Liverpool chalk up a third straight clean sheet after emerging from the Emirates with a goalless draw. Arsenal fail to score at home yet again, with Petr Cech keeping the Merseysiders at bay with a string of vital first-half stops.

Arsenal Stutter at Home Again

Despite boasting nearly two-thirds of the possession (66%) and fashioning 19 shots at goal, the Gunners were unable to breach Liverpool’s unyielding rearguard. Astonishingly, the north London club have now drawn blanks in five of their last six matches at the Emirates across all competitions, which might encourage Arsene Wenger to switch things up for their next home encounter.

In light of Per Mertesacker (illness) and Laurent Koscielny sitting out this encounter, Gabriel and Callum Chambers were drafted into central defence. The former was the only member of Arsenal’s back five not to receive a single bonus point, with Petr Cech claiming the maximum three – the former Chelsea shot-stopper amassed 11 points in all, having rebuffed the Reds’ attacks with eight saves.

Alexis Sanchez’s came close to breaking the deadlock when he clattered the upright from close range following a well-worked move, while Aaron Ramsey’s 6% ownership were miffed to witness his goal wrongly disallowed for offside. Both players will fancy their chances of gracing the scoresheet soon, though, given that they face a trip to Newcastle United and home tie against Stoke City in the next two Gameweeks.

Reds Rearguard Holds Steady

Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the season after carding a third successive clean sheet. Joe Gomez (4.7) turned out a performance that belied his years, quelling the hosts’ threat down their right flank by virtue of his excellent positioning and impressive recovery speed. On last night’s showing, the ex-Charlton defender looks likely to retain his starting role in the left-back berth ahead of Alberto Moreno, rendering him the most valuable route into the Merseysiders’ defence. Three favourable home ties in the next four Gameweeks (WHU, NOR, AVL) only serve to strengthen his claim for inclusion.

Philippe Coutinho (8.1) fired a rasping strike onto the underside of the crossbar in the early exchanges, before forcing a superb fingertip-save out of Cech minutes before the break. No midfielder has attempted more shots than the Brazil international this term (15), which certainly bodes well for a Gameweek 4 clash against a Hammers outfit that shipped four goals last time out and are devoid of Carl Jenkinson and Adrian through suspension.

Christian Benteke (8.5) spurned a golden opportunity to afford Liverpool the lead in the first period but proved effective as the spearhead to their attack. Given that the other candidates around Benteke’s price tag (Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Graziano Pelle) also blanked this Gameweek, his 40% ownership will feel confident ahead of the above-mentioned trio of Anfield showdowns.

    Ruddy - (Rudd)

Balotelli had a lot of shots last year.

Coutinho couldn't finish a cupcake. Yes he is a good shooter from long range but the best mid picks are all adept finishers in the box.

    Bottom of last page.

    Currently have:

Sanchez - Silva - Mahrez - Ayew (Westwood)

    Aguero - Kane - Diof

i am thinking of taking a -4 hit doing Kane and Ayew to Costa and Redmond.

    Yes or no? And why?

    A. Costa and a midfielder up to 6.5 (Lens, Ritchie, etc.)

    B. Sanchez and a striker up to 6.5 (Wilson probably)

I'm using my free transfer to shift Sakho.

Question is whether to do Sakho -> Wilson for free or Sakho & Sanchez -> Costa & Ritchie (for example) for a hit. I'll probably avoid the hit but I really like the idea of having Costa...

Maybe. I'll be honest and say I haven't given the specific cheapish midfield choice much thought, just trying to get a feel for the Costa+6.5 midfielder vs Sanchez+6.5 striker equation.

For some reason I don't trust Norwich attacking options in the slightest. Probably due to owning Redmond for a chunk of the 2013/14 season. It wasn't pretty.

      Would play:

      Courtois
      Sagna - Gomez - Cédric
      Silva - Pedro - Chadli - Gradel
      Agüero (C) - Gomis - Diouf

      Schmeichel - Kouyaté - Targett - Darmian

Don't think you need Schmeichel when you'd be playing Courtois every week - would save some money with McCarthy.

About 3/4 weeks ago I was arguing with about 7 chaps on here, telling them Dawson was by far the best WBA defender to go with but they would have it! 'Lescott is the main man' they shouted! Well, I did say Dawson will be a starter ALL season, can't say the same for Joleon now can we? Dawson is easily the best pick and if the baggies sign Marshall in goal, Dawson will be the best way into that back line. If they don't sign Marshall, I will be sticking with myhill!

I suppose the best play was avoiding WBA defence altogether till it all became more clear.

Myhill, defo. Marshall, possibly! He will come in at 5 and will get a lot of points but he will be at more risk of rotation than Dawson! Contrary to goal record, he is a big threat off set pieces! Almost every corner is aimed at Dawson!

Bit worried about Mertesacker in my team, worth a -4 to make him Kolarov? Or just stick and if he doesn't play Huth comes in?

    Ruddy
    Merte - Cedric - Richards
    Hazard - Ozil - Yaya - Mahrez
    Aguero (c) - Wilson - Pelle

    Rudd - Huth - Coates - Sinclair

    0FT, 2.0 in the bank

Depay -> Countinho - thoughts please?

    Too soon? Too punty?

I'd like Depay to come good but I'm getting frustrated with him, and whilst Liverpool aren't exactly flying going forward, Coutinho is at the heart of everything they do create...

0ITB and no other pressing issues other than no Chelsea coverage, but I'm not losing sleep over that.

currently sitting at approx 2.9m OR; and rock bottom of all mini-leagues, having took increasingly risky punts in response to a rubbish GW1 (benching Mahrez? oh god why). Any surgery advice?

    Butland Schmeichel
    Azpi Mert Huth Francis PvA
    Silva Ozil Ayew Ritchie Mahrez
    Sakho Pelle Aguero.

£0.8m in the bank. Currently thinking one of:

PvA->Kolorov or Sagna (Kolorov has trolled me every time i have picked him which has left me a little nervous)
Pelle -> no idea. Southampton look toothless.
Sakho -> no idea. disappointed his involvement has only been one assist.
Ritchie -> no idea. Held on following the Liverpool game where he looked excellent (from a fantasy perspective) but had absolutely no involvement in the four goals on saturday. Still think he's a good player.

We were terrible in the first half, and in the second half he had very little space.

But he had a golden chance about 5 yards out and hit the post. Would have been a goal 9 times out of 10 for Sanchez.

He's a defender magnet. He was well involved but the opposition swamped him as soon as he was on the ball. Had little room to move but still did well with this limited space. Unfortunately lost the ball a few times too though.

    What to do?

    A) Mane -> 8.5 (caz\øzil\ramsey\payet\mata coutinho)

    B) Keep Mane cuz they play Nor at home and he is likely to play

Kane and Jerome out, maybe Wilson and Diouf in. Roll over the money to next week. Don't take a hit.

Kane > Benteke, Jer > Wilson. Imo Diouf is better then Wilson but you have not enough funds so....

No, no point doing a sideways defence transfer for a hit in my opinion

    Rooney + Aarons (don't ask) --> Pedro + Wilson?

    I've got 2FT

Would leave me with a front eight of

    Hazard Silva Sterling Pedro Anya
    Aguero Wilson Defoe

Anybody considering triple captaining Aguero this weekend?
Is it a week or 2 too soon for him?
