Ladies and gentleman, as we’re all well aware the opening few weeks of the season have been brutal for many of us, as top teams and players have failed to perform. Add in the fact that Premier League squads have only recently been finalised with the close of the transfer window and I thought it’d be great to create a community tournament that starts in Gameweek 6, giving us ample time to get our houses in order.
The competition will be an American style play-off tournament with each round being a best of three, five or seven head to head. To ensure we have an even 32, 64, 128 or 256 there will be qualifying rounds where the required number of players with the highest aggregate score will qualify for the play-offs. Qualifying will also determine seeding for the tournament brackets with first seed playing 256th seed, second seed playing 255th seed and so on, giving an advantage to those who qualify strongly. Depending on interest, I have laid out several potential configurations for the rounds below:
In the event of a tie, strong attacking squads will be rewarded and the tiebreaker steps are as follows:
1. Most points benched
2. Fewest transfers for the Gameweek
3. Most goals
4. Most assists
5. Most defender clean sheets
6. Coin toss
In the event of tied aggregate scores in qualifying, the tiebreaker steps are as follows:
1. Most points benched during qualifying
2. Fewest transfers during qualifying
3. Drawing of lots
As a gesture of goodwill to this site and its great community, I shall buy the overall winner their Fantasy Football Scout membership for next season. To enter, please email me at grandplayoffs@gmail.com with your FFS username and FPL ID number.
