Georginio Wijnaldum scores four times as Newcastle rout Norwich at St James’. Magpies front two Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic also get on the scoresheet, whilst strikes from Dieumerci Mbokani and Nathan Redmond offer scant consolation for the beaten Canaries.

Wijnaldum Grabs Four for Magpies

Newcastle registered their first win of the season in astounding fashion at St James’ Park, putting Norwich City to the sword in a 6-2 mauling. Georginio Wijnaldum etched his name into the Magpies’ folklore with a four-goal haul that included two headers and a pinpoint long-range effort to cap off the scoring. Priced at 6.8 and now sitting joint-second in the league scoring charts with six goals, the Netherlands international – who had produced points against Chelsea and City in the previous two Gameweeks – will doubtless enjoy a huge increase on his 2% ownership ahead of an excellent quintet of match-ups (sun, STO, bou, LEI, cry).

Elsewhere in the Magpies’ midfield, Moussa Sissoko racked up three assists from his role on the right flank. Notwithstanding the impressive nature of his performance against the Canaries, Fantasy managers might adjudge Sissoko (5.7) to be priced a little steep, given that he tallied just four goals and three assists last term and has only mustered five attempts this season.

Up top, Ayoze Perez produced a goal and an assist for the second home match in succession. The 5.1-priced striker had achieved the same feat against Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and rewarded the 9,000 managers that drafted him in prior to the deadline. Aleksandar Mitrovic’s 7,000 new owners witnessed the Serbian frontman net his second goal in as many starts. Deployed in a 4-4-2 set-up, both forwards harbour the potential to be valuable low-priced pick-ups as Newcastle face off against two of the league’s bottom four defences (Sunderland and Bournemouth) over the next four Gameweeks.

Daryl Janmaat underlined his rich potential for attacking returns with the assist for Wijnaldum’s hat-trick strike. Having amassed two more shots on target (six) than any defender this term, the 4.9-priced right-back’s Fantasy worth is evident, but a lack of confidence in Newcastle’s clean sheet prospects has deterred many. Afforded a strong run of fixtures, there’s arguably no better time for prospective Janmaat investors to snap him up.

Redmond in the Goals Again

Norwich’s rearguard bent and then buckled under the force of Newcastle’s resurgent attack, extending their winless streak to four matches. Dieumerci Mbokani gave the visitors reason to be cheerful with an equaliser at the 20-minute mark, yet that proved to be a mere footnote among a compendium of defensive errors. Nonetheless, the Congolese frontman looks to have ousted Cameron Jerome as the Canaries lone striker – after scoring against Leicester last time out and netting over the international break, he was handed his first start yesterday. Mbokani could offer value at 5.7, although the Canaries upcoming fixtures (WBA, mci, SWA, che, ARS) are far from accommodating.

Nathan Redmond bagged his fourth goal of the campaign in his first start since Gameweek 6. Alex Neil has employed the England U21 star as an impact player of late but will surely now be inclined to hand Norwich’s top scorer a sustained run on the right flank, with his side now just three points clear of the drop zone. Pitched at 5.6, the 7%-owned Redmond could subsequently claw back some of the 70,000 owners he’s shed in the past four Gameweeks.

Martin Olsson was handed a start at left-back, as Neil pushed Robbie Brady into midfield. The 4.4-priced Swede chalked up two assists, drawing attention to his potential as a budget defensive option. That being said, few managers will be tempted to recruit from a Norwich backline that ranks top for goals conceded (20), shots inside the box conceded (90) and big chances conceded (24) this term.

Any article or post on using first wildcard?
Gw11 seems best option as you have to use it before gw 19, the only other thing to consider is the international break between gw 13 and 14 which makes u think is it better to use gw15? But then you miss out on the fixture changes..

I had both Vardy and Mahrez at thr beginning but Mahrez not starting regularly could cost me points. I took Ozil in with Mahrez out this week instead.

After all, Vardy has most of the points in Leicester. Mahrez will continue to be rotated and started in an irregular way.

      This.

I agree with you, and I disagree with JaziiHD that Leicester has the worst defence. In fact, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Norwich are worse than Leicester. If you look at Leicester def, they usually end up with 1pt and max of 2 goals conceded with the exception of against Arsenal.

