This afternoon we publish our usual pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders according to the votes cast in our Captain Poll. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (53%) reclaims the top spot in our Captain Poll ahead of Manchester City’s home tie against Newcastle United. Although the 13.2-priced forward has recorded five successive league blanks, his owners will be hoping he can kick on after scoring a midweek Champions League winner against Wolfsburg.

The favourable nature of the Sky Blues’ match-up finds Kevin De Bruyne – who’s netted in three of his four starts since arriving from Wolfsburg – sitting in silver-medal position with 10% of the votes. Fit-again David Silva (2%) also makes an appearance, given that the Magpies have conceded twice in five of the first seven Gameweeks.

Dimitri Payet lies in third place for the second successive Gameweek, with 7% of voters liking the Frenchman’s chances away to Sunderland, bearing in mind that the Wearsiders have conceded more goals (16) than any team so far. Payet has delivered attacking returns in all but two of his starts this campaign, underlining the consistency of his output. Diafra Sakho is backed by only 1% of the voters despite notching in three of the four Gameweeks, including strikes on the road against Liverpool and City.

Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy are both backed by 4% of voters as Leicester prepare to lock horns with Norwich at Carrow Road. The former has served up five double-figure hauls already, while the latter netted five goals in his previous four outings. The Canaries have yet to register a single clean sheet in the first seven Gameweeks.

Despite bagging a hat-trick last time out against Leicester, Alexis Sanchez scooped just 3% of the votes as Arsenal entertain a United side that’s conceded just five goals this term.

Notching a brace against Aston Villa in just his second league start since vacating the treatment room, Daniel Sturridge has encouraged 1% of to hand him the armband for the Merseyside derby, given that hosts Everton have yet to record a home clean sheet.

Anthony Martial (1%) – who sat atop the summit last Gameweek – plummets down the rankings by virtue of the Red Devils’ much more challenging match-up. The Gunners have conceded just two goals in their home clashes this term, yet the former Monaco frontman looks in fine fettle and has produced points in all three of his appearances so far.

    With the Kaboul news, presumably Coates gets a start this week. Given this, which would you start?

    A) Huth (nor)
    B) Coates (WHU)

    Head says Huth, but LEI and NOR are both so attacking that I can see both team scoring, and therefore perhaps Coates is, somewhat depressingly, my best option?

      I'd play Huth.. More chance of attacking returns and I'd fancy Norwich to blank over West Ham with Sakho, Payet etc in such form.

        Not really. You cant say exactly how many. There is possibility that every Sanchez owner has Aguero and Hazard, so Sanchez ownership would be the percentage that you are looking for. It is extremely unlikely but I just showed you an example that makes our result useless.

    Pedro -> Silva/Walcott (-4)

    Fully expect to be trolled by Jose, but there is enough doubt there to have me concerned about Pedro starting this week. And then there is Silva's fixtures and Wally's stats.

    Lots of talk about mounting pressure on Rodgers.
    Shirley there'd be no point sacking Rodgers now if there's no real replacement available? It's not as if the squad is really good enough for the top 4 anyway

      • 15 Years

      It's all paper talk. The hardest part is finding someone who is decent that will allow his career to be put in the hands of suits who are fans at best, decieding who his transfers will be. Laughable set up really.

      • 13 Years

      But there is a replacement, Klopp is available and willing. Not saying they should do it, but I think half the pressure on Rodgers is because a lot of fans and the media have had their heads turned by Jurgen.

    Repost

    In a bit of trouble this week with injuries piling up looking for help

    1 FT
    .7M ITB

    Mingolet (Schmeichel)
    Kolarov Azpilicueta, Cresswell (Kompany, Gomez)
    Sanchez, Walcott, Mahrez, Payat (c) (Yaya)
    Kone Benteke (Wilson)

    with 2 long term injuries and Kompany and Yaya out for the week as I am going to take a -4 (looking long term beyond this week). I plan to use my FT for Benteke --> Vardy but where is the best spot to use the -4

    A) Wilson --> Ighalo
    B) Wilson ---> someone else
    C) Yaya --> Mata or Pedro
    D) Kompany --> Darmian

    Armband on Payat this week?

        That seems definitive, but do you agree with above? Possibly over Amavi?

      He seems very down to earth, considering he's a footballing gift from the gods

    Afternoon. Help needed on my defence. Have aspi, Sagna, Gomez, targett and Oxford. 2 free transfers. Obviously last three aren't playing so I have to downgrade Aspi to free up cash. The question is to whom and which of the three non players should I upgrade first and to who? Any thoughts appreciated.

      Sell Gomez and save a FT. Plenty of options around 4.5

      KDB - more of a goalscorer and not injury prone.
