Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach – the first section will be free for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists in our Gameweek Captain Poll, though the latter two parts will be members-only, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team projections.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero claims the lion’s share (35%) of the vote this Gameweek, having announced his return to Manchester City’s starting line-up with a goal against Chelsea. The Argentinian marksman already looks to be firing off all cylinders, as evidenced by the fact he sits atop the summit for goal attempts (nine) among forwards this term. Such is the strength of Aguero’s fixture-proof status, his owners are not deterred by the Sky Blues’ trip to the in-form Everton this Sunday. Given Manuel Pellegrini’s troops fashioned 18 shots on goal against last season’s stingiest rearguard, the Toffees will do well to batten down the hatches at Goodison Park.

Wayne Rooney drops down a spot the second place, with 16% of voters keeping faith in Manchester United’s premier striker in spite of back-to-back blanks. Although Rooney tallied a paltry two goal attempts across his first couple of starts, the Red Devils’ home tie against Newcastle could well serve as the catalyst that kick-starts his campaign. For that reason, it no surprise his team-mate Memphis Depay occupies the bronze medal berth with 7% of the vote. The Netherlands international bagged an eye-catching brace during United’s Champions League qualifying win over Club Brugge and looks far more suited to the left wing role after moving out of the central position last time out. Furthermore, the absence through suspension of the Magpies’ first-choice right-back, Daryl Janmmat, should further stand to benefit the Dutchman if he’s retained out wide.

Bafetimbi Gomis is backed by over 6%, while Swansea’s high-flying new boy Andre Ayew has convinced just over 2% of voters to hand him the armband. The Welsh outfit have been in sensational from an offensive standpoint over the first two Gameweeks, chalking up more big chances (seven) than any other side. Moreover, they sit joint-top – alongside Man City – for shots on target (15), demonstrating their quality in the final third. A trip to Sunderland looks certain to harvest further attacking returns, given that the Black Cats shipped three goals in their previous home encounter against Norwich City.

Inspecting the lower reaches of the list, Eden Hazard and Dimitri Payet scooped 4% of the vote each. The former has yet to deliver any attacking returns but a road tie against West Bromwich Albion – who’ve been breached three times in their first home fixture – could serve as a fertile proving ground for the dormant big-hitter. The latter, meanwhile, will fancy his chances of racking up points for the third successive Gameweek as the Hammers gear up for a home tie against winless Bournemouth.

At 3%, Alexis Sanchez – who plays at home to Liverpool this Gameweek – is starting to build some momentum as a slew of Fantasy managers draft him in with their Wildcard. Riyad Mahrez is not far behind the Chilean livewire, with his proponents expecting the goal spree to continue at home to Tottenham Hotspur. Speaking of the North London club, it’s perhaps surprising that Harry Kane attracted just 1.4% of the vote, considering he tallied four goals (including a hat-trick) against the Foxes last season.

    Paddy Power 'Anytime Goalscorer' odds:

Here's the current odds Paddy Power are offering on Anytime goalscorer. Make of them what you will.

    CPL VS AVL

    Wickham 2/1 - Gestede 13/5

    TOT VS LEI

Kane 6/5 - Ulloa 2/1 (would rather have Vardy 11/5 or Mahrez 3/1)

    NOR / STO

    Jerome 9/4 - Diouf 12/5

    SUN VS SWA

    Defoe 21/10 - Gomis 7/5

    WHM VS BOU

    Sakho 7/5 - Wilson 9/4

    WBA VS CHE

    Berahino 7/2 - Costa Evens (Hazard 9/5)

    EVE VS MCI

    Lukaku 12/5 - Aguero 8/13

    WAT VS SOT

    Deeney 2/1 - Pelle 9/5

    C. Silva and Ozil

    Or possibly best of all:

    D. Silva and Sanchez and downgrade Benteke to Gomis

    Too many permutations! 🙂

Anyone who's wildcarded this week handing the armband to Memphis Delay? I'm seriously considering captaining him.

I'd think so, given the amount of money they laid out for him and the fact that they said the reason he didn't start the start of season was down to match fitness. I'd expect he ought to be there by now. Or soon at least.

Been using this great website for a couple years but just created an account today.

How do you think Kevin De Bruyne's pending arrival will affect Silva and Toure's fantasy potential?

Probably affect toure more than Silva, but it's just competition really. Can't be sure how it will pan out and who he will replace.

Also, head to gravatar.com to get an avatar set up - people will remember you easier and probably answer more.

      Welcome,

Is this something that's likely to go through?

I know little about him unfortunately!

Hitting the WC button is driving me crazy, because now the combinations are limitless!

    Newest WCT:

    Butland/Myhill
    Muniesa/Richards/Martin/Huth/Prodl
    Mahrez/Payet/Silva/Sanchez/Depay
    Kun/Defoe/Gomis

    0.0 ITB, seriously.

I am going nuts, please help...any changes/comments are highly appreciated...

      i feel you bro

I don't recommend any sunderland players. 2 Stoke defenders is too much for me.

downgrade defoe to a 5.0/5.5 (Deeney, Ighalo, Bojan(?)) and upgrade muniesa to a stronger defender

It looks good to me! I like a little more money in defense my self, but the midfield is great.

Do you have a plan to get in Hazard should the need arise, however?

That's the thing, I had another combination where I managed to fit in Hazard, but sacrifice every other part of course.

Yeah, I think you'd probably want to get a defensive upgrade in there somewhere.

Yeah, I had Kolorov in my team, then I downgrade Depay to Westwood...but now...I'm really in a confused state.

If I can afford Hazard, should I get him now?

    On a wildcard.

Rest of the team has the people I want it to have - Aguero, Sanchez, Kompany etc...

Just wondering if I should save the funds and go with someone else for now and plan to get him in later.

Buy somebody else right now who is in upper price range and configure yourself for an easy switch whenever Hazard throws the switch.

The weird thing is I have a team I really like and find myself in the odd position of choosing between Mane in Hazard. Leaves 3.5 in the bank. I figure if Hazard does well at the weekend, I can immediately trade him for Haz - so basically I'm wondering will Mane or similarly priced score more at the weekend than Haz? Bizarre to even be considering this!

I've kept Hazard but I'm not on a WC. I expect him to come good. If you're happy to go without Silva I think you should do it. It's tricky to fit those three in - Sanchez is the one I don't have.
