Gameweek 8 saw two more players topple off the Suspension Tightrope as we head into the second international break of the season. Sunderland centre-back Sebastian Coates was the first guilty party after earning his fifth yellow of 2015/16 in the second half of yesterday’s home draw against West Ham.

Coates will now miss the Black Cats’ trip to West Brom next time out as the Wearsiders prepare for life without Dick Advocaat after the Dutchman resigned earlier today.

This afternoon, Coates was joined by Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has now been booked in five of the first eight league matches in his new central midfield role. The 10%-owned defender, who had been drafted in by over 25,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prior to today’s caution, will now miss the Gameweek 9 home encounter with Liverpool.

Despite losing those two to suspension, the Tightrope now boasts ten faces – three more than last weekend.

Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Jack Colback, Billy Jones and Dele Alli all remain on four yellows and are joined by five new entries this time round. City pair Eliaquim Mangala and Fernandinho incurred the referee’s wrath in yesterday’s 6-1 romp over Newcastle at the Etihad, whilst West Ham’s Mark Noble is another fresh recruit after collecting a yellow card in the 2-2 stalemate at Sunderland.

Oriol Romeu is also added to the mix. The midfielder picked up his fourth caution in as many league starts for Southampton against former club Chelsea yesterday – he’s managed that feat in just 371 minutes of top-flight action. Earlier today, United full-back Matteo Darmian found his way into the referee’s notebook in the 3-0 loss to Arsenal.

The weekend brought further woe for the Black Cats, with Jeremain Lens set to miss the Gameweek 9 trip to the Hawthorns. The Dutchman – whose goal in yesterday’s draw means he played a part in five of the Wearsiders’ eight goals under Advocaat – was dismissed after receiving cautions for fouls on Carl Jenkinson and Winston Reid either side of the half-time break against the Hammers.

In terms of newly available players, Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Watford’s Valon Behrami and Everton wide man Kevin Mirallas are all in the frame in Gameweek 9 after they served the last of three-match bans for violent conduct this weekend.

I miss Boydinho's heroics. Those 5-9 pointers were so clutch when your players got hurt.

Now I'm stuck with Westwood giving me 1-2 pts when he comes in as a sub.

    Butland
    Kolarov | Dawson | Huth
    Sanchez | KDB | Mane | Mahrez
    Aguero | Gomis | Sakho

    Fletcher | Richards | Cathcart

    0.7M

Tempted by Fletcher --> Morrison, with AOA played this week.

Weirdest suggestion I've seen in a while.

Just get rid of Huth, Gomis, or Sakho IMO.

in gw11, what would be the ideal front 3 fixture wise, i reckon Aguero - Lukaku - Pelle.

    1. Fitzy.
      11 years, 19 days ago

Martial also with great fixtures around then, but 4 into 3 won't go, so I'd be looking at the 3 you suggest.

Sorry chaps my ramble on last page was a bit confusing..

    Butland McCarthy
    Kolarov Darmian Gomez Ward Richards
    Alexis Pedro Payet Mahrez Westwood
    Aguero Lukaku Gomis

    A) Darmian + Pedro > KDB + Gabriel / Janmaat (-4)
    B) Pedro + Gomis > Mane + Pelle (-4)

    Cheers.

Took a massive hit yesterday, 16 points, there was just to many players I needed to bring in. Do you think that this will pay off - Ruddy, Kola, Zouma, Westwood, Sterling, Coutinho will be outscored by Hennessey, Davies, Brende H, Sanchez, Mane, KDB?

I think I will probably just press the WC button....

        Hennessy, Butland
        BDavies, Hangeland, Williams, Cedric, Huth
        Mane, Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez, KDB
        Aguero, Pelle, Bojan

          11 years, 19 days ago

I understand you've tried to enable a strong from 8, but that's a very lightweight defence there.

Doubts of the future nailedness (if that's a word) of Bavies and Hanger, and I'm trying get Huth out of my team, not scoring me anything!!

Up front, awesome! Same midfield as me, although I have Vardy/Ighalo insread of Pelle/Bojan

I've had an annoying (casual) mate in my ML, ahead of me all season, mouthing off for weeks how good a manager he is. He's now ruing the lack of Aguero, Sanchez, KDB, Payet, you name it... Not even got Hazard!

    Hi all

Been away for a while - now back to a magnificent GW score (as everyone else I see!)

Hope someone can clarify a few things for me:

    - Kelly or Hangeland now nailed? Or are Ward and Delaney taking them spots when they're back?
    - Davies nailed - or Rose soon coming into play?
    - Hennessey nailed? If so - a steal
    - Any news on Evans injury?

