With injuries mounting up, our community writers were on hand to serve up a raft of options to replace ailing attackers, maligned midfielders and indisposed defenders. Our hot topic posters ponder just how to spend the riches made available through a certain Argentine striker’s dodgy hamstrings, while we also catch up on the latest Member tables as well as news from our community leagues.

The Community Articles

With Sergio Aguero out for a number of Gameweeks through injury the community was in the market for a new striker. Rodellegabomb was on hand with this stat heavy, Members only, article on potential replacements for the Manchester City striker as well as a follow up looking at some more leftfield options.  Later in the week he also took a look at some of the best statistics for three of the week’s key bandwagons.

The Sarjeant also offers up a prime candidate to come into our frontlines in his latest look at team form, while Your Mum’s Athletic’s Gameweek 9 What the Bookies Say article predicts goals galore on the south coast this weekend to offer further replacement options.

With many defenders struggling with injury or battling the spectre of rotation, Innsie’s assessment of baseline bonus points amongst goalkeepers, full backs and centrebacks proved a timely article for those looking to revamp their backlines.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

There were plenty more options for those looking to replace Aguero in our look at the fall out from his injury, while Balders has taken a look to see how Manchester City fare in front of goal with and without their key striker.

Meanwhile, having sold the premium priced Aguero, the community are feeling rather flushed. Here’s how some are looking to flash their newly found cash.

As with our community articles, our community discussions also looked at defender options, as the injury flags continue to flutter alarmingly at the back. Our look at which centre backs and full backs are riding high in the Fantasy points, bonus, fixtures, assists and goal charts offers up some more options to consider drafting in.

Amongst midfielders, Riyad Mahrez appears to be on borrowed time, after being left out of Leicester’s side against Norwich in Gameweek 8 for tactical reasons. Abel Xavier is one of a number of community members considering letting Mahrez go. Diva has also been looking closely at Leicester players and asked whether Mahrez owners who also own Jamie Vardy, as well as two Southampton attackers are worried about over exposure when the two sides meet this weekend.

The injuries were also mounting up over at Anfield, where new boss Jurgen Klopp’s has promised a more intense brand of football. Danny Ings is now sidelined for the rest of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage in training, while Joe Gomez is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being injured while on international duty. For those wanting to know more about Klopp’s brand of football Jaffalicious was on hands with some of his most eye catching career statistics.

Elsewhere, Gargamel popped by with news of an update to his Gargatron tool, which gives Fantasy managers a revealing look at how their season has progressed so far.

Finally, it was Christina’s turn to hand out the cake as he celebrated his birthday this week.

The Members Tables

Danandandaman has taken a stab at predicting arguably the most unpredictable element of Fantasy Football, a goal from a defender. Greenwindmill’s latest table takes a look at tough defences who are forcing opposing teams to take long range pot shots, as well as soft touches who are inviting teams into their penalty box with alarming regularity.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The qualification results and first round draw of Balders’ American style Community Grand Play Offs competition are now live. Balders also brought us news of plans to set up a new community tournament organisation.

The results from Gamweek 1 of Jarvish’s Blank Week Challenge, for those wanting to carry on scratching their Fantasy Football itch during the international break, have also been published. Moorinho is setting the pace so far, with Kingozil and Onside9 also doing well.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Thoughts on Sterling as a differential?

9.4%* Half are probably inactive. Kun and Silva are both out, with their fixtures someone has to step up, and it isn't going to be Navas or Bony. Might even find himself replacing Bony if he cannot find his feet fast enough.

Not a great start for him I will agree and I have never liked him as a player, but he has shown signs of his ability. What better time to this then Bournemouth and Norwich at home, without a real goal scorer on the field.

I just don't like the way he's fitting with City's style. Now, that could all change with Silva and Kun out, but his skills simply haven't complemented the team very well. The match against Newcastle was very telling: the entire flow shifted when Navas came in for Sterling and De Bruyne switched to the left side. I'd say proceed with caution on Sterling at this point.

I struggled with this but opted for Monreal on my side. Bellerin played more over the break, so I think there is the slightest - very slightest - greater chance that he gets rested this week.

Squad is not looking pretty chaps:

    Current Starting 11:

    Hart (McCarthy)
Zouma, Cedric, Dawson (Targett and S. Taylor)
Mahrez, Payet, Ayew, KDB (c) , Pedro
    Pelle (vc), Gomis (Wilson)

2FT = Aguero and Silva > Pelle and KDB

Do i then take the minus 4 hit for either of the below?

    Pedro > Sanchez

    Or

Address my Defensive situation for a minus 4? (Zouma not guaranteed to start etc - leaves me 2 defenders scoring max)

    Stick to 2FT only?

Interested in thoughts surrounding answers if possible lads.

I did, only because when Kolarov gets fit Clichy might also be fit and the threat of rotation will always be there. With Bellerin/Monreal you've got less threat and more consistency.

The problem is they DO correlate very well with goals in the same timeframe.

E.g. shots on target in gws1-8 correlate very well with goals in gw1-8

However we are predicting the future. Shots on target in gws1-8 don't correlate well with goals in gw9-15

              Why?

Because shots on target fluctuate so greatly and are not good predictors. I am not making this up. I ran an excel spreadsheet with the CORREL function (correlation) using stats from the last 5 seasons. Of individual stats, shots in the box correlate best with future goals. This is because they remain more consistent over time and are due to team formation.

However using sibs alone are still not ideal. You need to combine with the striker's expected conversion rate and fixtures as well as shots outside the box combined with a much lower conversion rate.

Long story short, I disagree with that article but it is your call.

    Back again, with apology,

I said earlier it was unlikely Hazard would fall in price. It seems I was probably wrong.
I was in fairness going on the numbers given by FPL Statistics for his transfers between 21.00 and 22.00 which showed increased transfers in.
Somehow that has completely turned around and he is on the cusp.

So if you were going to sell/buy you may need to rethink if you can.

Good pick this week. Usually a high scoring fixture that.

Zabaleta worth a go on a WC?

    1FT, 0.6m ITB, no WC

    Bego McCarthy*
    Kolarov* Naughton* Evans* Gomez* Targett*
    Silva* Sanchez Mahrez Coutinho* Westwood
    Kun* Gomis Sakho

    Thoughts on this disaster?

    A) Kun / Silva -->> Pelle / KDB (-4)
    B) Kun / Silva/ WWood -->> Pelle / KDB / Any MD upto 9.7m (-8)
    C) Kun / Silva Gomez -->> Pelle / KDB / Any DF (-8)
    D) Other moves

      Would you consider Silva/Kola/Gomez for KDB/ARS defender/Cedric?

Gotta rid of Kun I think. 2 DF's in a -8 is a no no for me. Cheers for the thoughts tho

Fair enough. That defense will haunt you though 🙂 I'm thinking more long term than short term fixes. As long as you bought Kun at 13.0 you can wait until next week without losing any money.

Do it. A few others on here have done a -16. I'm on a -12 and many have done -8's.

      I have the same problem...

3 or 4 of my defenders ruled out....so I decided to play my all out attack coin!

      May help a little.

It's casuals logging on on Friday night and switching him to KDB or Sanchez as they've had the explosive points. Saves me 0.1 when I draft him back in on WC if he drops so fingers crossed!

Really pricey, better options, and ultimately doubts about whether he is really coming into form. I get that he has brought in some points in the last couple of GWs, but those were not convincing.

Would be great for wildcarders bringing him in this week - as long as he isn't in their squad now but is in there before the deadline.
