Eden Hazard banishes his out-of-sorts domestic displays to grab the winner for Belgium. Riyad Mahrez recovers from a back problem to help steer Algeria to victory, whilst Victor Wanyama and Christian Benteke shrug off illness and injury to turn out for Kenya and Belgium respectively.

Hazard Fires Belgium to Victory

Eden Hazard steered Belgium to a crucial 1-0 win over Cyprus courtesy of a goal four minutes from time. The Chelsea winger arrived late in the box and stroked home Dries Mertens’ cut-back from the byline, though according to manager Marc Wilmots, he was lucky to still be on the pitch:

“He (Hazard) was the worst tonight. I thought about substituting him, but in the last 10 minutes he always has the ability to do that. At the World Cup, this was the case. I obviously expect more from him, but he will grow as the season progresses.”

The Scout Says: For Hazard’s 36.3% ownership, the Belgian’s first goal from open play this term will hopefully serve as the fillip to inspire similar driving runs into the box over the Blues’ next pair of fixtures (eve, ARS). Although his key pass tally (13) is strong and ranks third among all midfielders, Hazard has struggled to translate penalty-box touches (21) into attempts (four), belying his 11.4 price tag. In contrast, Pedro – who’s clocked under half the minutes of Hazard – has converted 11 penalty-box touches into seven attempts, with the deep-lying Cesc Fabregas (11 to six) also finding more space to fashion shots. While the latter’s poor form renders him a peripheral figure at present, the former – who’s tallied one goal and two assists in two starts – threatens to emerge as the prime route into Chelsea’s attack if Hazard continues to offer minimal goal threat.

Mahrez Grabs Assist for Algeria

The Leicester winger recovered from the back problem that forced him off against Bournemouth in the previous Gameweek to start for Algeria against Lesotho. Mahrez needed little time to continue his domestic form, providing the assist for Faouzi Ghoulam’s opener in a 3-1 win.

The Scout Says: Given his top-flight impact so far, Mahrez’ return to action is a welcome relief for Fantasy managers. After grabbing three goals and an assist over August, the Algerian has climbed from 5.5 to 6.1 since the start of the season, with over 1.1m FPL managers clambering on board the bandwagon. Sitting in just under 37% of sides, he now faces Villa, Stoke and Norwich in the next four Gameweeks as Claudio Ranieri’s side look to continue the series of displays that have guided them to third in the table, with the Foxes scoring eight times – a tally bettered only by City (ten) and West Ham (nine).

Benteke Recovers from Thigh Problem

The Liverpool striker recovered from a thigh injury to start yesterday’s match against Cyprus. Benteke lasted the first 45 minutes before being replaced by Anfield team-mate Divock Origi after the break.

The Scout Says: Benteke has been sold by more Fantasy managers than any other striker over the international break due to the injury concern. Over 122,000 FPL managers have parted company with the big Belgian, who is still the most popular striker in the game, with over 36% ownership, despite scoring just once so far. With Philippe Coutinho suspended for the weekend trip to United, Brendan Rodgers will be relieved that Benteke is back in the frame as the Reds look to recover from a galling 3-0 home loss to West Ham. Most Benteke owners will be happy to hold, given that he has back-to-back home matches with Norwich and Villa after the Old Trafford trip, but blank in those matches and the exodus will surely pick up pace.

Wanyama Turns out for Kenya

Having missed Southampton’s previous league match through illness, Victor Wanyama recovered in time to captain Kenya in a 2-1 home loss to Zambia yesterday afternoon.

The Scout Says: After scoring three times for the Saints last season, Wanyama started this term as the default budget midfielder for many Fantasy managers. With uncertainty surrounding his future prior to the closure of the transfer window, over 225,000 have parted company with the Kenyan, with his price resultantly dropping to just 4.4 in the FPL game. One look at the upcoming fixtures indicates he’ll be handed bench-warming duties for his 12% owners – with United, Swansea, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, Ronald Koeman’s men may struggle for points at either end of the pitch.

Anyone specialise in Signed football memorabilia?
I have a signed Francesco Totti Roma shirt, which he personally signed just for me at Roma's training ground last year. It's super rare as he never usually signs stuff.
    Any idea what it's worth?
    I'm having a clear out.

EBay your best bet if you don't mind that.

Else you can look up an auction house (depending on where you are). That might be a bit more formal as they'll probably authenticate it.

£10 on summat you reckon is worth £350 = less than 3% - doesn't seem that unreasonable to me

the price normally drops once the shirt is out of season
also if it has your name on it as 'to kolarov love totti' then that takes value off it.
in truth these things are only worth what someone is willing to pay. Memorabilia sites have massive mark up as they can wait till the right buyers comes along, so what they charge £400 for will usually get £100-£130 on an auction site.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    The Scout Picks Lottery

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 5

This season we have revamped how we involve the community in our Scout Picks. Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

The big difference this year is the launch of the Scout Pick Champion Lottery. If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random tomorrow and then be asked to submit their XI by Thursday 3pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 82.5m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

Champions will not be able to be selected as a champion for a second time. The champion will be revealed in a new midweek Scout Picks article on Wednesday, which will outline out initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

Not really. It's not like players come with a limit on how many goals and assists they can get during x-period.

Pedro has been bought in by 110K managers this gameweek, yet he still refuses to rise in price. Is this a bug or glitch in the game? Must be, he surely can't still be protected?

I don't understand the price changes this year. - how can Pedro not rise and Walcott fall by 0.5 and Hazard by only 0.1?

Maybe FPL towers are making some subjective interventions and adjustments

      1. Billy Gilmore
        • 13 Years

Hazard and Walcott were always going to happen given the circumstances. Walcott is only owned by active players so was sold en masse upon his repeated benchings. Hazard is owned by a massive static group so has his price kept afloat.

stoke don't look like they will return regular CS I think.
WBA will give you more and even ones you don't expect, I am thinking playing a WBA defender almost every week is better than rotating something like bmouth/ stoke

KDB has the potential to be the assist king this season. Not sure he can pin a good cross in, nevertheless, with Aguero's movement, the pairing of KDB and Aguero certainly has potential.

It would be nice for someone to actually pass to Aguero.
Against Watford, the mids were just queueing up for shots. Looking to get on the scoresheet, rather than pass to Kun.

Obviously it's all theoretical at the moment on how well KDB will do, from what I've seen on him, he has the vision to slice defences with through balls. Aguero will be on the end of those and perhaps Silva.

I was gonna start doing a weekly bookies fav scoreline post but quickly realised it is a bit pointless, the score will always be 1-0 to the fav unless there is a big gap in quality between the teams in which case it will be 2-0. Teams that are evenly matched will be 1-1.
These would be the most common scores if the matches were played 100 times over, they really mean npthing in terms of prediction for that specific match. Oh well

Sounds like Pulis is as much of a fan of his chairman as Berahino is from his comments below! Berahino will probably benched for a week or 2 and then be back in the side.

"His gripe is with Jeremy - as far as I'm concerned, he will play for West Brom again," he said.

"I don't think he will talk to Jeremy. The problem is that he thinks he is being used.

"If you look at the club, Jeremy has sold players when it has suited him. Look at Shane Long, he sold him [to Hull last January] at a time when the club was left without a recognised forward. I think Saido thinks [Peace] is just looking at finances all the time."

Just read the same. He actually slated the whole team, to be fair ("I could have subbed 8 players on half time").

But frankly, what's wrong with the team is the coach himself who's so damn second rate. He's a big hindrance to an extremely talented generation. Too bad if Belgium ends up wasting the best years of those players with such a manager.
