It’s time to touch base again with our Sky teams ahead of Gameweek 7 this afternoon. As always, we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends, the watchlist and take a look at the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 6 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Everton vs ChelseaSteven Naismith
Arsenal vs StokeJack Butland
Crystal Palace vs Man CitySamir Nasri
Norwich vs BournemouthWes Hoolahan
Watford vs SwanseaTroy Deeney
West Brom vs SouthamptonVirgil van Dijk
Man United vs LiverpoolDaley Blind
Sunderland vs TottenhamEric Dier
Leicester vs Aston VillaRiyad Mahrez
West Ham vs NewcastleDimitri Payet

Riyad Mahrez continued his excellent form by earning a fourth MoTM award in just five appearances, which highlights the Algerian’s near-essential status at the moment. Jack Butland and Daley Blind also have more than one award after both picked up their second last week. Butland is in sensational form and if Stoke can add some clean sheets to their repertoire he is currently looking one of the strongest options in goal. A final mention for Wes Hoolahan, who has been on our watchlist for a couple of weeks and continues to offer a great budget option at just 5.5m in an attack-minded Norwich team.

Gameweek 6 Bonus Points

Four goalkeepers picked up bonus this week. Jack Butland was the main man once again after making an impressive ten saves and earning the MoTM award to bring home seven points despite conceding two goals. Butland and Alex McCarthy are the current leaders in the bonus stakes, with six apiece.

In defence, nine players grabbed bonus, four for tackles and five for passes completed. Full-back Simon Francis was closest to earning both, missing out by one completed challenge – he joins Alan Nyom, Eric Dier and Jordan Amavi at the top on six bonus points overall.

In midfield, there were 15 beneficiaries in total: 11 for tackling and five for passes. United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger was the man to collect both in an impressive performance, helping himself to six points. Francis Coquelin is the game’s highest bonus earner, with 12 points overall so far.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

We have a Manchester exodus on our hands, with injury doubts affecting the sales of David Silva and Sergio Aguero, although both have since played in midweek and look fit for Saturday. Sergio Romero’s brief cameo in the United team looks over after David de Gea’s move to Real Madrid broke down. Wayne Rooney is a doubt for the weekend after picking up a minor injury on international duty, whilst Luke Shaw looks set to miss the season after a shocking leg break against PSV.

Riyad Mahrez and Andre Ayew continue to be drafted in by the masses. Harry Kane is a somewhat surprise inclusion, having yet to find the back of the net in five appearances. Bafetimbi Gomis is the second-highest scoring forward in the game and has three home fixtures in the next four to continue his form, whilst the consistent points offered by Yaya Toure have convinced 3.5% to further invest.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes
It was Riyad Mahrez to the rescue, as finally a captain brings home some returns. Alongside my double Watford defence, he was the only source of points as the rest of my team continues to falter. It’s a strange position to be in, though, as I’m pretty happy with the team overall and am fairly confident it will start to deliver shortly. Joe Gomez is one to keep an eye on, if he starts to find himself out of the starting line-up, and Sadio Mane has some tough matches coming up but he should be useful down the line for captain swaps. With far more transfers used then I would have wanted at this stage, I’ll do everything I can to hold off from tinkering for a while.

Captain Plan
In Gameweek 8, I plan on having just one captain, so because of this, I can be a bit more frivolous this week and not worry about who the armband lands on. Even so, I still have a tough choice. I’ll either stick with Mahrez for Saturday’s trip to Stoke and then switch to Mane for the Saints’ tough match at home to Man United or I’ll just go with the one skipper and opt for one of Sergio Aguero/David Silva. In the past, quality has offered outperformed quantity when it comes to captains but this season seems to go against most logic, so perhaps going with the “lesser†players is the way to go this time.

If, unlike me, you have a Liverpool attacker in your team, they look the best way of navigating this Gameweek, with Sunday to Saturday rotation involving two easy home matches on paper.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and we’re sitting second in the rankings at present. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 18:30 SkySports 1 HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football and interviewing former Chelsea boss Avram Grant.

Sorry. Kids bedtime suddenly hit. Not doing amaZing around 50k and still have Coates in my team. Few under performers but captaining payet this week helped a lot.

Need to think about the captain switches in the next few weeks time when its swans or Stoke as own none.

        You?

No worries, I'm 5k with 33 transfers left - I had Mahrez and Payet captain last week so got lucky really. I've got Coates too which isn't ideal! He's going to have to for Cathcart. I agree about a swans player being important for the captaincy in a few weeks - I guess Ayew is the obvious choice.

My plan this week was to transfer out Payet for Aguero as captain, but am tempted to keep Payet now for the next few, now he's playing in the hole. Should probably get Aguero in for someone though if he's fit, as 18% have the captain on him - so that's another transfer.

I wouldn't worry about your rank at this stage, it's all quite tight, you're probably only 40 points off the top 5-7k - and that's just one good captain shout away.

          Best of luck this week!

