We continue our members articles looking back at last season with a review of West Brom’s displays under Tony Pulis. The Welshman took the helm after Alan Irvine was sacked – with the Baggies lying 16th in the Premier League on December 30 – and ultimately steered them to a 13th-placed finish, a full nine points clear of the drop zone. We’ll compare the attacking numbers from both managers’ spells in charge, and assess the similarities and differences in the statistics.

Irvine was a surprise appointment ahead of the 2014/15 season, having endured difficult spells in charge at Preston and Sheffield Wednesday. After managing a mere four wins from Albion’s first 19 matches, the Scot was relieved of his duties, with Pulis taking over on January 1, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal. Under the former Stoke and Crystal Palace boss, the Baggies secured seven victories from 18 matches, including wins against Man United and Chelsea in the final months of the season.

I'm strongly considering going for him. He scored well over 100 points last season and he had a bad season, he's more than likely got penalties this season, everton should have a better season, and there is no other striker to challenge him (except kone lol ) only downside, everton have a torrid first 10 weeks minus gw1

      It's a Pre-season friendly!

How does a friendly lineup (sure, it's a strong looking one) determine what is Pulis preferred team and means that anyone that's included in it must be a certain starter?! 😕 If you didn't notice, the team was missing Darren Fletcher who is captain and one of the first names on the team sheet.

For the record, Jonas Olsson is likely backup to McAuley/Lescott - if Lescott stays of course, and he's another that was missing from this friendly lineup.

Forgot about Lescott, was just hoping as I would love to have a 4.5 Pulis defender 😉

To be fair though, you could be on to a winner with Olsson on the other hand. He is likely backup to the usual pairing, but worth noting that Lescott's been left out the squad tonight. Not sure why but if he did leave I think every one of the FFS community would have Olsson in their teams. 😛

Having just realised that Tadic is only 7m, I thought we may be able to give each other a few pointer as to who the best value players will be this season and why?

I know Tadic has disappointed a bit in the past, bit he has also shown that he can get big hauls. He is playing in an advanced position and for a good attacking team. Add dead ball duties and decent fixtures to that list and I believe that 7m will look very cheap in a couple of months.

    Who have you noticed?
