Meant to post this a new post even though its above:

is it really worth keeping Darmian? he always seems to get hauled off at half time if someone is beasting him. He's gone 90, 45,90,45, 90 last 5 games!

United defence seems to go up and down to. Perhaps there is a pattern to this?

I sold him last week 🙁 still glad though because of yc's on top of what you said, DDG or Smalling seem the best bet in their defence

One more. DZ being helpful as ever, thank you

Rookie mistake with too much tied up in goal - but has offered up points so not tried to fix. Will do in future as an enabler.

    Should I keep:

    A. Cech
    B. Myhill

    And who replace with?

      • 12 Years
      10 years, 9 months ago

Keep Myhill and get an Arsenal fullback.

cheers, probably makes sense when I need the funds. Myhill/Hennessey would eventually both have real rotation risks, though so might have to watch for that.

I think Foster will be eased out and Myhill has been performing well so he is safe enough. Butland if you really want a nailed on back up.

I was hoping this would happen. Ayew to Barkley after next week makes even more sense now. And Barkley's underlying stats are still pretty healthy.

Still can't believe how shockingly low Costa's & Chelsea's xG are & how high their xGC is still. Granted those two goals Costa got were off one very sloppy goal-kick & a flakey own-goal.

xGC is more surprising. They weren't a huge xG team last season anyway. Costa usually just outstrips it by a mile. That said the gulf from Arsenal and City to the rest is quite jaw-dropping.

      1. Zasa
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 9 months ago

True, rarely if ever had higher than 2.0 xG last season if I recall correctly. Indeed, their attacks are just miles above the rest, doubling & tripling respectively the expected goal difference of everyone below. Remarkable stuff, really. Hence why, patience is a virtue with City & Arsenal milfs, they score so much your attacker is bound to capitalize on one of the plethora of goalscoring opportunities at some point. If not, you better believe he'll be top of Jonty's explosion imminent table like Ramsey, Ozil & Sterling.

Seriously though, question about my WC plans for next week. Is Sterling, KdB, Bony too much City attack or is there no such thing?

            Dirty Sanchez!

Too much? Hmm, that's a fine line there. (NOR, avl, LIV, SOT, sto) Two straightforward trampling's with I'd imagine major xGD, two less than ideal homers though Saints have shown they're prone to counter attacks & pace. Pool at home is a bit of an unknown variable with Klopp, I'd imagine their defense showing more immediate improvements rather than their attack (Gengenpress takes time to grasp).

The last fixture is an underwhelming, slow defense in Stoke. Who are pretty low for xGC, should be an easy fixture for their attack.

Overall, I think bar one fixture here, the xGD should be substantial to warrant a double-up in their attack. Yet, the third is tricky for me, for the simple explanation that I'd feel more confident going into the GW's with a more 'first-string' outet of attack from a team. It“s a very vain reason, but I do believe there's a higher ceiling of points from a player who“s the focal point of an another potent attack. Players for example: the low scoring Swansea from last season, Siggy. Low scoring Saints, Mané: Payet/Downing. Perhaps Barkley now

Point being that while the rationale is there (re triple-up) there' is IMO, a higher risk involved in case of an anomaly in xG (i.e 1-3 vs Spurs). I'm not so sure City's massive xG is enough to mitigate that risk, when you have great alternatives that are at the heart of other team's attack. I also fear other (slight) regressions on the horizon or possible anomalies in both Saints & Pool games. You could be left in the dust for those two gàmes.

Some very good points there Zazou!

It's much likely the Hazard/Fabregas/Costa triumvirate of last year that smashed it in november and early december but completely left owners dead when they blanked once or twice. I think I may go for the more traditional Def/Mid/Fwd treble up if I do indeed treble up, it'll just be a case of hoping Kompany's fit and if I can afford him. It feels wrong only doubling on the team that are Champions Elect for me though.

I'll have to see how the pieces come together when I start tinkering properly on Saturday but City players are all over my shortlist to get in.

Or u can go quadruple up with Kolarov , acts as a defender AND a midfielder

hehehe if only. My Dugout FC team however is a thing of beauty with a Man City septuple!

Exactly 😉 Arsenal as well for their DGW.

I think I'll just go double attack & leave that other option open, not to keen on City defense right now. Obviously Kompany's impact is significant, but I think there's better value defenses out there with great fixtures as well to counter Kompany/Kolarov.

The triple may very well be a fruitful alternative, but I'm in no rush to commit to that tactic YET. Saints, United, Arsenal, Everton, Palace, Leicester until Gw14, Newcastle, Ighalo perhaps until Gw16, all teams with viable alternatives in that front eight. On the WC, I'd rather diversify first & then throw up the idea of a treble up IMO.

                  • 12 Years
                  10 years, 9 months ago

Fair enough, it was part of my big thing against trebling up anywhere in gameweek 1 is that is much harder to climb down from a treble up than step up to one.

Also why I was against doubling up on Ayew/Gomis, Payet/Sakho and still don't have Mahrez/Vardy. You've gotta be sure when putting your eggs in the basket and I'm trying to work out if I am or not with Arsenal and City.

If Kolarov's back early, the City treble will be a done deal but I agree Kompany isn't really a value buy but a luxury with Aguero out and Hazard/Costa being sh!te.

                    Precisely 😉

Don't agree with splurging in the back though, simply because I want to carry my 343/352 hybrid structure into the infamous 'Christmas rotation'. I can't afford the likes of Kolarov + KdB + Everton/Saints/Arsenal/Spurs defense & a good 3rd striker + strong 5th milf. If you can, more power to you 🙂

I'm personally keeping my defensive team structure as is with all the Agüero money, all of it will be used up top & subsequently easing the transition from sans-Agüero to pro-Aguero with minimal reworking of team structure.

Not really lol. Messi hasn't done much this season and neither has Suarez. Plus that you can obviously only have 3 strikers on and there are so many options. And a lot of points in the lower teams.

Is Grumpy Camel around? He must be pretty miffed about our H2H in Balders' Playoff tournament. On Saturday he had about a 20 point lead with Williams + Butland to play. All I had was Wijnaldum + Butland. So it was basically Williams + 20 vs Wijnaldum. Surely he's got the win in the bag, right?

    Think again 😉

I just use my WC two weeks ago and already want to use it again. Hows this for a provisional team

    Myhill Henn
    Bellerin Dawson Alderwield Bertrand Moreno
    Cabaye Sanchez KDB Mahrez Payet
    (Aguero)Pelle ighalo Vardy

not too far off just need to do francis to moreno, nyom to betrand, hazard to payet and drinkwater to cabaye and pray that theres no price rises (not going to happen).

Sold for me sadly, Swansea's attack is just woeful. Hideous to watch tbh, Monk's teams are always so 'english', stagnant & straightforward.

Underlying stats/xG are bad as well.

      Ayew to Wijnaldum seems obvious.

But i'm thinking of Westwood to Wijnaldum for a playing 5th mid.

SWA attack may be less rubbish than AVL defence.