Vardy could do well even without Mahrez. Dyer and Schlupp are now in the picture, and Fuchs seems to he favoured with Schlupp on the attacking flanks. Without a doubt, Mahrez is good but if you were to look at FPL, Vardy would be a must.

Mahrez is just secondary now because there's no way we can guess what the Tinkerman has in plans. Would you say Mahrez will be nailed on every GW like Vardy? That's something to thibi about!

      1. Johnny98
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

Exactly. I was only concerned that although its still early in the season, Vardy might have been tired after the internationals he played in. The guy just runs non-stop, harassing defenders and chasing every loose ball and the type that's perfect for FPL.

Still, as you say you never know what might happen. It was hard to imagine Mahrez being benched till it happened so you never know if it may happen with Vardy at somepoint. However Leicester do have more options to rotate in midfield and not really as many up front, so fingers crossed he stays fit and firing. For now I think I'll have to keep the armband on him for the home match vs Palace. Amazing to think how many times Leicester have come back this season, they're not strong on clean sheets but I can see them scoring against anyone right now.

        1. Mark-O
          • 10 Years

Vardy is unlikely to be benched unless he hits the wall for too long. Kramaric is definitely out of the picture. Ulloa is a small threat but should still continue to feature from the bench.

There was an article saying that Vardy might be sold for a huge profit to Barcelona or Real Madrid in the next summer transfer window as he was bought for just 1mil pounds. LCFC board is not keen to sell him at least till this season ends, so Vardy will just keep his place.

    Hello All

Any advice on the below team would be much appreciated. I have 0 FT so hoping to hold off until next week but are there any glaring issues that you can see right now?:

    Butland (Ruddy)
    Williams Cedric Aldeweireld (Francis, Kolarov)
    Sanchez Mahrez Payet KDB (Sinclair)
    Ighalo Vardy Pelle

Dier won't get a red. He just gets stuck in as a play breaker due to which he will get a yellow in games.. Also i think Dier has a few goals in him.

Worried about his gametime after that dembele performance.

Only got 52 with Ayew and Butland to play tonight...

Biggest error this GW was leaving Jevans on the bench when he was orange flagged! Should have just played him and then let Francis sub in if he didn't start. Missed out on 6 points there and also was tempted to bring Bellerin in for -4 but swerved it last minute!

Missed out on around 12 points in the end. My Kun and Ritchie to Vardy and Sanchez worked out well though!

I feel I’ve a lot more improvement to make before I reach my full potential but playing here should certainly help me achieve that.”

I think you did better than most. Pelle (c) fail would have been a bit difficult to take I think. This is exactly why I didn't get him, he is just too inconsistent for my liking and I already have Mane. Decided to hedge the bets and gamble on Chelsea's fixtures and Costa's return. So far so good!

Fair enough! Yeah I see your point re: Pelle. Didn't want Bony as he has hardly played and has been in shocking form when he has done, and I've never been an FPL fan of Costa since his electric start to the prem. BAP repellant, card magnet, erratic. But good call on that!

Yeah I know he doesn't get too many Bonus Points and I was a bit concerned about that until he got the assist for the Own Goal. Can't remember the last time I saw Costa with 3 BPS, it was more about Hazard getting them.

Got a bit lucky though. 🙂

Maybe not exactly... I would've gone with "Extremely" rather than "Very".. Adds a bit more... Umph...

Yup, 8m in the bank. Think Ayew's on the tightrope tonight. Think you're (all) right about Payet, he and West Ham are the real deal just now. I shipped Gomis last week so thinking of ending up Swans free might not be too bad given the better attacking teams just now.

          8m?!

Wow, I'd be shipping Anya for Alexis and having a strong front 8 despite rotation headaches. But then, I suppose you'll need a few quid for Aguero's return etc.

Aye, my only caveat regarding selling Swansea players is in their next 5 fixtures they play Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth.

    a) Martial -> Costa

    b) Kolarov -> Kompany/Zaba

Defense is Darmian, Monreal, M Richards (Kolarov, Targett)

Kolarov is back next week so keep him, a wasted transfer imo

Kolarov is not back next week, he needs 2 weeks to heal
