There’s been plenty of work going on behind the scenes at FantasyBet this week. The most important change is the introduction of multiple entry games, which are listed in the game picks section below – essentially, it’s also now possible to enter two teams in the Fantasy Football Scout Picks league.

They’ve also updated the “create a game” page – if you have any queries or feedback for the FantasyBet team get in touch at support@fantasybet.com.

If you are unfamiliar with FantasyBet it is particularly accessible for those who play Fantasy Premier League, as it uses the same initial player prices and has a similar scoring system.

Check out this video to see how team creation works.

MY TEAM

This is the team I will play in the weekly free-roll game, which covers all ten fixtures:

Jack Butland (4.5m)
Toby Alderweireld (5.5m)
Aleksandar Kolarov (6m)
Alberto Moreno (5m)
Kevin De Bruyne (10.5m)
Marko Arnautovic (6m)
Matt Ritchie (5.5m)
Mesut Ozil (8.5m)
Romelu Lukaku (9m)
Harry Kane (9.5m)
Olivier Giroud (8.5m)

KEY PICKS

Jack Butland The Potters shot stopper continued a remarkable run of form against Manchester City last time out, registering a sixth shut out in eight Gameweeks. A trip to West Ham bodes well for Butland’s prospects of further defensive returns this weekend, with the Hammers down to the bare bones up top after Victor Moses and Manuel Lanzini joined Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho on the sidelines.

Toby Alderweireld The ex-Atletico central defender has settled in quickly at Spurs, with two goals and a pair of assists to his name already. A clean sheet against Chelsea in their last home match bodes well for Tottenham’s prospects against a Newcastle side that have scored just three times in seven road trips thus far.

Marko Arnautovic A brace against Manchester City brought the Austrian’s total to five strikes in just 14 appearances – his best goal tally in three seasons. Involved in over 50% of Stoke’s goals so far, Arnautovic looks in fine form as he pays visit to a West Ham side that’s managed one clean sheet in ten and is devoid of injured skipper Winston Reid.

Olivier Giroud A midweek hat-trick at Olympiacos was the first time the Frenchman has netted more than once in a match this term, though a goal every 90 minutes in the league and Europe is a reassuring sign of consistency. Mesut Ozil’s mercurial support from midfield should help maintain Giroud’s momentum as the Gunners travel to basement-dwellers Aston Villa.

THIS WEEK’S GAME PICKS

As always the best place to start if you’re new to FantasyBet is the weekly freeroll, where you can set up a free team and compete against the team above for a £100 pot.

It is now possible to have multiple entries (up to five per contest) in the following games this week:

The Grand Saturday is FantasyBet’s biggest game, where your compete for a £1000 guaranteed prize pool on a £5.50 buy in.

There’s the Super Sunday game, which has £300 up for grabs, each team costs £3.30 to enter.

The Weekend Flash game is the other multiple entry tournament, this is £5.50 per squad with
a £150 guaranteed in pay-outs.

LAST WEEK

I earned a third-place finish in the free-roll last week – I captained Odion Ighalo and selected hat-trick hero Riyad Mahrez, while United duo Chris Smalling and David De Gea bagged clean sheets to ensure a high finish. With a similar team, Yabadabadabadu topped the £1000 pot with 85 points. I picked up £9 from the big pot and £6 from the Saturday double-up to leave £120.29 in the kitty.

THIS WEEK’S STAKE

I will enter The Grand Saturday contest, both of the £100 freerolls, the FFScout Picks League and the Super Sunday game for a total stake of £9.90.

In addition, I’ll be going up against Shaktimaan, the Community champion in this week’s Scout Picks. He will be taking me on in a specially set up head to head game for a chance to win free entry into a £400 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22.

Also, the Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £500 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55. The Scouts beat Jose’s Magic Omelette by 45 to 32 points last week.

FFSCOUT PICKS LEAGUE

Reedy topped last week’s Scout Picks League with 85 points – a double-up of Watford duo Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney matched Riyad Mahrez’ 21 points, and Aaron Ramsey’s 11 points were the other notable contribution.

Once again, FantasyBet have provided a £100 pot for the FFScout Picks League – with a £1.10 stake for entry, it is now possible to enter two teams into this contest. I will enter our Scout Picks as closely as possible, given a 15-man squad is required with the 100m budget and a captain also needs to be selected.

Feel free to go up against them this week and pick your own squad on FantasyBet.

FPL game evolution proposal. What do you guys think?

The more we get advanced through the Calendar, the more template becomes the team. Thus, while a 50 points gap between GW5 and 10 nearly becomes a 100 points between GW15 and 20 since they are less and less differential players between teams. I have been playing FPL for 5+ years and I think the game really loses dynamics after Christmas. Even with the January WC.

This is mainly due to the 1 FT per GW only. My proposal would be to give 2 FT every GW but to penalize more heavily a potential 3rd one (let's say -8 or -10). This would really make the game more exciting in my opinion. What do you think?

