Yaya Toure scores twice as City sweep aside West Brom at the Hawthorns. David Silva chips in with an assist, whilst Sergio Aguero steps up his match fitness with a second-half cameo off the bench.

Toure brace propels Blues to summit

Yaya Toure reaffirmed his heavy-hitting potential with a first-half brace against an overwhelmed Baggies outfit. Granted, the Ivorian’s first goal was very fortuitous – despite David Silva getting a touch, the Fantasy Premier League attributed the goal to the Ivorian and the assist to Jesus Navas. There were no such doubts over his second, though, as he curled a sublime effort into the top corner. Although Toure had to be substituted after 80 minutes with a slight groin strain, manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he expects him to be fit to face Chelsea next Gameweek.

With most Fantasy managers turning their sights towards Raheem Sterling (22% ownership) or David Silva (10%) for their Sky Blues coverage, Toure (6%) proved to be a high-impact differential. Nonetheless, Silva showcased more than enough to suggest that his 10.0 price tag is worth the outlay, orchestrating the midfield with effortless poise and bagging an assist in the process. Sterling, meanwhile, fluffed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance, yet his pace in behind carries the promise of attacking returns.

Sergio Aguero was handed a 28-minute cameo as he gears up for a potential start against Chelsea on Sunday. Given the typically tight nature of that match-up (four goals in two head-to-heads last term), non-owners might be tempted hold off on recruiting the Argentinian marksman until Gameweek 3 (eve) or even Gameweek 4 (WAT), before City embark on a fantastic run of fixtures up to Gameweek nine (cry, WHY, tot, NEW, BOU).

Vincent Kompany (6.0) cemented the three points with a commanding header just before the hour mark. While City’s quartet of home ties after the Chelsea fixture look conducive to clean sheets, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) arguably presents a stronger case for inclusion in Gael Clichy’s absence, given that the Serbian full-back took precedence over Toure at free-kicks and ranked top for goal attempts (three) among defenders in Gameweek 1.

Baggies slump in home opener

Tony Pulis’ troops were comprehensively outclassed at the Hawthorns, falling to their second consecutive 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Saido Berahino – who lined up alongside Rickie Lambert in a 4-4-2 set-up – had his moments and was denied a goal by virtue of the offside flag. It remains to be seen how club-record signing Salomon Rondon will slot into the forward line, particularly with question marks surrounding Berahino’s future.

James McClean was favoured in the left-wing role by Tony Pulis, meaning Chris Brunt was deployed in the left-back berth – starving us of a Baggies defensive option. With a home clash against Chelsea just around the corner, many non-owners of the Baggies backline will be persuaded to steer clear until the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Where was Charlie Daniels playing for Bournemouth? LB or LW? He's classified as a mid on Sky and a defender on FPL, so I'm a little confused! He's not the most relevant of players, but could be an enabler in the Sky game or is oop on FPL...

Contemplating a Depay—>Chadli swap. I’ve got Rooney + Depay, and I don’t think we’re going to start clicking just yet, and don’t see a goal fest against Villa away. Rooney should be sufficient “cover”?

Chadli on the other hand looked Spur’s most dangerous player against United, and was their furthest forward player for half the time – always getting into good goalscoring positions.

Feels extremely knee-jerky though, Depay could very well score a goal himself against Villa. Just have a feeling now’s the time to get on the Spurs train, and Chadli’s the man…
Nice run starting now: STO, lei, EVE, sun, CPL

    Cheers

This season I am determined not to take a hit, I could do a long explanation but to put it simply:

If the player you're removing for a hit is a sure starter, for example let's say a kneejerk Ozil->Mahrez/Yaya, then the minimum (assuming no booking) he would have got is 2 points. Now, take into account the -4 you've taken, your new player will have to score more than 6 for this hit to be worthwhile and what's not to say Ozil grabs an assist next game or even just a clean sheet point? All I'm saying is a -4 is a big gamble, especially early on, when, other's will be taking hits, you could be hit free and instantly be 4 points up on someone else.