Doing well considering. Especially as early doors there will be loads that have used a lot of transfers. How do you find captain percentages? Is that on the site somewhere?

Aguero could explode at any point but also blank again, tough one. I have him, maybe also the reason I'm. It doing great. I need this to be my week though. Benteke captain NEEDS to work.

Sako is a much greater rotation risk than Bolasie. I'd sit on it for a few weeks to see how things shake out. Then take your pick of Puncheon, Bolasie and Sako when things are clearer.

seems like a lot of people are still pondering over Pedro replacements so thought I'd repost this

seeing a lot of Coutinho love, well is he really worth it? Coutinho is not worth it at 8.1 despite his attractive looking next two fixtures, he lacks the cold numbers to back it up. his tangible product is really not that much, when it comes off it looks good (like the goal against Stoke, last season goals against Southampton and Man City, etc.), but it doesn't come off too often.

he got 5 goals and 7 assists the entire last season (and blanks bar that Stoke goal this) which is not enough for me when the likes of Payet (7.6) and Ayew (7.3) are doing so well with cheaper prices, would even consider the likes of Wijnaldum (6.9, 2.7%), Lens (6.5, 0.8%) and Shaqiri (7.0, 3.2%) over him with very good upcoming fixtures who are also good differentials with low ownership. next 5 games for the aforementioned three -

Wijnaldum - WAT, CHE, mci, NOR, sun
Lens - bou, mun, WHU, wba, NEW
Shaqiri - LEI, BOU, avl, swa, WAT

and then for those who are going Pedro > Coutinho there are the fixtureproof likes of Mata and Toure who although are a price bracket or two above Coutinho, are still cheaper than Pedro.

not to mention that Liverpool have generally looked awful and have only scored three goals in five games, with them one offside goal and two worldies unlikely to be repeated often.

Not touching Sunderland or Newcastle. Already have Diouf, not doubling up on Stoke. Already have Gomis, not doubling up. Not bringing in Payet for an away fixtures at the Etihad.

Coutinho it is. It's a differential for a few weeks, not a long term move. If he gets 2 of his season goal tally in the next 2 it will be well worth it. Of course it's a risk as he's inconsistent and Liverpool haven't been very good but for me the potential reward is worth it.

Newcastle fixtures are very good, two plum home and Chelsea who always struggle at St James' in the next 5 with an away game at Sunderland, City away is the only poor fixture there, Sunderland as well I would say only United away is not a good fixture for them.

Guys, I have a little problem here. I currently have £0.5m ITB.

This week, is Chadli's final week in my team and I am planning to sell him next week. West Ham have Norwich then Sunderland (after City) therefore I really want Payet. I still have my FT this week. So should I do:

    A) Gomis to Diouf then Chadli to Payet next week 🙂
I also have Ayew in my team

    B) Keep Gomis, Save FT. Next week, Sanchez + Chadli to Silva/KDB and Payet

Any thoughts on wether or not Gomez will start on Sunday if he's playing in that weakened line up tonight?

Him and Moreno are both playing so I don't think it helps at all unfortunately.

Payet has 3 goals from 3 shots on target

    Not sure that is sustainable

He creates a sh!t load of chances though

Got Ruddy and Huth I want rid of as well though

I'm not sold on keeping Mane either tbh GB

        considering something like

Ruddy, Huth, Mane to Bego, Dawson and Shaqiri for -4 next week

Only other option is hang onto to one of them for a couple more weeks

But with Moses now, Payet will be more likely to play in the hole. His numbers are very impressive.

I can see this week being exactly the same as every weekend on here so far this season

People moaning that they (C)aptained Aguero again vs Players who were more maverick with Mahrez/Wilson/Kolarov (C) loving life

Live a little and look away from Aguero people! He will almost definitely have limited game time and are playing in inform westham who will park the bus for 90mins!

picking a captain this week seems a lot more difficult than usual, I've swapped it between about 5 different players already!

    Butland

    Kolarov Richards Francis (Bellerin Johnson)

    Sanchez Silva Mahrez Sinclair (Payet)

    Aguero Gomis Diouf

the armband is currently on Mahrez, the uncertainty around Aguero and Silva put me off captaining them, Mahrez seems in form... I think the east midlands derby will have goals in it so might take a chance and captain Sinclair at home to west brom!

I'm certainly tempted, I think West Ham will score though since they're in great form and City might be down after losing mid-week

If you're playing 3-5-2 is it worth going for someone like Ighalo as your third striker or is it better to just go for a 4.5m non playing striker.

    1. Bøss â
      • 13 Years
      10 years, 6 months ago

It's probably worth getting a budget striker with the potential of scoring as you'll be able to rotate with your weaker 5th mid depending on fixtures

      1. Bøss â
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 6 months ago

especially since the expensive mids aren't firing so you don't need to free up the funds with a none playing striker

    2. A.T
      • 15 Years
      10 years, 6 months ago

I'd prefer a playing one but it's not essential. When playing 3-4-3 you'd usually have a crap 5th mid so I see no difference. A couple of playing defenders would be a must though.
