As mentioned earlier in the week, Premier Punt is one of the new weekly games we’ll be covering over the course of the season. Our coverage of weekly games will take on a different approach this year – as discussed previously, I’ve been given £100 for each weekly game and will be reporting back every Friday on my progress.

Furthermore, I’ll be publishing a midweek “Weekly Shop” article, which focuses on those players that have arrived on my radar in advance of the weekend deadline.

I played Premier Punt a couple of times last season and, as the scoring mirrors Fantasy Premier League, including having to pick a captain, it should therefore be straightforward in establishing a similar pool of players to pick from. It may take a couple of weeks to get up to speed with their prices and where the value lies, though.

There are three timeframes available – Saturday games, Sunday games and then the Weekly games, with all of the fixtures included.

For each of these, I’m able to pick up to three teams and for the first week I’m going to experiment a bit with how I distribute my funds around the squads, so will play all three weekly teams, and two each on Saturday and Sunday in at least one challenge.

The Premier Punt player pricing appears to make it difficult to fit more than two big-hitters in without having to rely heavily on budget options, so this week I’m basing teams around two pricey key players, a few mid-priced punts and completing them with cheaper starters.

Only three players are allowed from any team, which makes Sunday, with only three fixtures, a bit harder than the others to create a balanced side. As mentioned in our midweek Weekly Shop article, this is where budget buys such as Southampton’s Matt Targett become incredibly useful.

The Bottom Line

In this section, I will be reviewing how I got on the previous week and listing my current profit margin. As the season hasn’t started, I’m planning how to spend some of my £100 kitty for the opening round of fixtures.

This Week’s Stake

Here, I’ll be running through which games I will be entering and how much I will be risking on Premier Punt this week. There’s always a chance that I will enter more games but I will cover this is the bottom line next time.

Weekly games – There’s a £200 free entry game available (no deposit required) so all three teams go straight into that. I’m also going to put Team 1 into the £5 challenge and Teams 2 and 3 into the £2 contest. I’ve also added a £1 entry in the weekly contest- the game name is Fantasy Football Scout.

Daily games – For the Saturday and Sunday challenges I’m going with both Teams 1 and 2 in the £2 stake battles.

Total Stake: £17

The £200 free entry game in Premier Punt means that anyone can take me on this week with no deposit required, just click here to join in. I’ll be reviewing my progress and acknowledging any community members that win cash, in next week’s article.

Don't like it. Prefer Cedric over Toby and maybe Mings instead of Richards. Although not sure about Bou defence.

      You getting Aguero?

I've seen a few people over the last few weeks mentioning "not wasting transfers on a keeper" when people have put a non-playing goalkeeper in their squad. Why is there a view that making a transfer of keeper is somehow a waste?

What do you think of this front 8

Depay Wallly Ramsey mane (scott sinclair)
    Kane Tekkers C.Wilson

Got 3 mil in the bank,.

The plan is to upgrade wally to hazard in a few gwks

I am just a bit worried i have too many midfield punts and my front 3 is quite weak

    1. Hairy Potter
      11 years, 2 months ago

Personally not sure about Deepay for the price when there are options like Eriksen, Fabregas and Sterling who have a proven record in the league.

I know nothing about Wilson, but would be tempted to upgrade rather than have money in the bank, but it depends on your plan to bring in Hazard.

Im kinda feeling in a good spot about the whole Aguero thing.

£2.5m itb gets me him in for Rooney.

A lot seem to be now wanting to pair Aguero and Rooney ditching Benteke but surely Benteke is the plum GW2 captain choice against Bournemouth whereas looking at the fixtures id be in no rush to captain Rooney except maybe gameweek 3 against Newcastle.

I'll use one transfer to get Aguero in, and let the season reveal the early bangwagons who can enable the real powerhouse fpl sides.

People ripping up drafts didnt leave any wiggle room to get Aguero in, i cant wait to see what they do when Sanchez pulls the boots back on.

    1. Frank Black

Rooney could be a great captain choice in each one of the first three games. Just look at his history against those three teams.

Keep 2 free transfers and downgrade the most expensive defender in order to upgrade the weakest midfielder/ attacker

  29. Big4FPL
    11 years, 2 months ago

Okay, I'm happy with my team BUT should I somehow find a way of Ozil->Walcott or is Ozil fine as an option? Or should I even go Ramsey/Caz over Ozil?

    Panti (Hennessey)
    Azpil Bellerin Gomez (Huth Oxford)
    Hazard Ozil Depay Mane (Bentaleb)
    Aguero Sakho Vardy

Will RMT in return if you post your team with your reply!! 🙂

    1. Danstoke82
      11 years, 2 months ago

This is a tough call. Walcott is a punt but could be explosive if up front. Pends if u feeling punts. If u looking for safety then go with Ozil. I've gone Walcott btw!

      Could u rate my team?;

      Schmeichel

      Azpi Mert Huth Francis Saylor

      Hazard Walcott Milner Ritchie Wanyama

      Rooney Aguero Wilson

      1. Big4FPL
        11 years, 2 months ago

Cheers for the reply! No problem mate, I like it, though personally I'd have Mahrez over ritchie to either do Mert>Kosc or Milner>Payet!! Thats just my opinion as I dont like the double bournemouth!

        1. Danstoke82
          11 years, 2 months ago

Cheers mate. Mahrez a decent option then?

Is Schmeichel and Huth too much Leicester?

          1. Big4FPL
            11 years, 2 months ago

Playing as a number 10 in a 352 and had a solid preseason, I'd prefer him over Vardy in my team but I don't want a 4.5 striker! Yeah, actually, that could be a problem, personally I prefer the 5.0 keepers in Mignolet, Panti, Fabianski but you could just change to Ruddy or change Huth for Coates

          2. Danstoke82
            11 years, 2 months ago

            How about this?

            Panti

            Azpi Mert Huth Francis Saylor

            Hazard Milner Walcott Mahrez Wanyama

            Rooney Aguero Wilson

            Better?

            1. Big4FPL
              11 years, 2 months ago

Nice, looks better! Personally I don't like Milner but that's just me, I'd have Tadic, but personal preference, thats all!

                11 years, 2 months ago

                Not sold on Tadic really.

Was stuck between Milner and Henderson?

    2. Areid13
      11 years, 2 months ago

Good balance but need a better striker than Vardy. I'd keep ozil over all of those options since Wally isn't nailed and I prefer Ozil to caz/Rambo

      Here's my team, cheers:

      Ruddy (Butland)
      Azpi Huth Cedric (Mings Saylor)
      Hazard Depay Mane Ritchie (Bentaleb)
      Rooney Aguero Ighalo

      1. Big4FPL
        11 years, 2 months ago

Cheers! If I was you I'd do Ritchie to Mahrez and Ighalo to Wilson/Deeney! I had Ighalo but Watford have signed Diamanti so I don't know how nailed on he is now!