I understand that's the short term picture rather than the long term, but unless there's an injury to one of my premium players or someone has been dropped from selection whom my bench can't replace or someone I want in the future's price is rising rapidly to which I can no longer afford, I for one am going to try to avoid hits....even after a mediocre (to put it kindly) GW1!

having the same gameplan this year. last year i risked a lot of hits to grab those big points, it did pull off a few times but then overall the minus of points has added up over time and you end up behind.

im going to also try to only make transfers every 2nd gameweek. see how players do in my team for two weeks and see any changes in their form before jumping ship with 'em

    4. Fplnooob
      • 12 Years

i think everybody knows the concept of losing 4 points. majority do it to catch price rises and therefore increase team value down the track

      1. Big4FPL
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 6 months ago

See, I don't think the majority do, I think it's more people chasing points and panicking that because "insert name" didn't score this week but "insert name" did, that the same will repeat next week! Each to their own opinion though:-)

I often take early hits, and did so yesterday. I do so with the express intention of getting on bandwagons before they get rolling (obviously only when I actually believe in the player, not exclusively for TV).

My rationale is that, early on, if a player increases to 4.6M or 5.6M and you want them, you're instantly having to sell a 5M or 6M player to get them in. It's not just 0.1, it's the next price bracket up. Granted you would retain 0.4, but early days that 0.4 will secure you no enhancement in price bracket on another transfer (other than for a player who has dropped by 0.1 themselves, and you likely wouldn't want them).

you can quickly get to a point where you can't buy the player you want as a straight swap without downgrading someone else.

I agree with the logic of the 4 point addition you need to justify the transfer, and that is a risk, and even more so if the player you're buying isn't a top scorer with an easy game. But I have bottled taking a late hit in previous season and missed out on big points. I missed an Austin hat trick last year.

      Thoughts?

I see where you're coming from but it comes down to team value or points! But that Austin situation is rare, how often will that happen!

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I really wanted not to take hits this year, but I weighed it up, and sod it!! I can go either way as you say.

Team value is what helped me win my min-league last year. The other lads were amazed the amount of top players I was able to buy with my budget. They're making it harder and harder to benefit from it in the past year or two though.

Silva will be mr consistent all season, 1st choice for me, but no easy direct transfer, will take a couple of weeks to get transfers right to release the funds.

I'm starting to worry about this... I have a plan to get Aguero in. I feel that essential. I already have Hazard. Not really sure I can squeeze Silva in too. Would need find another 1M to upgrade Walcott, and I already feel I'm "enablers" in budgeting for Aguero.

Do you have all three (in your plan)?

Ill flag this post to make sure it gets picked up if theres no-one about.

Same for you Ruth. But in the meantime, you can add Adblock Plus as an extension in Chrome, which will stop adverts and popups on all sites.

Better off emailing support than posting here. I'll flag it up for them anyway.

I'd recommend it, usually quite cheap too 🙂

Only joking though of course - know it's annoying. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Brought in Ayew for Sterling, which means i have 2 mil ITB.

Thought it was a good idea at the time. Then a bad idea a few hours later.

However, now thinking it wasn't too bad, considering that 2 million means Walcott or Fabregas to Sanchez in the coming weeks. Happy now 🙂

Thinking of doing the same transfer. I prefer Payet but I don't want to double up (Have sakho)

    Payet or Countinho?

Payet has a great short term run and is cheaper by 0.5m
Coutinho in number 10 role with Benteke alongside, could be a great combo that share the point s like Sturridge and Suarez did

Fixtures say Payet. He's good for a fair few weeks.

This is my current team, thoughts?

    Ruddy
    Mert - Azpi - Cedric
    Hazard - Mane - Walcott - Mahrez
    Rooney - Benteke - Sakho

    Subs: Butland, Ritchie, Huth, Francis

Got 0mill ITB and 1FT. Very happy with my mid and forwards for the next couple weeks, but not sure on defence. Any ideas on changes???
