Alexis Sanchez remains a doubt for Chile with a groin problem. Andre Ayew withdraws from Ghana duties, Wes Hoolahan is a worry for the Republic of Ireland, whilst Stoke skipper Ryan Shawcross steps up his recovery from a back injury.

Sanchez Concern for Chile

Alexis Sanchez is a doubt for Chile’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil due to a minor groin complaint sustained against United on Sunday, according to manager Jorge Sampaoli:

“Neither Vidal nor Alexis are confirmed for the Brazil game. Neither player has been in full training since travelling to join the Chile squad this week.”

The Scout Says: With five goals in his last two starts, Sanchez’s exceptional underlying stats are finally being translated into explosive Fantasy returns after he managed just one assist in the opening six league matches. Over the past four Gameweeks, the Chilean livewire ranks top among midfielders for attempts (21), while only Theo Walcott has tallied more shots inside the box (17 compared to 16) and attempts on target (10 to seven). Over 166,000 managers drafted in the 11.2-priced midfielder after his hat-trick against Leicester, whilst 155,000+ have acquired his services after the brace against United. Sanchez’ 22% owners will be hoping for positive news when the teamsheets are announced later tonight, then, with Chile set to face Brazil just after midnight.

Ayew withdraws from Ghana squad

Andrew Ayew is still feeling the effects of a knock he picked up during Swansea’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur so did not travel with the Ghana squad to face off against USA on Wednesday.

The Scout Says: Much to the frustration of 110,000 owners that shipped him out in the last two rounds of fixtures, Ayew netted his first goal in four outings against Spurs. The former Marseille man registered just three key passes and one attempt on target between Gameweek 5-7 yet his return to form sees him sit fifth in the midfield standings so far. Providing he recovers in time, Ayew’s 21% ownership will be optimistic of further returns ahead of a schedule that pits the Swans against Stoke, Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth in the next five matches.

Hoolahan concern for Ireland

Wes Hoolahan is a doubt for the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Germany later today after sitting out Tuesday’s training session. Assistant manager Roy Keane revealed that the Norwich City midfielder picked up a problem during Saturday’s home loess to Leicester:

“Wes has a knock on his heel from the weekend and it’s pretty sore. The fact he didn’t train today tells you it must be sore. I think with Wes’ injury another 24 hours will make a big difference to it.”

The Scout Says: If not for his considerable rotation risk, the 5.2-priced Hoolahan – who’s bagged one goal and five assists across 504 minutes – would surely boast an ownership that far exceeds 5.5%. Unfortunately, Alex Neil has displayed a willingness to drop one of his top attacking assets depending on the nature of the match-up, with Hoolahan most recently rooted to the bench at Liverpool in Gameweek 6. Nonetheless, those in possession of the 33-year-old playmaker will feel confident in retaining him for the next two Gameweeks (new, WBA) at least, given that the Magpies shipped 12 goals in their previous four outings, while the Baggies conceded nine across their quartet of home clashes.

Shawcross steps up recovery

Ryan Shawcross clocked 45 minutes for Stoke City’s U21 outfit as they drew 1-1 against Port Vale last night. Discussing his comeback with the local press, the Potters skipper is keen to build up more minutes over the international break:

“It was always planned to play 45 minutes. I’ve got a few niggles just from coming back so I need to let them settle down and hopefully I can kick on again next week. “I felt good. It’s just a case of building on it now. Hopefully next week I can get a 70-minute game in and then move on to a full game in the coming weeks. It’s up to the manager to see when I can get back involved. I haven’t trained with the first team yet so I’ll look forward to doing that. But I will stay with the under-21s for probably another week or so. It’s all about game time and then we’ll see after that. At the moment I’m trying to make sure I get the right minutes and the training between them is right.”

The Scout Says: Aside from Jack Butland – who’s amassed nine save points and two bonus points – and, more recently, Glen Johnson (two assists in as many starts), the Potters’ rearguard has proved to be lean on Fantasy returns. Mark Hughes’ men only claimed their first clean sheet of the campaign last time out against Aston Villa and have conceded more big chances (22) than any side, highlighting their lack of resilience in Shawcross’ absence. After three months on the sidelines, it remains to be seen whether Shawcross (priced at 4.8) will prove his fitness in time for the Gameweek 9 trip to Swansea, though the following two fixtures (WAT, new) bodes well, given that Watford and Newcastle are amongst the joint-lowest scorers in the league, with just six goals apiece.

Dummett and Haidara back in training

Defenders Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara could return to the matchday squad for Newcastle’s home tie against Norwich next Gameweek.

