturity. And I do think he went missing in some Liverpool games when the going got tough.

Well I won't be too concerned about off field antics, he is a kid. 🙂

My potential vs talent thing wasn't solely aimed at him, but every young player. City have spent £42million on Mangala and possibly over £40 million on Sterling. That's the most they've ever paid for players, overshadowing the fees for Silva, Yaya, Aguero etc.

And as I say below, he is a much better player than Lennon or SWP, I don't think those comparisons are fair. I just am not sure how much potential there is remaining, but that will hopefully be cleared up next season!

                      Transfer market has changed though.

Prices go up all the time. Since that transfer Bale was sold for 100m and Carroll for 35m. To buy a 23 year old Kun in todays market would cost 70m or so probably.

His value is not based on potential though, he was one of the top scorers from play (9th for goal scored amongst midfielders not taking pens) and top assisters from play (3rd for assists amongst midfielders not taking set pieces) last season and he was even better the season before in the epl when Liverpool had a couple of strikers.

In 2014 he created the second most chances from play after Hazard in the top 5 european leagues (and it could be argued that a lot more of Hazards chances created were crosses compared to Sterling who was passing short passes inside the box or through balls.

People are just fixated on his age but if a 28 year old was producing what he is producing they would be considered top class never mind a 20 year old.

he played a lot of those games up top though.

he had a lot of chances to step up last season for Liverpool in the 'must win' games and he didn't do it.

I am a fan of his and love to watch him play but people like Saurez, Messi and Ronaldo win games on their own. Sterling didn't do that last season and he had the perfect opportunity to do so

I am using examples of world class players.

basically Sterling needs a break out season to prove that all of his potential is real.

World class players don't cost £40m anymore, they cost around double that.

Players like Bale, Neymar, James and Suarez are going for around double the price of Sterling, and so expectations should be relative to that.

Cuadrado, Willian etc cost £30m, Markovic cost £20m, full back are going for £20m these days!

that is a fair point, prices have increased a lot. But the players you mentioned had proven themselves before they went for 70/80mil. They had a break out season.

Sterling has not had that, he should be 25/30m.

City are only paying more, 40 or 50 or whatever they end up paying because he is home grown.

Djenzio said it. £50m players should be game changers. He isn't one (yet). I fully expect him to be one if he makes the right decisions and doesn't get carried away with the lifestyle.

that is way I think a move to City this season is wrong. not sure how much game time he will be given and if City will cut him as much slack as Pool etc...

I think he should stay for his own sake, maybe another season or two. just like Kane should stay. Kane produced far more than Sterling last season, is he also worth 50m??

both Sterling and Kane need more time to prove they can single handedly win a game. That is what a world class player does.

Kane has had one excellent season and is two years older than Sterling. Kane is not even close to the same league as Sterling (yet*).

                  Sterling FPL stats:

                  11/12 30 mins played 0 goals 0 assists (15 starting this season)
                  12/13 1748 mins played 2 goals 6 assists
                  13/14 2219 mins played 9 goals 7 assists
                  14/15 3047 mins played 7 goals 10 assists

                  Kane FPL stats:

                  12/13 141 mins played 0 goals 0 assists (19 starting this season)
                  13/14 500 mins played 3 goals 0 assists
                  14/15 2581 mins played 21 goals 7 assists

Tbf Kane has been linked with Man Utd but you would really have to see it for more than one season to be getting overly excited about it. I remember Kevin Philips scoring a shed load of goals one season, there was an Amir Zaki once who was golden for half a season and Papis Cisse looked world class for Newcastle for half a season. Sterling has been doing it for the last few years and he is still only 20.

Maybe, I still think he is a game changers. He beats people for fun and although he missed chances last season you know with a bit more composure and age that he will be slotting a lot more of those. Hazard misses loads too still and he is considered a top player.

