A trio of new protagonists toppled off the Suspension Tightrope over the weekend’s ten fixtures. Palace wide man Wilfried Zaha, West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob and Villa defender Ciaran Clark were the guilty parties, with all three set to miss Gameweek 15 as their clubs do not have midweek Capital One Cup fixtures to bail them out.

Zaha was booked for simulation just three minutes before scoring his first goal since the opening day of the season – he now misses the upcoming trip to Everton a week tomorrow. Yacob earned an 81st-minute yellow during the Baggies’ draw at West Ham, whilst Clark finally succumbed to the high wire with a fifth booking, more than two months after collecting a fourth yellow card in the Capital One Cup third round. The Villa centre-half was the second player in the top-flight to reach four cautions but had been hampered by fitness and selection issues ever since. He’s been named in all three of Remi Garde’s starting XIs, though, and will now miss the upcoming visit to Southampton.

Ryan Shawcross also received a one-match ban. The Stoke skipper collected two yellows in a five-minute spell either side of half-time for fouls on Steven Fletcher and Duncan Watmore as Mark Hughes’ men fell to a 2-0 defeat at Sunderland. He’ll miss the Capital One Cup Quarter Final against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek but will be available for next week’s tough home encounter with Man City.

Post-match, Hughes slammed the decision to send his captain packing as Stoke lost for just the second time since Gameweek 5:

“I think the referee didn’t show any common sense really and should have given Ryan the benefit of the doubt. Ryan feels he got a nick on the ball before the lads gone down so I’m disappointed from that point of view. The referee, on the day, didn’t perform as I’ve seen him perform before; unfortunately he got the awarding of the free kick that led to their first goal wrong as well. Those are the key moments in the game that change it and unfortunately they were negative for us.

Elsewhere in the same match, Erik Pieters joined Alex Tettey at the top of the Tightrope charts with his sixth booking – no Premier League player has more this season.

There were five new additions to this week’s Tightrope. Bournemouth’s Dan Gosling joined team-mate Matt Ritchie to double the number of Cherries on the wire. Stoke’s Charlie Adam picking up a fourth yellow for a crunching challenge on Lee Cattermole at the Stadium of Light, whilst Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue also saw yellow in yesterday’s fixtures.

Spurs defensive duo Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker joined them today, meaning that 18 players now sit just one caution shy of a single-match suspension. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now received 33 bookings in the league this season – that’s more than any other side, with Liverpool (32) and West Brom (30) next in line. In the case of the first two in particular, their penchant for pressing opponents is clearly incurring the referees’ wrath.

Seven players will return from bans in time for Gameweek 15. Graziano Pelle, Lucas, Jonjo Shelvey, Chris Brunt, Robert Huth, Mark Noble and Dele Alli are available once again after falling off last week’s Tightrope, whilst James Collins comes back into contention for West Ham, having sat out a three-match ban.

Still quite tightly bunched in terms of ranks though, isn't it? You should overtake the casual players before the end of the season.

Like LVG says, it's a process.

In a way I'm pleased to be bounced into selling Sanchez.

I'm planning on moving towards a Kane/Lukaku/Aguero anyway and that would remove any need for Sanchez as a captain pick. Add in the fact that Ozil is outperforming him as Arsenal coverage too and Sanchez becomes fairly unnecessary.

Would have still been a worry not owning him though so this makes things a bit simpler I guess.

Also frees up a bit of cash to reinforce my defence for the Christmas rotation period. All good.

doubt people will do it this week as they have other issues and LEI have a reasonable fixture.

However ive just been looking and the week after they have Chelses at home. With Chelsea looking to be tightening up I highly doubt we will want to play both Mahrez and Vardy....

So maybe people will beging selling Mahrez for people like Cout/Eriksen/Firmino that week as they have great fixtures (spurs vs NEW, pool vs WBA), if they have good form of course.

If Sanchez is out for a few weeks (very likely). How soon will you bring him back in after his injury? Will we be able to fit him back in? as most likely many will have Aguero in their teams by then.

Providing you have a KDB/Hazard priced midfielder then upgrading to Sanchez should be simple enough - his price will have dropped by then as well.

I think we are going to see Hazard jump into the reckoning on the stat tables after the upcoming game vs Bournemouth pushing his gw11 fixture off the last 4 matches filter.

He was subbed in the 58th minute vs Liverpool having not had a touch in the opposition penalty area.

He will be right in the mix for anyone looking at midfielders against that criteria.

He's been high for chances created especially the last couple of weeks and even last four aswell despite GW11 numbers.

Have you seen the Assist Imminent table?

I have just enough for this. Should I make the first transfer now?

    Sanchez > Hazard

    Gomes > DDG

Already have Ozil. Myhill my second keeper

    Hazard.....

Players I've bought this season due to good fixtures:

    Mitrovic
    Martial
Perhaps even Firmino to be added to the list

Hazard? Really not convinced but still want

I think I'm going to pull the trigger. Although I'm not convinced Sanchez will be out for as long as people think, if at all.

      I've got a similar list.

      Shaqiri (ew)
Berahino (got a goal or two out of him, but at the expense of not getting Vardy)
Wijnaldum (was there for his 25-pointer, but nothing since)
      Firmino (juries out)

      Daft pick.

Eriksen, KDB (if you sold him), Bolasie or Silva at a pinch if you want an injury prone genius.

I'm tempted by Bolasie, his stats are pretty decent.

waiting on sanchez, sanchez always finds a way to get rid of the knock... also with midweek games other injuries could happen...

Its best to wait regarding Sanchez, unless the move you are planning needs to be done before he drops

Dont care if he can make it to the new GW. He still is not 100 % and he wont deliver until he reaches a higher level of fitness. To many alternatives out there.

    Mahrez vs. Vardy.

If you could only keep one, which would it be?

I know Vardy is in better form but I think Mahrez is the more valuable FPL pick. Other strikers can compete (and surpass) Vardy in terms of what they offer imo but nobody is going to come close to Mahrez in terms of value. I'd sooner have him nailed as the 4th mid than Vardy nailed as one of my strikers.

I don't own either btw, so that's an neutral observer.

Vardy because he is going to carry on picking up the odd goal even if he doesnt stay in this kind of form.

Defences will be terrified of him. Plus his confidence is sky high. Mahrez could easily descend into his normal self

        Have you seen Mahrez play?

It's not like he's Lallana from two seasons ago. Or Michu or anyone like that. His skills are genuinely outstanding.

See, I think Mahrez is more likely to maintain his form than Vardy.

Besides, it isn't just about what they do, it's also about what their rivals for a place in your team do too. Vardy is competing with the likes of Kane, Lukaku, Aguero, Ighalo and Benteke, whereas I don't see any mids in Mahrez' price bracket who offer as much as he does. I'd sooner have the flexibility to switch my strikers around than my 4th mid.

Definitely Mahrez and for the exact reasons you state.
