The Suspension Tightrope claimed no new victims over the last couple of days, but there are now 13 players finely balanced at the four-yellow mark with just one match remaining in Gameweek 9.

Prior to the weekend’s action getting underway, there were ten men on the verge of a one-match suspension: Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Fernandinho, Eliaquim Mangala, Matteo Darmian, Jack Colback, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele Alli and Mark Noble were all precariously perched.

James Milner joined that cast with a late challenge on Danny Rose and rode his luck for the remainder of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs, escaping without a red despite making a number of clumsy tackles. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela proved similarly tenacious for the home team and subsequently received his fourth caution of the campaign, placing him at risk of missing the North London derby in Gameweek 12. Spurs and Man City are the only two teams with one than one player on this week’s Tightrope, with both sides affording us two apiece.

Finally, Claudio Yacob – a midfield lynchpin for a West Bromwich Albion outfit that ranks joint-top for clean sheets (five) this term – entered the referee’s notebook for the third time in four outings, earning him caution number four for the campaign.

In terms of new suspensions, Dwight Gayle received his marching orders for two soft yellows during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United yesterday. The Eagles frontman was dismissed with the score level at one apiece late in the first-half and, post-match, manager Alan Pardew reckoned the decision was a little unjust:

“Our striker gets booked for a bad challenge, quite rightly. The second challenge, the referee knows he’s booked, he’s missed it by a centimetre probably and he sends him off. I thought a man of his experience perhaps should have looked at that situation and given him his final warning. I’m not excusing him from complete blame. The second challenge, he shouldn’t make. He’ll have to learn from that. Having said that, I still think it was very harsh to send him off.”

The 5.1-priced Gayle – who has started the last three outings up top – now sits out the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City next Gameweek, with Pardew likely to turn to Fraizer Campbell or Patrick Bamford if Connor Wickham fails to recover from injury in time. Given that he’s failed to net in five league appearances, Gayle may find it difficult to make an immediate return to the first XI in Gameweek 11.

Turning our attention towards players that have served their time, Eric Dier and Sebastian Coates – who toppled off the Tightrope last Gameweek – are available for selection next time out. The former will be hoping to reclaim his starting role in central midfield for the trip to Bournemouth, though Mousa Dembele staked a claim for another start with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool yesterday. Coates, meanwhile, will have to impress new manager Sam Allardyce to displace either Younes Kaboul or John O’Shea in central defence.

Jeremain Lens also makes a welcome return for the Black Cats, having fulfilled his duties and sat out their 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns. The Dutch midfielder – who has played a part in five of Sunderland’s eight league goals this season – could have a key part to play in the Wear-Tyne derby next Sunday as Big Sam welcomes his former club to the Stadium of Light.

What can we assume if Hazard starts midweek?
Back in contention or Willian/Pedro to start in the league again?
Or will it still be a blur?

This is my guess too. Pedro isn't doing anything extra defensively I'm sure. Mourinho wants to show he's boss.
        Hazard is too important.

    G'mornin

Southampton seems to by trolling me badly this season - started season with Pelle, Mane, Cedric only to sell them all before they hit the ground running. Then getting Pelle(c) + Mane for a hit this GW ....
Front three of Martial, Ighalo and Pelle not doing me any favors this weekend,, not I'm really torn what to do. Should I Succumb to Bony or Vardy bandwagons, and ditch Ighalo or Martial? Kind of thinking Martial could be worth holding for a few GW's still. But upgrading Ighalo on the other hand will make it more difficult to handle Aguero back

    Martial -> Vardy

Redmond scored and hit the woodwork yesterday. Is it the rotationrisk, that makes you take a hit to get rid?

He's too good for my bench and not good enough for my starting 11 😛
I had cash in the bank, wasn't pushed on Norwich's fixtures, and have wanted Cabaye for a while 🙂

Redmond is still a good option though.

quite tempted to to theo and yaya out for sterling and winjaldum for minus 4 to build some team value , surely both wiull at least double rise this week and my team value is at a measly 100.3 🙁 I also think that it could eaeily pay off points wise. With bony there holding the ball up for sterling he will be a focal goal threat while sergio is out and theo of course is always a rotation risk. Thoughts?

ya well he is now the focal point of attack along with bony. how many goals are city going to score against norwich and villa ? dont mind having him a couple of weeks if he bangs in another three or four ... he is more likely to score goals then kdb for sure at least in the short term whereas i see people here constantly punting kdb over sterling.

Thoughts on this GW11 WC team?

    Howard, Hennessey
    Bellerin, Berty, Moreno, Souare, O'Shea
    Sanchez, KDB, Walcott, Mane, Mahrez
    Pelle, Bony, Vardy

    Bank 0.0m

Option to downgrade Mahrez to an uber to beef up the defence. Lukaku also one to consider.

Does this factor in potential price rises?

I like it. Cedric + Skrtel over Berty Moreno for me. I recall you have Costa at the moment - why drop him?

        Nope...although I think only Bony/KDB are a concern.

Costa did well at the w/e but I still don't think he's worth 11m. Pelle, Bony, Lukaku, Vardy are all much better value at the moment imo.

        1. Shifty
          • 12 Years
          10 years, 4 months ago

Costa would give you an easier route to Aguero I guess. But I don't doubt his value is questionable at the moment.

My only concern here is that this team has funds spread too finely across defence and midfield. If Aguero is back by GW14, you'd be earmarking 3 transfers to get Aguero in.

Unless your plan is to ditch KDB for cheap mid and straight upgrade Bony to Aguero?

I know it's Pulis, but I see maximum 1 CS for Myhill from GW11-16.

LEI, mun, ARS, whu, TOT, liv.

For very little extra cash, the fixtures for Howard, Begovic, Stekelenburg etc are way better.

Myhill is an absolute gem IMO, whenever West Brom keep a CS he'll get BAPS, simply because the whole WBrom defence are BAP repellents. He probably only needs one or maybe two CS's to match the other keepers as a result, for a cheaper price. You can also rotate him.

I'm not so sure. Bony has NOR in GW11 and they make SUN look good defensively. Also, BFS will tighten things up at SUN.

Lukaku is a great option though, but I think with Pelle, Vardy and Bony in the mix, he's by no means a shoe in.

Pretty optimal and also quite template I guess. Consider Myhill over Howard to save some budget perhaps? And Wijnaldum over Mane could give you a needed differential - though that might work both ways 😉

if I have a week without injuries, I'm considering transferring out McCarthy (my second choice keeper) for a decent back-up to Myhill.

In your minds, is Myhill a set and forget keeper or is it worth upgrading McCarthy to someone like Butland who rotates well with Myhill? or perhaps someone like Gomes?

Another option is to transfer Myhill for Howard in GW11.

    - Myhill (Nor, LEI, Mun, ARS)
    - Gomes (Sto, WHM, Lei, MUN)
    - Butland (WAT, New, CHE, Sou)

Think it's likely to be low-scoring, good chance of a CS from one of them

Btw Should I stick to Nyom or change to TOBy/bellerin?Never convinced by taking out defenders for hits + EL midweek effect for spurs

    Which one would you bench?

    a) Mane/Pelle (liv)
    b) Alli (bou)
    c) Barkley (ars)

Reluctant to bench the Southampton lads because of form, but not sure I want both away at Klopp's new Liverpool. Tempted to play Alli, thoughts?
