The Tyne-Wear derby kicks off proceedings on Sunday, as Sunderland look to pacify a Newcastle side that rediscovered their mojo with a 6-2 win over Norwich City last Gameweek. The Black Cats are without a win this campaign but haven’t lost a derby match since August 2011, winning the last five by an aggregate of 10-1.

Sunderland have posed little goal threat over the past four Gameweeks, drawing three blanks and ranking bottom for shots inside the box (18). Moreover, no team has mustered fewer shots on target (25) throughout the course of the campaign. They’ve fared no better on the defensive end, placing second for goals conceded (19) and shots inside the box conceded (89), rendering them a Fantasy wasteland through the opening nine Gameweeks.

Although the Magpies put the Canaries to the sword at St James’ Park, they still rank in the bottom five for attempts (43) over the last four Gameweeks, which serves to moderate the enthusiasm fostered by that crushing victory. Steve McClaren’s men have surrendered just three fewer shots inside the box (86) than Sunderland and conceded the same number of goals (19), ensuring that a 0-0 stalemate is an unlikely scenario.

Anyone else of the opinion that both of these teams are terrible and none interest you from an FPL perspective?

But there no disputing that it was a clear penalty

    4. Hairy Potter

Thought it was a penalty to be honest, but can see the argument against the red card as there was no "clear" goal scoring opportunity.

      1. Camp No No
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 1 month ago

I don't see any argument _for_ a red card at all. The rule is that he should have been in a clear goal scoring opportunity and going towards the goal. Now there was only a chance that he could _get_ into a scoring opportunity, although even that was rather thin since in aftermath it was clear that Eliot was always going to be first to that ball, but still, and he was _not_ moving towards the goal, but wide from it.

    5. Geordienufc1
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 1 month ago

I do dispute the penalty actually. Whilst colocinni was idiotic to go in with that degree of force, it's shoulder to shoulder and should not have been a penalty.

      The red card. Well. Abhorrent.

I know I sound like a bitter fan, perhaps I am at this point, but I honestly feel that we were very hard done by today. Even if the penalty was fair, the red card which just destroyed the game cannot be justified.

      1. Camp No No
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 1 month ago

Yes, even the penalty was disputable in that sometimes these shoulder to shoulder situations are let pass. Still, it's a bit as if Colocini screened Fletcher, which is a foul.
