We take our regular trip to the Weekly Shop this evening, assessing the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

The player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Stoke continued their extraordinary run of defensive returns last weekend, picking up a seventh clean sheet in nine with a goalless draw at Upton Park. Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, PremierPunt 7.3m) earned 11 points after making eight saves at the Boleyn Ground and secured all three bonus for the third time in six weeks, making the Potters shot stopper the stand-out keeper pick as Crystal Palace travel to the Britannia.

Chelsea continue to toil under Jose Mourinho, with the 2-1 defeat at Leicester making it nine league defeats this campaign – equaling their entire total of league losses during his previous three-year stint as manager. The Blues have, nonetheless, kept four clean sheets in their last six matches across all competitions and will be under pressure to keep the Black Cats out at Stamford Bridge. Kurt Zouma (FantasyBet 5.5m, PremierPunt 8.2m) is a regular starter and offers the cheapest route into the back four.

Georginio Wijnaldum (FantasyBet 7m, PremierPunt 8.2m) sits fourth in the midfielders leaderboard, having played a part in 10 of Newcastle’s 18 strikes so far this season. The Dutchman also prefers home comforts, with all seven of his goals arriving at St James’, and now hosts an Aston Villa outfit that have conceded 16 times in their last six away trips.

While Harry Kane’s form has dropped off, Romelu Lukaku (FantasyBet 8m, PremierPunt 12.2m) maintained his scoring streak by netting for the sixth successive match away to Norwich last time out. Table-toppers Leicester City visit Goodison on the back of two clean sheets away to Swansea and Newcastle but the Foxes had conceded in every away trip prior to those matches and, crucially, will be missing the suspended Robert Huth.

Poundstretchers

Newcastle welcome Villa in decent defensive form, with three clean sheets in the last six Gameweeks, including a shut-out against Liverpool in their previous match at St James’. Budget keeper Robert Elliot (FantasyBet 4m, PremierPunt 6.4m) looks excellent value against an attack that’s scored just twice in their last four road trips, whilst Daryl Janmaat (FantasyBet 4.5m, PremierPunt 7.8m) is also an option, with his raids down the right serving up a goal and two assists so far.

Manchester United may have some serious injury concerns at the back but, having chalked up four successive clean sheets at home and conceded only one goal in seven matches at Old Trafford, Louis Van Gaal’s side will be confident of keeping out promoted Norwich in front of their own fans. Patrick McNair (FantasyBet 4.5m, PremierPunt 5.4m) has started the last three and provides an inexpensive route into the defence.

Bournemouth travel to a West Brom side that have failed to keep a clean sheet in six and have conceded three times at the Hawthorns on four occasions already. The Cherries, meanwhile, will be buoyed by back-to-back victories against Chelsea and Manchester United, making Junior Stanislas (FantasyBet 4.5m, PremierPunt 5.8m) a real bargain on the back of three goals and an assist in the last four Gameweeks.

Only Mesut Ozil (FantasyBet 8.5m, PremierPunt 12.3m) now sits ahead of Gerard Deulofeu in the assists chart, after the young Spaniard grabbed his eighth in the last ten Gameweek at Carrow Road. Deulofeu’s creativity and link-up play with Romelu Lukaku could be key to unlocking the Leicester defence this weekend – he’s kindly priced at 6.5m in FantasyBet, while in PremierPunt, he’s classed as a forward and available for 9.4m.

A trip to the Liberty Stadium, where managerless Swansea have conceded 11 times in their last five home matches, provides an opportunity for West Ham to get amongst the goals. Although Slaven Bilic’s side have drawn blanks in the last two, Mauro Zarate (FantasyBet 5.5m, PremierPunt 7m) has offered plenty of threat in recent weeks – the Argentine has fired 13 attempts over the last three Gameweeks and could be set to add to his three-goal tally so far.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

So this is my team this week......2FT and 4.3 ITB (for Kane to Kun)

    Butland
    Bellerin Moreno Azpi
    Ozil Kdb Barkley Bolasie
    Lukaku Kane Vardy

    (Hennesey Barry Cedric Simpson)

was looking at shipping Azpi but as woeful as Chelsea are it still seems silly before Sunderland at home

is it time to put my stubbornness to the side and finally get Mahrez in....Bolasie to Mahrez?

would love to hear some thoughts

      reply fail below:

I'd vote selling Barkley. He spent most of last week's game covering for Baines @LB. EVE are all right-sided these days with everything going through Deulofeu and Barkley seems to have lost his spot in the hole behind Lukaku. He might end up helping out with marking Mahrez this weekend...yikes.