Need to take a hit to bring in KDB... Should I:

    - Mata & Butland -> KDB & Hennessey -4
    - Mata & Gomez -> KDB & Hangeland/Kelly -4
    - Not any of the above

    Cheers all 🙂

      - They should take their spots back.
      - Not sure
      - Solid performance till now..
      - Nope, but Chester Might start the next one.

United has tough fixtures...and if you have a nailed on second keeper in case Hennessey doesn't start then Mata & Butland makes sense..

I think my defence can cover any game time concern over Gabriel.

All good to save this week lads?

    Fabianski
    Kolarov, Cedric, Azpi
De Bruyne, Payet, Mane, Mahrez, Fletcher
    Aguero, Ighalo, Vardy

    4.4 ITB 1FT. Cheers 🙂

I would swap Igloo for Pelle.

Lucky goal and Pelle has fixtures.

Yeah something I thought about but it's tough, all four of my midfielders are performing

            11 years, 19 days ago

Mahrez was benched and they won. Might start on the bench again next game.

      2. Nickofoz
        11 years, 19 days ago

Could do but I have Mane to cover Southampton, not a transfer I desperately need to make IMO

    2. Postman Ty
      11 years, 19 days ago

why do you have fletcher with 4.4 ITB, why not an upgrade to sanchez/mata or pelle/martial/sturridge. surely the bench cant be very strong?

      1. Nickofoz
        11 years, 19 days ago

Yeah I do have the option of upgrading him, but that'll give me a benching headache each week which I'm not too fond of

        1. Puyol Pants Up
          11 years, 19 days ago

I never understood the need to upgrade your 5th mid/3rd striker (3-5-2)

          Makes no sense to me.

          1. Postman Ty
            11 years, 19 days ago

and that's why my rank is better than yours 😉 this week mahrez was benched out of nowhere and naughton wasnt even on the team sheet for personal reasons, so i had a 9 point ighalo and 6 point ritchie subbed on. the week before i had a similar scenario with silva injured and my bench scoring big and subbing on. outside of that it also significantly reduces the need for transfers and offers more rotation options based on form or fixtures. having a full team, or close to it, is huge.

            1. Puyol Pants Up
              11 years, 19 days ago

I still disagree, if you downgrade your 5th mid/3rd striker to a cheapie that plays, they will get you points anyway. You could use the cash saved to upgrade the other players in your team.

              1. Nickofoz
                11 years, 19 days ago

                I agree, PPU.

                11 years, 19 days ago

fair point, but then how do you combat transfer needs? you limit your flexibility.

        2. Postman Ty
          11 years, 19 days ago

a benching headache? you would really rather lose points than have extra points on the bench? and back ups for any injury or surprise. worst case scenario your bench player does good and might even rise in value, which is good. best case you can take advantage of rotating fixtures and form and have a safety net.

          1. The 12th Man
            11 years, 19 days ago

This is why I went for Hoolahan instead of Westwood as my 5th MF.

Completely agree. I was talked out of investing a little in my 5th mid/3rd striker at the start of the season, which is my usual MO (a flexible 343/352 formation), and the number of times I've had to us my subs this year... Very happy with my transfer this week.

I've finally got rid of Westwood for Mane. Now THAT's an upgrade!! 😀

If your happy then yeh gtg.
I'd be tempted to shift Mahrez for Sanchez.

Dg Maybe Azpi to get the extra cash.
          Who is on your bench?

          1. Nickofoz
            11 years, 19 days ago

Bassong and Francis are my two benched defenders. Hard to sell Azpi before AVL at home though

I scored 95 points without captaining Aguero.

    I survived!

The "right" keeper and captain choices would have rounded it up to 110, but I'm really not complaining.

KDB. He was my differential captain last week and it worked, so I thought I'd better go for the one in form rather than the misfiring favourite. Safe to say, the armband is now firmly on Aguero for next week...

This site always puts you down when you think you got an amazing score!

Thoughts on where I can improve?

    De Gea - *McCarthy*
    *Zouma* - Kolarov - Dawson - Jenkinson - Richards
    Mata - Mahrez - Sanchez - Payet - *Westwood*
    Aguero - Vardy - Pelle

    * = Wanting to improve on. I currently have 1.2m ITB

    1) Do I take a hit for Zouma --> Arsenal (Gabriel OR Bellerin)

    2) Who to upgrade Westwood too? Looking to put a plan in action over the coming weeks, but I tend to play a 3-4-3 weekly anyway. So do I even need too make a change there?

    3) Happy to leave McCarthy for the time being, he might come back between the sticks but happy with De Gea for now, even with the run of fixtures!!

    4) Thoughts on Zouma --> Gabriel leaving me 1.7 itb to help upgrade Westwood!

    Any help would be appreciated!!