I think it is slightly unfair to judge him on last season as even though he was their main threat and targeted by opposition a lot more (due to nobody else to worry about) he still had a great first half of the season but he got shunted around a lot more in the second half (without complaint) which really hurt his ability to effect things at the top end of the pitch imo. Put him in a team where the opposition has to worry about Silva, Aguero and Bony and see how much room he gets.

he didn't win big games for us last season though. I am not saying he had a bad season, or is a poor player at all.

I think he has a lot to prove still, and that 50m is way overpriced.

what you say about City with all their talent. it could go the reverse way and he will be completely overshadowed by Silva and Aguero. Will he fit straight into the team?

I am going off on tangents now.

Yeah you might be right but he fit in well with Suarez, Gerrard, Sturridge, Coutinho and played his best football.

He didn't win games on his own last year but he was on his own. The big players you are saying don't win games on their own either they have top class players around them. He was in a rubbish pool team last season (I predicted ye would finish outside the europa spots pre season and I don't really have a premier league allegiance) and he had to contend with playing almost a full season with no rest for the first time in his career.

We won't know until a few years from now but I think the majority of fans have this one wrong and that he will be a top class maybe even world class player. If Liverpool want to break into the top 4 then they need to be building teams around the likes of Sterling imo

I'm not saying he does not have to potential to be great...he can be one of the best English Players....but both of their team scenarios were different...Sterling can be great...I'm just saying he needs a Sergio Aguero...or a Fully fit Sturrdige up front to do good...

But saying all that...I don't think he will be able to reach Ronaldo's level...

Well the difference here is that i think sterling was by-product of saurez and studges great season. The team had luis saurez on whose back sterling played great on the otherhand ronaldo was the main man at united.

Ronaldo had Rooney, Giggs, Scholes, Tevez etc at United. He also has some decent players around him at Real Madrid 😉

Sterling has only had Suarez for one of his good seasons (he didn't have him last season and still produced)

Or they just think he has no end product. I don't know why it's not OK to not rate him.

We'll know in 2 or 3 years time, but the 'delusional' amongst us aren't going to hunt out everyone who thinks 16 goals in 68 games is good for someone who's played as a forward for a top 7 team and tell them 'we told you so', because we just don't care enough.

The issue with the comparison to Ronaldo is that the following season Ronaldo scored 17 goals and notched 17 assists. I'll wait and see if Sterling does that.

As for the rest of the post, he is not an Aaron Lennon, he is not a SWP, far from it. My questions have always been about how much development he has left in him. Essentially, whether he developed young into a good player who now won't progress much further or if he still has a huge tank of potential to fulfill.

    From Sky

The former Atletico Madrid striker (Aguero) has been linked with a move to Real, but is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror: “The only reason a player should leave a club is to achieve things, and I can achieve all I want to at City.

“I can’t stop rumours. I can’t stop people writing things. But what I can do is repeat what I have already said, and that is that I’m very happy at Manchester City.

“I have had success over the last four seasons there and I’m hungry for a lot more. Of course the Premier League is a big priority and we want to win it back, but it is a big dream to win the Champions League at City as well.”

        Aguero 😛

No clue to be honest with you. I'd be surprised at Kane, Higuain isn't going anywhere unless someone pays £72 million, I don't for a second believe Benzema is going anywhere. The only one I thought could have been possible was Cavani, but with Ibra probably leaving PSG he'll finally have his chance to play properly as a striker, so I doubt he'll leave now.

Can't think of many others, Lacazette appears perfectly happy in France so it isn't easy to call.

Ah, I see, I think Milanista was hopeful of it being a done deal so I just assumed he was off. There is a slim possibility of Cavani then, as he appears very frustrated to not be the head honcho but I'm sure PSG will do their best to keep him.

Well, I would say that they desperately need a CB and CDM, so I would be thrilled if those two areas were covered. They need another striker, no question, but in the current market, if they were to stick with Rooney all season (instead of mucking about his positions), have RVP and Wilson on the bench I would understand it. Wouldn't be ecstatic about it, but as I say above, top striker targets aren't forthcoming, so I'd accept it if it came to that.
