This afternoon we publish our usual pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders according to the votes cast in our Captain Poll. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

In the wake of Sergio Aguero’s projected four-week absence, Kevin De Bruyne – who converted two free-kicks for Belgium during the international break – sits atop the summit of our Captain Poll with 26% of the vote. The former Wolfsburg midfielder boasts three goals and two assists in his last trio of league starts and will fancy his chances at home to a Bournemouth outfit that’s notched just one clean sheet this campaign.

Alexis Sanchez (20%) is the second most popular captaincy choice. Although he travelled back from Peru on Thursday and has a crucial Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich in midweek, Sanchez is hard to ignore by virtue of his nine goals in five outings for club and country.

Graziano Pelle (15%) ranks top for total points (54) among all forwards this campaign ahead of Southampton’s home tie against Leicester. The aerially dominant frontman notched three goals and four assists in his previous three league starts and scored in his last outing for Italy. Sadio Mane (1%) joins him in the top ten, having chalked up two goals and three assists since Gameweek 6. Both players will be encouraged by the fact that the Foxes shipped ten goals in their previous four match-ups and have yet to register a clean sheet.

Diego Costa places fourth on his return from suspension with 6% of voters prioritising form over fixtures, given that the Spain international has recorded just one goal in six starts ahead of a home clash against Aston Villa. By that same token, Eden Hazard (4%) – who’s tallied one goal and two assists in his last three starts – could capitalise on the fact that the Villains conceded eight goals across their previous three road matches.

Daniel Sturridge has been backed by 4% of FFScout’s readership after bagging a brace in Gameweek 7. Jurgen Klopp’s first match at the helm pits Liverpool against a Tottenham Hotspur team that’s conceded a solitary goal in their last three showdowns at White Hart Lane. On the flip side, Harry Kane (3%) has netted just one goal in eight starts but will be emboldened in the knowledge that the Reds’ rearguard was breached ten times in the past five Gameweeks.

Even though he’s delivered attacking returns (three goals and two assists) in each of the last four Gameweeks, Dimitri Payet enjoys just 1% of the vote as West Ham United roll up at Crystal Palace. The twinkle-toed French playmaker locks horns with an Eagles backline that’s proved more resolute this campaign, conceding just two goals in their last four fixtures.

    A) Play Dawson Francis Richards
    B) Take a hit to get someone for Gomez or Kolarov

        > AOA has no advantage in DGW, think about it

        How's this?
There's no benefit to us if we manage to field all DGW attackers?

          Why not a DGW defender?

Loads of times my 3rd def is a more attractive option than my 5th mid.

And they are easier and more flexible to transfer in. Think Hull DGW last season.

Loads of times during a normal GW, yes.
But, IF we prep for the DGW (like a good manager would) then an AOA during a DGW would be a very profitable prospect.

          No

          Becuase

          A) You wil potentiallyl be one dgw defender short

          B) although attackers are more productive, having 8 of them in a DGW, allDGWers? Anyone who has played this game before knows you will only find 3 or 4 of them wirth having. The rest are a waste of transfers.

Not to mention the pice factor with B) . Even okay dgw attackers will come at a price

Exactly. DGW defenders can also be every bit as good as DGW attackers, I don't see why there is any difference there.

They are more likely to play both games (defences generally get rotated less than attacks) and they are so much easier to bring in without messing up the balance of your team.

IF we prep (like good managers should) for a DGW then stacking ourselves for an AOA will certainly be a more profitable use of the chip than just using it some random week during the season.

The key here is "we need to prep" for it.

            Yes

            A) We plan for DGW so, of course we'd prep ahead of time to avoid this.

            B) 'Anyone who has played this game before'?
            \
Mate, that's some logical fallacy 101.
You cannot make blanket statements like this & expect for us to take them seriously.
If we could field 8 DGWers in attack it would *more than likely* be better than fielding a traditional lineup.
            (And, if we couldn't we wouldn't bother! 🙂 )

You have to use it when you have a strong 5th midfielder and a weak defence. When big hitters are either injured or out of form, it is easier to have a strong midfield and hence use the chip.

