This afternoon we publish our usual pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders according to the votes cast in our Captain Poll. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

In the wake of Sergio Aguero’s projected four-week absence, Kevin De Bruyne – who converted two free-kicks for Belgium during the international break – sits atop the summit of our Captain Poll with 26% of the vote. The former Wolfsburg midfielder boasts three goals and two assists in his last trio of league starts and will fancy his chances at home to a Bournemouth outfit that’s notched just one clean sheet this campaign.

Alexis Sanchez (20%) is the second most popular captaincy choice. Although he travelled back from Peru on Thursday and has a crucial Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich in midweek, Sanchez is hard to ignore by virtue of his nine goals in five outings for club and country.

Graziano Pelle (15%) ranks top for total points (54) among all forwards this campaign ahead of Southampton’s home tie against Leicester. The aerially dominant frontman notched three goals and four assists in his previous three league starts and scored in his last outing for Italy. Sadio Mane (1%) joins him in the top ten, having chalked up two goals and three assists since Gameweek 6. Both players will be encouraged by the fact that the Foxes shipped ten goals in their previous four match-ups and have yet to register a clean sheet.

Diego Costa places fourth on his return from suspension with 6% of voters prioritising form over fixtures, given that the Spain international has recorded just one goal in six starts ahead of a home clash against Aston Villa. By that same token, Eden Hazard (4%) – who’s tallied one goal and two assists in his last three starts – could capitalise on the fact that the Villains conceded eight goals across their previous three road matches.

Daniel Sturridge has been backed by 4% of FFScout’s readership after bagging a brace in Gameweek 7. Jurgen Klopp’s first match at the helm pits Liverpool against a Tottenham Hotspur team that’s conceded a solitary goal in their last three showdowns at White Hart Lane. On the flip side, Harry Kane (3%) has netted just one goal in eight starts but will be emboldened in the knowledge that the Reds’ rearguard was breached ten times in the past five Gameweeks.

Even though he’s delivered attacking returns (three goals and two assists) in each of the last four Gameweeks, Dimitri Payet enjoys just 1% of the vote as West Ham United roll up at Crystal Palace. The twinkle-toed French playmaker locks horns with an Eagles backline that’s proved more resolute this campaign, conceding just two goals in their last four fixtures.

Kun and Mahrez out for > Pelle and KDB. - 12 total.
    Wise or no?

Would be an easier choice if it wasn't for my shocking defense. With the rest injured I am left with Dawson, Huth and Targett. Just think if I put Pelle and KDB their points might make up for my lack of defenders?

Wildcarded today. Really appreciate some feedback.

    Cech Elliot
(decided to go with the 1 keeper with minimum rotation; didn't manage to find 2 rotating keepers that I'm satisfied with)

    Sanchez KDB Payet Bolasie Wanyama
(Sanchez and KDB for form and fixtures, Payet for form and decent fixtures, Bolasie for a bit of a punt and decent fixtures, Wanyama as bench fodder)

    Costa Vardy Pelle
(Costa because of stats and good run of fixtures, Vardy for form, and Pelle for form and fixtures.

0.2ITB. Greatly appreciate all feedback! Thanks!

Could conceivably be better off going with Darlow over Elliot since he's now first choice (albeit injured for the next few weeks). Alternatively Hennessey?

No defence is a maverick move too 😉

      Rest looks good.

Intend to be playing Azpi + Walker with a 3-way rotation for the other 3 4.5 defenders

The spend at the back is quite significant.

Not sure about Ighalo but easily benchable in terms of decision making.

Think Lukaku looks red hot, and I'd be a bit wary that Coleman ain't exactly at his top level.

Yeah, I do agree with you. I just think that the Aguero cash has to go somewhere. I did have a cheaper defence, but the spare money ITB.

I'll get Luka in in 2 weeks, hopefully he won't do a lot until then.

I got Kolarov for 5.5 and he now costs 6.2. If I don't make a defensive transfer I could potentially being playing Azpi and Huth with no third defender (Evans)

Is it worth getting rid now and having a stronger defence this weekend? Is the Kolarov rotation highly likely going forward?

many people in the dilema of taking kolarov out for a -4 or playing players like richards huth etc (me included)

i see a lot of advice saying to play richards. richards is likely a 1 or 0 which means your hit is effectively a -2 compared to someone like bellarin. given the kolarov is out for at least 2 weeks, dont get how it is such a bad idea

Kolarov could be back next gameweek

Away at Man Utd? Not ususally a lucrative match for man City defenders. And then we're into Clichy rotation.

Go for it. A hit for defender is fine, as long as you can accept it may not pay off straight away (e.g. Bellerin conceding this GW)

I read (can't remember where - probably on here!) that Mane trained yesterday?

I really want to bring him in. Just need to get it out of my head he'll be rested.

1.play francis mci (most prob 0 ps)
    2.-4 Kolarov > Arsenal/Kompany/any other def

**already took a -4 hit. or stik to Francis, maybe he squeezes an assist

what if your 3rd defender is Francis mci...? play francis or take the hit -4? francis most prob will be 0pts. (unless he can squeeze an assist)

Very nice. Much more balanced that other WC teams I've seen and there's a few ways to easily get Aguero back in a months time.

Kolarov is out this week. Mahrez is merely a doubt as he didn't train (got back late). He may have trained today though, I don't know.