The Scout Says: With Daryl Janmaat nursing a knee knock and third-choice left-back Kevin Mbabu sustaining a hamstring during the Toon’s 6-1 defeat to Manchester City, Steve McClaren will be encouraged by yesterday’s news after a poor start to the season. Newcastle’s defence as a whole have produced little for Fantasy managers to get excited about, save for Janmaat’s unparalleled goal threat – he ranks top among his counterparts shot on target (six) – despite facing six of last season’s top eight sides already. With an excellent run of fixtures (NOR, sun, STO, bou, LEI, cry, LIV, tot, AVL) now on their agenda, the likes of Janmaat could appear on our radars should the Magpies’ main men prove their fitness, as McClaren attempts to steer his side out of the bottom three.

Anya sidelined for Scotland

Ikechi Anya will play no part in Scotland’s match-up against Poland later tonight after failing to shake off a calf complaint that forced him off at Bournemouth in Saturday.

The Scout Says: Serving up zero goals and two assists, Watford’s midfield – which is comprised of six members who have clocked at least 300 minutes – has seldom generated discussion among the FFScout community this season. Certainly, Almen Abdi has looked the most likely to deliver attacking returns over the past four Gameweeks, amassing six shots and 14 key passes – only three midfielders created more chances over that period. Valued at just 4.8, the Switzerland international threatens to be a profitable budget pick-up if the Hornets can improve their scoring output.

Deulofeu impresses on Spain duty

Gerard Deulofeu bagged two assists for Spain U21s as they ran out 5-2 victors over Georgia in their European Championship qualification match.

The Scout Says: Deulofeu muscled his way into Everton’s starting line-up for their last two outings, having initially impressed during a 26-minute cameo against Swansea in Gameweek 6. In his first start of the campaign, the ex-Barcelona winger teed up Romelu Lukaku on two occasions as the Toffees came from behind to record a 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion. Deulofeu lasted just 59 minutes in the Merseyside derby, though, with Aaron Lennon taking his spot on the flank. With Arouna Kone also in the mix and Kevin Mirallas now free from suspension, Deulofeu faces a tough task to retain the role on the Everton right, with playmaker Ross Barkley looking the most secure option as the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 11 onwards.

Or is it best to have Mane & say non-playing 4.3 striker (Hooper) and use 0.5 on upgrading other (defensive) positions?

Player value shows that premium players (over 9-10M) are only worth the outlay if you're going to captain them now and then.

Therefore, surely it's bad idea to have both Aguero and KdB in your team. You would almost always captain Aguero over KdB if City have a good fixture.

I think it makes more sense to just have two big hitters and upgrade the rest of your team. Or have three premium players from three different teams in order to rotate captaincy according to fixtures.

    What do you all think?

It would certainly seem like a good risk management technique. Unless you use transfers to rotate the squad position you maybe have earmarked for the second strong player. KDB did very well last week. You would have missed out. Who would you have had in his spot?

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

It wouldn't be the case of swapping KdB for one particular player. Missing out on any KdB points would be compensated by the points brougth in by other players who you would have otherwise been unable to afford.

Fair enough. I do agree with the principle but you do have to still select the right players to compensate you for someone who has scored - 10,7,15.

That is a lot of points to find somewhere and it all comes down to your selections of replacement.

KDB is in hot form no doubt... but you can't have them all. I decided to go without him as I won't captain him anyway and have Pelle and Vardy in attack. I couldn't afford them both if I had KDB. so Pele plus Vardy versus KDB and some bench fodder = more or less the same points.

That's what I think also... Only Aguero and Sanchez and maybe Wacott when completely nailed on, seems to be really good captaincy option.

I used to give the armband to Silva for example but it never worked.

But if Hazard goes nuts too are you saying its wise not to have him aswell as Sanchez and Aguero?

No, that would be another option. I'm saying it makes little sense to have KdB in your team because you'll always end up captaining Aguero. By having three premium players from three different teams, who could rotate the captaincy and thus justify pay that much money for them.

        1. Paulie Walnuts
          • 10 Years
          10 years, 3 months ago

The points KDB has over other midfielders is worth the extra surely especially if he continues this way...

But as you said in your reply the "another option" to get Hazard in once you have spread all of your money is going to take a few moves...

I understand what you are saying and it makes sense but i personally think it makes sense to go for the best players in terms of points you can afford.

      I don't agree with you.

I think it's a proven and obvious fact that Manchester City are the best attacking team in the country and that too by a country mile, doubling up on them is not a bad idea at all, especially with the kind of fixtures they have right now.

At KdB's price, there is no other better player who's getting those points, those that are, you can easily own them while owning KdB.

This is a very good point. I've had KDB since he turned up so not too fussed about his cost when he's had such brilliant returns, but will look to ship him towards the end of City's good run of fixtures. Will probably be able to afford Hazard by then!