      • 13 Years

Surely that would make it worse as it would just be easier to get the template team?

but it also might encourage people to make changes based on say 1 or 2 GW's rather than the current 4-6

If I had 2ft's a week I can't see me ever taking a hit. You're right though, the second half of the season is usually a bit of a let down I find.

the other way round also work. You can use those 2FT to extract yourself from the template, get more differential and cacth the leader up.
The general idea of the game is not being template, it is fore-seeing and differentiating.

Sometimes I feel my team is like a big elephant. I have numerous ideas but it takes me 4GW to set them up and that's frustrating and this leads to a slow moving game

Points are what we are all chasing, so I'm not sure if more FTs would create more risk taking or more herd following.

Part of limiting transfers is it rewards planning ahead and strategy. The late Game often features double game weeks which have a massive effect on peoples plans both using FTs and taking hits.

My team tends to be templatish in the 1st half of the season, purely to gain TV.

Then in the 2nd half of the season I just have the players that will get the highest points, if this happens to align with the "template team", then so be it

      1. rnrd
        • 11 Years

Another problem with the 1FT is that when you are leading a league, you tend to play the defense. You will pick the player that you think other people will pick, just to cancel the possibility they catch up with you with him as a differential.

It reminds me of the 2 points win and the 1 point draw. I think turning a victory into 3 points made the game and football more attacking and exciting

    8. Sif
      • 12 Years

Also the hit is all about risk/reward, at -4 there is a chance you can make these points back with the right transfer. At -8, -10 that opportunity to recoup your losses is tiny given the huge deficit you inflict upon yourself.

I think this year is the worst yet when it comes to template team i think thats due to the more expensive players all faltering, and players like Igalho, Vardy, Mahrez continue their scoring streaks.

Love these posts about how the game can/should be changed to increase roster differentiation. I don't think that these ideas will result in the type of outcome you seek, but I do think changes are needed. My suggestions are:

      - Allow unlimited unused transfers to be carried over week to week (create distance b/w aggressive and conservative strategies)
      - Eliminate the 50% fee on sells (entice owners to buy/sell for value versus being cautious with trades)
      - Create greater volatility in the pricing algorithm (create minor chaos in the markets)
      - Introduce the concept of "price gravity" whereby players who are not widely owned (threshold tbd by the FPL lords) gradually lose value to entice ownership (totally borrowed from another fantasy game)
      - Eliminate the price stability feature for injured players (force owners to abandon; entice non-owners to buy back. Create pressure to use trades.)
      - Raise the base prices for the best and next tier players (make them a little less affordable)

All of these ideas are aimed towards providing fantasy managers with different strategies and tactics for winning. They create more dichotomy between playing for money or playing for points, and in being hasty vs. being prudent.

Anything to heighten the differences in tactics between aggressive risk taking and conservative risk aversion will help create greater roster differentiation, and that is really good.

If it's squad differences you want, then doing away with the 2nd wildcard would be a good start - Especially now you can use the second one at any time after January. That rule change effectively forced a lot of players who would normally wait for the DGWs in the second half of the season in to WCing during GW3-6. Is it surprising that a lot of teams are the same? I think for diversity's sake this was a bit of an o.g. by FPL Towers.

Yep, same people 🙂 And yes, you have a point Demi but as you're a United fan; I can see some biasy. Smalling, Darmian, Jones, Rojo, Schniederlin, Schweinsteiger all won't be playing and Bournemouth's attacking stats have been great recently.

Also, Swansea are so bad that City without Kompany can shut them out.

Ayew's stats have tailed off recently and he and Swansea couldn't even score against leaky Leicester, Man City haven't been as defensively resolute lately but they are better than the foxes.

before, pass from Ozil to Giroud > goal. Now, pass from Ozil to Giroud to Ramsey > goal.

    Currently sitting on:

    Butland
    Bellerin, Rose, Moreno
Coutinho, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Ozil, Bolasie
    Vary, Lukaku

    Schwarzer, Zouma, Evans, Aguero.

I'd like to do something with Sergio because 13m sitting on the bench feels like a waste but unsure if I should just ride it out and hold him or not?

He could have had a couple last week. He is getting chances but just not scoring.
I'm keeping him as one of my non-template selections.

only leading my ML by 20 points, was leading by more before i tried to bring in a few differential players.. (benteke, firmino, cazorla, aguero etc.) didnt work out at all.. seems the only way i can keep the lead is to go template.. damn i cant even play my own game

So what is going on here? Is Hennessey injured? So confusing!

Julian Speroni will be on the bench next week, if there's no injury to Hennessey. #cpfc

Pardew: Sako still won't be available for this game. Alex McCarthy will be on the bench tomorrow. Mile Jedinak will miss this game. #cpfc

Does anyone still use home/away rotation? like for cheap defenders or anything? I thought alot about it preseason, and then it seemed to go out the window when I got Bellerin, Kolarov etc. I wonder, with Stoke, Palace etc having good fixtures over christmas, maybe I should look at a rotation again.
