Fully refreshed after the international break, we take our usual pre-Gameweek look at the Sky Sports game and assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and transfer trends, before casting an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 9 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Crystal Palace vs West BromWilfried Zaha
Aston Villa vs StokeMarko Arnautovic
Bournemouth vs WatfordHeurelho Gomes
Man City vs NewcastleSergio Aguero
Norwich vs LeicesterJamie Vardy
Sunderland vs West HamOla Toivonen
Chelsea vs SouthamptonSadio Mane
Everton vs LiverpoolRomelu Lukaku
Arsenal vs Man UnitedAlexis Sanchez
Swansea vs TottenhamChristian Eriksen

One goalkeeper, five midfielders and four forwards made up the awards in the previous Gameweek. Romelu Lukaku and Marko Arnautovic have earned the accolade in back to back outings as their impressive form continues. The game’s two most heavily owned forwards, Sergio Aguero (40.7%) and Alexis Sanchez (20.9%), will have made a significant dent in rank for those who went without, whilst Lukaku (14.9%) and Jamie Vardy (12.7%) were also in the top six most owned frontmen in what was a bumper week for the popular players.

Gameweek 9 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers picked up bonus – Heurelho Gomes was the star of the show after making six saves to add two bonus points to his penalty save and MoTM award, earning him ten points. Alex McCarthy, Jack Butland and, somewhat surprisingly, Petr Cech are the current leaders in the bonus stakes, with eight additional points apiece.

In defence, 11 players grabbed bonus, ten for tackles and one for passes completed. Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta came closest to earning both, just missing out on two extra bonus by five completed passes. Full-backs in general are dominating right now, with five on eight bonus points.

In midfield, there were 13 beneficiaries in total: eight for tackling and five for passes. Budget midfielder Idrissa Gueye (5.7) was the closest to grabbing both, missing out by just one completed tackle. Cesc Fabregas is the game’s highest bonus earner overall, with 16 points so far.

Jamie Vardy may be leading the scoring charts in the Premier League but he also managed to chip in with tackling bonus this week to fly the flag for the forwards.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Sergio Aguero’s hamstring injury has sparked a massive exodus, with over 25% of the transfers out involving the Argentine. Liverpool’s Joe Gomez looks set to miss the rest of the season, though Andre Ayew is expected to recover from the knock that forced him to withdraw from the Ghana squad. Yaya Toure and David Silva go into the weekend as doubts for City and have also been subject to significant sales.

The Aguero injury has seen many turn to Alexis Sanchez, in light of the Chilean’s five goals in the last two league matches. Forward lines have been restructured over the break, with Romelu Lukaku, Jamie Vardy and Graziano Pelle’s form looking difficult to ignore. Kevin de Bruyne’s stunning form makes him the most sought-after midfielder over the break.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. Notes
Finally, the Gameweek my team has been crying out for fell into my lap and saw me rise in rank by 19,000 places to just outside the top 1,000, after earning 151 points. Sadio Mane (16 points) and Heurelho Gomes (10) are honourable mentions but the bulk of my points were due to Sergio Aguero (64) and Alexis Sanchez (34) as captains – the stuff of dreams.

I also did the unthinkable and subbed out Eden Hazard for Theo Walcott and although it paid off, with Walcott grabbing two assists against United, it is a scary prospect moving forward without the Belgian, given his 249 points last season. In the past we have seen players we thought were untouchable after a great season suddenly become, at best, mediocre options with Robin Van Persie the obvious example – however, in the Dutchman’s case, you could at least point to his advancing years and the change of manager. As far as Hazard is concerned, it’s surely just a matter of time before he rediscovers his form and, for my sake, I just hope it’s not this week at home to Aston Villa.

The other major talking point to rear its head is Sergio Aguero’s injury which, as you could expect, has serious repercussions to my team and even future captain plans. At this point I see no point holding him, given his likely length of absence and although I’ll undoubtedly want him back in at some point, meaning two transfers, I’m just going to have to take it on the chin. I’m still not sure who I will draft in in his place but, at present, Graziano Pelle, Diego Costa and even Daniel Sturridge are tempting me.

Captain Plan
My captain this Saturday would, of course, have been Sergio Aguero prior to his injury but now it’s a toss-up between Alexis Sanchez and Sadio Mane. I’ll have to make the decision tonight due to the deadline and currently the Chilean is the front runner.

I won’t have a captain in the sole match on Sunday but will swap the armband to Andre Ayew for Monday night football as Swansea host Stoke at the Liberty stadium. That works out pretty well as Swansea play on Saturday the following week away to Aston Villa.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and were sitting fifth in the rankings at present. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 18:30 SkySports 1 HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football and asking former England centre-back Sol Campbell for his #One2Eleven.

MCY with and without Silva this season:

    WITH:
    6 wins from 6 games
    16 Goals (2.7 per game)

    WITHOUT:
1 win* and 2 losses from 3 games
    3 goals (1 per game)

    * via a scrambled last minute goal

This is what worries me about bringing in MCY attack this week.

Not sure a sample size of 9 is relevant. There was a hot topic about this though already by Balders I think and it had a much larger sample size, suggesting that City score goals under all circumstances, potentially with even less problem now that KDB is in the team and can directly replace Silva.

Ah, haven't seen that - will look it up.

I think 8 games is a reasonable sample size though - more than 1/5th of a season.