When there is much trouble in defense(like for many now) and you think your 8th attacker has good chance - Then use it. Its unlikely there is a better use in DGW.
Just 180 minutes defender vs 180 minutes attacker, not a big deal.

But bench boost and triple captain of course save for DGW. 180 minutes captain points instead of 90 minutes
Not excactly same for bench boost since you will field your DGW players anyway but the bench will look much stronger in DGW than any other week.

I'm willing to get Hazard over KDB because I'm not sure how they will function in the absence of Silva and Kun. Also I'm not sure if KDB worth 1.7 more than Yaya and whether absence of Kun will derail his effectiveness.

Already made -4 (bringing in: KdB, Mane & Ighalo and taking out: Yaya, Depay & Diouf towards the latter of 1st week of Int'l break) hit this week so not making any more transfers this week but stuck on who to take out in 2 weeks (planning to bring Barkley in).

My current team is below: - I have put the prices that my players will sell for to make it easier.
    Cech (5.5)
    Alderweireld (5.0) Martin (4.5) Clyne (5.5)
    Payet (7.9) KdB (10.3) Mahrez (6.3) Mane - VC (7.8) Sanchez - C (11.2)
    Martial (8.3) Vardy (6.4)
    Panti (4.8) Fonte (5.4) Ighalo (5.2) Kolarov (5.8). I have £0.7m in the bank.

Was hoping to maybe hold on to Kolarov until return although may switch to Kompany. As you can see I have strong midfield already and all have decent/good run of fixtures. I was thinking that I might take out Mane and then bring Pelle in for Martial. Also looking at Liverpool's fixtures I was also hoping to take Clyne out soon, maybe for a Everton defender or MC def, or possibly even an Arsenal def such as Bellerin or Monreal (leaning to latter of the pair if I go for Ars).

I appreciate all feedback received. Thanks 🙂

    Myhill (Butland)

    Azpilicueta Darmian Morgan (Kolarov) (Targett)

Hazard Sanchez De Bruyne Mahrez Wanyama

    Martial Pelle (Berahino)

    Anything worth a -8?

I put in -4 in a sub comment, which changes it a little.

What do people think is a better pick: Hazard + Bony or KDB + Costa? Cheers

From my perspective, KdB looks well capable of matching Hazard, and I'd probably expect Costa to do better than Bony. It's not an easy one though.

    McCarthy Butland
    Kolarov* Richards Darmian Gomez* Targett
    Sanchez Hazard Ayew Mahrez Wanyama
    Aguero* Vardy Sakho

    2FT 1.4itb

    Good afternoon all.

Feeling glad I kept last weeks transfer in tact! what a nightmare of a week for injuries!

I'm looking at Aguero > Pelle and Kolarov > Kompany leaving me 6.0 itb.

Its tempting to take an -8 to swap Ayew and Mahrez for De Bruyne and Walcott. Just for the excitment.

    a - Either,
    b - Both or
    c - neither?

How is this for a somewhat recently assembled WC team:

    Butland, Hennessy
    Bellerin, Jagielka, Williams Soare, Prodl
    Sanchez, KDB, Walcott, Mane, Payet
    Lukaku, Ighalo, Pelle

    1.0 itb; TV=104.5; SV=102.4

Plan to get Aguero back would involve a FT plus a hit. This week = 3-5-2.

Can i get a RMWCT? leaves 0.7m itb and play 352

    butland henessey and
    bdavies williams cedric moreno janmaat
    hazard sanchez yaya mahrez mane
    pelle martial ighalo

    potential improvements:
    - could upgrade yaya to kdb but will have to replay janmaat and williams to 4.5m def
    - mane >> payet?
    - mane + martial >> mata + lukaku/bony

Mane vs. Payet. Splitting hairs. I'd take Payet given that you have Pelle.
Move Martial to Lukaku or Kane
Move Janmaat (no clean sheets there, only attacking points, IMO) to Soare
      Upgrade Cedric to Bertrand.