Why would you want Diouf on a WC?? Vardy is a popular option here, get Pelle instead of mane for example, and that defence is weak for a WC imo

I think you have to downgrade that midfield - its hard as its a decent midfield but its having an effect on the rest of your team - maybe mane > wanyama and diouf > Pelle

but your defence is still weak - Wolly not guarenteed starter - huth lets in too many - kolarov will be rotated when clichy is back

      Can't look past Butland>Myhill.

Um, not a fan of Huth, Hangeland and Wolly in defense as well.

And regarding your attack, maybe sacrifice Mane [or payet?] to upgrade Pelle if you don't have anything ITB. Could also help upgrade your defense as well.

Hi all, so I need to get shoot of Diouf and really need some Soton coverage over the next few weeks, the only way I can fund it is downgrading Kol to a 4.5m defender. Is that madness? With Clichy soon to return and Kol not firing, I think it could work out - any thoughts greatly received!

Sterling is your first priority to be removed. Gomis has good fixtures but if he blanks against Stoke then he can go.

    sorting out my defence

I've decided to get in a Arse Defender for Huth first - As Arse has a easier fixture than Saints for the next 2 games IMO.
    Then Kolarov out for Berty

Plus.. my rivals in my ML have mostly got Cech. So any points he gets, I'd match and more.

    Question is

Who is best/more nailed LONG TERM

    A/ Monreal
    B/ Bellerin

    Thanks

I think both are nailed. But Bellerin moreso as Debuchy is a far worse back-up than Gibbs IMO.

I was considering Kolarov>Bertrand myself but that's the thing with planned transfers. They hardly work out.

What folk think to my wc team..intention of playing 5 3 2 alternating between ayoze and ighalo

    Hennesy butland
    Simpson bellerin jaanmat cedric hangeland

    Sanchez mahrez wally mane KDB

    KUN Ayoze Ighalo

Not the best defence I know but cedric bellerin would play every week

Like a fair few on here, I'm baffled about the NEW fullback's popularity but I do concede he's getting points so I could very well be missing something. Hangeland's also on borrowed time in for Palace no?

Why not play 4-4-2? Especially with the MIDs you have.

They do have some really good games coming up and jaanmat looks like he going to get attacking return. .that's only feedback I can offer with that lol

        Sorry I actually meant 3 5 2

Wil hangeland lose his place.he been solid of late

def on 2 nailed, 1 no CS ever, 1 guy who thought he'd never XI this season, 1 not playing

Any room to shuffle wally and Perez around? Payet/Vardy?

When you put it like that mate you may have a valid point mate. I'll see if I can make that move but think it's just a bit too.much for a team with such sh*t TV

Hangeland isn't nailed on and I doubt you will play Janmaat every match.

    Greetings chaps!

After an upturn in fortunes over the last couple of weeks i'm left pondering how best to work some much needed Southampton attacking coverage into my team, whilst weeding out the dead wood likes of Martin Skrtel.

Here's my team as it stands, looking ahead to the upcoming gameweek...

    Butland / (McCarthy)

    Skrtel / Kolarov / Williams / (Muniesa) / (Targett)

    Coutinho / Montero / Hazard / Sanchez / Mahrez

    Aguero / Sakho / (Ighalo)

...I would love to ditch Sakho and Coutinho and replace them with Pelle and Mane, but regrettably I do not have the necessary funds in my bank and only 1 FT.

So, do i bite the bullet and burn 8 points, ditching Skrtel as a makeweight in the process?

Or, do i merely switch Coutinho for Mane, seeing as Sadio is a major differential?

Another option is Sakho and Coutinho for Pelle and Delle Alli over at Spurs...

Or... do i need another Man City player, Silva or KDB in for a big hitting midfielder?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated!

Sakho can stay. Consider either Mane or KDB without a hit will do.

Wouldn't necessarily double up on Southampton. It could definitely work, but also is kind of risky. I have gone with Mane personally, have nothing against Pelle but just fit my team better. I would suggest Coutinho to Mane, and maybe later you could do Skrtel to Bertrand/Cedric/VVD.

Not sure why....got him for 8m....seems a great way into the United forward line...cheaper than mata....I'm keeping....

Nope. I am keeping, though I saw this coming. 1 goal, he is in. 1 blank he is out. That's how most worked on Martial on here

thinking of getting delafeu for mahrez, is that sensible due to his last performances and mahrez's tactical benching?

Nope. Delofeu isn't a goal scoring midfielder, Mahrez is and still holds a 54% ownership. 1 goal and you're behind 54% of the game by Mahrez's points every GW already.
