How many GWs out of 38 do you need to get the captaincy right in order to achieve a top 10k rank?

I've never really kept track over a full season so just curious?

    50%? (19 GWs) 70%? (27 GWs)

    What's the consensus?

You can do really well and flop your captaincies and you can do really well with getting your team wrong but nailing your captaincies. There's not just a single way to succeed.

Think Simon March did averagely on the captaincy front for example.

They may likely have the same haul.

I have different doubts about both so doubt it helps:

Gomis: worried about his durability; he IMHO has the most upside potential, real game and fantasy.

Pelle: The safe man´s pick (sorry owners) but he as well may share the same conversion rate through the same period as Gomis. But with him I am afraid he may get drowned out. with the quicker talent.

So doubt you could go wrong with either.

He´ll surely have to chase Mahrez around, meaning he´ll actually have to work hard this week...in turn no real returns. Besides, I would see how inclined the rest of the boys are to actually pass him the ball. Last I saw he was getting the hot urine treatment.

I guess it depends on how well the other highly owned captains do.

For example this week people that punted on Walcott obviously it didn't work out, but it's not like Hazard or Rooney did anything special.

Doubt many captained Mahrez, Yaya, or Kompany.

I just looked back at my last season, when I finished 10,516, and there were 13 weeks out of 38 that my captain choice was within 6 points of the best total I could have had. Three of the "misses" were weeks where I had a decent captain performance, but there were unexpected high scores from defenders or keepers that would have blown them out., so that would make 16 weeks?

Per FPL Statistico, I ended up with 55% of the captain points I would have had if I had made perfect choices every week. The range in my mini league for this stat was from low 40s for some teams that went Ghost and left the band on a decent pick, up to a high of 58.2% for someone who finished 95K. Looking back at his weeks, I'd say he also probably got it "right" 15-16 weeks out of 38. He had a few more "big hits" than I did, but I finished 130 points ahead of him on the season.

there's no exact formula to this. If you pick the right players and get fewer captaincy picks right then you can still finish high. I feel like a got quite a lot of captaincy picks wrong last year and still almost got top 1k

Yes - I finished 5,690 OR and scored 52.6% as Highest Possible Captain Points. I guess your OR depends more on your overall team.

Thinking AoA for GW2. Then WC GW4.

    Panti
Ivan Kosc ( Huth Francis Ward)
    Wally Sterling Mane Ritchie Bentaleb=>Payet
    Rooney Pelle Sakho

    Reasoning:
    1. 4.5 defs play my forwards and all away fixtures at strong teams
    2. West Ham with a lovely GW2 fixture.
    3. GW3 WC because I think I got the wrong ManC mid in. And will get Aguero in too.

Thoughts? My reasoning correct or am I missing by miles.

Yeah, probably. But imagine the effect of having 15 DGW players, or having a on-fire/explosive striker with 2 easy DGW matches.. The first is probably impossible without a WC, the latter could be possible though.

Well, you need to create an ok team for the week before as well, which of course is challenging. But if you do this well, the DGW/Bench Boost could easily earn you like 30-50 "free" points.

Yeah right. After choosing 11 DGW who will probably cancel each other out since you triple up 6 teams to get 15 DGW... unlikely... you think the 3 weakest +GK can score 15-25 to get 30-50 in a DGW...

There's some snake oil I'm looking to sell you.

After the DGW you have tripled up on 5 teams and so far from template that you suffer for the rest of the season...

    Share your GW1 agony....

After spending the last 6 weeks with sleepless nights debating between Benteke and Kane, Ozil or Cazorla, GK rotations, and who is the 4.5m midfielder of choice I managed to pick up all of 37 points on GW1.

The leader of my mini league has 64 with a team he picked via the auto complete button in about 30 seconds - including Hart, Kompany, Willian, Wijnaldum, Tadic, Lukaku and Pelle.

I'm on 29 points and after the initial shock, not angry in the slightest. Only one of my main rivals in mini league is more than a few points ahead. The top ten is made up of casuals and girlfriends. Our leader is from Ghana and picks every player from that country in his team. His captain is ayew

Everton plan to reject Chelsea's offer of £30million for defender John Stones, with the Toffees desperate to keep the 20-year-old and hoping the player and his representatives don’t push for an exit. (Daily Mail)

The Merseyside club are considering a move for AC Milan defender Cristian Zapata as a possible replacement, if Stones does leave to Chelsea. (ESPN)

Everton could also be on the verge of sealing the transfer of Manchester United defender Jonny Evans after bookmakers slashed the odds on the move. (Metro)

Tottenham are stepping up their interest in Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez and West Brom forward Saido Berahino and are confident of bringing at least one of them in during this transfer window. (Evening Standard)

I went for Mirallas as a punt first week!!!

Always the plan to take out after gw1 but who for?

    A. Andre Ayew
    B. Dimitri Payet
    C. Riyad Mahrez

Sounds like Ayew was playing just off Gomis. Was against tough opposition but Chelsea were a man down for a chunk of this game.

Dimitri Payet looked good against an Arsenal side that were expected by many to totally dominate and win that game.

Riyad Mahrez well stats and points look great but it was against Sunderland.

    What's your thoughts please?

    Thanks

Thanks. He's my favourite at the moment - even just for the short term fixtures
        Mahrez due a price rise
Monk has stated his attacking intent this season. Was Ayew up front with Gomis?

I'd honestly still get Sunderland. They always get stuffed in a match and then shut up shop straight after. Plus have the best fixtures. But if not probably yoshida.

People seem to be annoyed with Sterlings performance and yes his finishing can be very irritataing but that was his first competetive game for a new team, he cant help but get attacking returns in that side, City fixtures after this week are awesome, tripling up a very likely strategy so getting rid is a waste of a transfer imo

Apart from the Leicester boys which 5.5 and below mids stood out for you guys?
Never liked Shelvey.. infact i've never noticed him. but he'd be my odds on favourite to have a Siggy/Ramsey-esque season @5.5. Looked fantastic
Surman looks good as bench fodder too.. played well and created plenty of chances. though i would not expect a lot from him
Van Ginkel/Afellay have potential and Zaha will be a great option once their tough fixtures gone.
Overall it's Shelvey for me though atm

One who didn´t play but I will be monitoring hard is Deulofeu, especially if he learns to actually play off others. It should be entertainment if he´s fit enough to go vs Southampton.