This is why I put Pelle in for Kun and don't consider Mahrez or Pedro > KDB worth the risk this week seeing as both are fit to play.

Only changes I would make are:

Good Afternoon my fantasy footballing brethren!

With so many players picking up injuries over the past fortnight I get the impression that many managers will be burning points ahead of GW9.

I've never been adverse to burning points if it means improving my team for the next 3-5 coming game weeks, but for the most part I aim to avoid siphoning off hard earned points, willy nilly.

I have 3 different ways of approaching this coming game week and my favourite involves a monstrous 12 point hit.

    My team as it stands:

    Butland // (McCarthy)

    Skrtel // Williams // Kolarov // (Muniesa) // (Targett)

    Hazard // Sanchez // Montero // Coutinho // (Mahrez)

    Aguero // Ighalo // Sakho

    ...so, do i go with:

    A) -4

    Coutinho >> Mane
    Aguero >> Costa

    B) -4

    Coutinho >> De Bruyne
    Ageuro >> Pelle

    ooooor C) -12 (!!)

Kolarov >> Souare (or any other 4.5m defender)
    Coutinho >> De Bruyne
    Aguero >> Costa
    Sakho >> Pelle

In a week when points will be burnt, is a 12 point hit still the incoherent ramblings of a mad-man?

I'm backing Chelsea to turn a corner against Villa, but Costa AND Hazard may still be overkill, meaning i could just go with Pelle and De Bruyne for a -4?

Which option should it be, thank you for your time!

Daft you say, i think you're probably correct.

B is my favourite sensible option... Pelle and De Bruyne are both in scintillating form. And in Hazard i probably have ample Chelsea coverage.

        Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Ranieri said the Algeria international was unhappy with the decision, but that displayed the winger's hunger and he wants to see the same appetite from all his players.

"I don't like it when players are on the bench, in the stands or at home – and they're happy," said Ranieri.

"They might decide to stay at home with their family. No. I think they must be hungry.

"Riyad isn't happy. If he is, then I'm angry! "That's much better if he's hungry, and I'm happy.

Can we deduce that since Mahrez played in both friendlies, and provided an assist during the international break, his chances of starting this week are bettered?

Without looking at these sites I can roughly work out rises and fallers. Just add together or takeaway their transfers in and out since their last rise or fall and if they total around 70-80k then they have a high chance of changing This is only relevant for players who have 5% ownership or more, less than 5% ownership and you halve the transfers to 35-40k for a rise or fall. Works for me anyway. Hope this helps.

Yes i like that a lot.

Pelle the preferred option if you have a lot of transfers Lukaku if not as he looks good fixture wise for longer

Cheers for your help mate. Will go with pelle I think as that'll leave me with 27 transfers left but will defo look at getting lukaku in after his next two fixtures. This weekend is hazards last chance I think!

Struggling with the same as many others. What move is better?

    Butland, (McCarthy)
    Kolarov, Naughton, Dawson (Huth, Cook)
    Hazard, Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez, (Westwood)
    Aguero, Martial, Vardy

    Following ideas

    a) Aguero, westwood to KDB and Rondon/Ayoze (fixtures)
    b) Aguero, westwood to Mane and Bony/Pelle
    c) Aguero, Westwood to Sterling and Pelle
    d) other?

Aguero >Pelle and sit tight. No point taking hits when you have so many starters. Lots are 4 or points down before kick off this week...

    Butland (Krul)

    Kolarov Azpi Dawson Dann Bennett

    Pedro Ayew Payet Mahrez Ozil

    Aguero Martial Ighalo

    1 FT and 0.6 ITB?

What transfers would be suggested? Willing to take a -4 hit and a -8 at most, if necessary.

    Thanks.

What to do with this lot.

    Fabianski (STK)

Kolarov (BOU) (Is he likely to play?) Azpi (AVL Evans (SUN) (What is the news on him?)

KDB (BOU) (C) Payet (cry) Mahrez (sou) Ayew (STK)

Aguero* Martial (eve) Berahino (SUN) (VC)

    Bench: Cederic, Sako, Ward*

    (A) Kun>Pelle/Lukaku/Costa

    (B) -4 Sako>Alexis/Mane, bench Martial.

    (C) Both A and B, play AoA if I cannot field 3 defenders. TA

Probably completely irrelevant but my grandparents dog passed away recently 🙁 and they're looking for a new dog. I've been trying to persuade them to get an English Bulldog because it's my favourite breed 😀

    Myhill

    Kolarov*, Cedric, Huth

    Mahrez*, Sanchez*. Mane* Payet

    Pelle (c) Sakho Martial

    Rudd, Westwood, Prodl, Francis

    * = doubts to start

-4 already taken, thinking of a 2nd -4 to sell Francis to Bellerin and bench Huth. Francis has dreadful fixtures and Bournemouth have an injury crisis

Nah , ride it imo. Was thinking the same. Starting Morgan , so we're in much the same boat . Also wc gw 11. Fairly confident Kolarov ok , but will just take Francis , if not

Any other Costas out there doing a sudden swerve back to Pelle ?

Just realized Pelle in this week means Sanchez in on a free next week.
Costa in means Wally or the like in.

Sad to lose out on the rise , but does seem the way to go ?

    Payet, Sanchez (c), Mahrez, Pedro
    Kun*, Gomis, Pelle

    Schwarzer/ Surman/ Francis/ Targett. 1.4 ITB, 1FT

    A) Mun > Cedric
    B) Kun > Bony