I was faced with a similar decision (Surman v Deulofeu) and opted to get rid of Surman.

I figured that A) Christmas is a good time to have a benching headache given the chance of rotation, B) Everton's fixtures get worse after the Christmas season so that will be a perfect time to drop Deu and revert to a 3-4-3 anyway, C) it will let me opt for one of the more attacking Bournemouth mids when I revert.

I'd sell Barkley too for Marhez and play Bolasie who looks to have the stats for imminent points haul. With 2FT you can even swop Suman for someone like Alli or one of the Bournemouth mids so you are cover with potential points on the bench if rotation for xmas

Don't forget SoT still need to be converted into goals. For example, you might rate Stoke more highly than their ticker value because Butland is doing exceptionally well at keeping the ball out of the net at the minute.

Complete load of tripe. He is almost a dead cert to take over at City from MP.

MP is to remain with CFG, either in South America, China now if we build a new team in the mould of NYCYFC, and Pep has been a shoe in for a number of months.

"He is almost a dead cert to take over at City from MP."

Based on what though? Based on City saying over and over they want him? Based on the fact that Txiki is there?

The papers have to bet on City simply because they've publicly pursued him all this time (disrespectful to Pellegrini IMO) and they don't have much to go on with United.

Trying to be as unbiased as possible, United seem a more attractive destination than City. Money is no problem, history and prestige are there, and they're already half set-up for Pep's possession-based style of football (obviously LVG's style is like Pep Jr in terms of threat).

Barcelona -> Bayern Munich -> Manchester City

one of theeeese is not like the other

I'm not gonna go back and forth.

Pep to City is from what I know (AND NOT PAPER TALK), basically a done deal.

Exactly. He could easily go to either club but based on direct interaction with him it appears he did hope to coach United one day. It wouldn't be the first stupid thing the United board did if they passed on him, though.

Think most of his supposed desires to coach United at some point are probably BS as well tbh. All I really see are both United and City fans desperate for him to sign because they're not convinced with their current managers.

Plenty if not most City fans would prefer Simeone or Ancelotti, so, wrong there.

Plenty want Pep as well, but the general point stands that there's desperation to replace the current manager.

I guess it depends on the circumstances with which Graham Hunter got his info. If he spoke directly to Pep/Pep's team then it's not surprising to hear he hoped to one day coach United. By the same token, it could be a general "yeah that would have been cool" more than a driven desire.

It's no secret that Fergie met with him, but he did so before actually planning to retire so it's also no surprise Pep just went to Bayern in the end.

He gets those big points from time to time. Like Barkley. So if so many ppl can hv Barkley y not him. Everton maybe scoring goals but they themselves r not such a great team. Norwich gave them a run for their money in the 2nd half. It's all about perspective.

Think u need to go back to before the season started and assess him as a player. Newcastle lost or drew all their pre-season games but he was involved in almost all the goals scored. If Newcastle really find their Mojo, then he is the guy to have in ur team.

In same dillemma. Have all 3 players. The fact that u still hav Willian in ur team is coz u want to play him this week. Out of Kane & KDB, it's a tough call, but since I have Arsenal players, I wanted an involvement in The Soton-Spurs game as well, so opted for Kane.

I really depends on how you want to structure your team. If you want 5 solid mids for the christmas period to deal with rotation, Stanislas is the way to go. If you're ok with 4, Ramsey could be very good. I prefer the latter.

Apart from one statistic, I'm struggling to see what is floating your boat.

Kane for Norwich or Aguero for Sunderland?

      Leaning towards Aguero.

Same dilemma for me. Waiting until after the weekend, but leaning towards Harry.

Kane. Will give Aguero a few more games to make sure he's fully fit

Looking at the way the fixtures fall I really don't think Aguero will play much of a roll against Sunderland, wedged between Arsenal and Leicester away. Kane will be rested at some point, Norwich at home is probably the most likely being the easiest game Spurs have on paper but I think there's more chance of a Kane start than an Aguero start so I'll say Kane.

FWIW I don't think either will play on Boxing Day, and if they do it'll be limited minutes from the bench.

All pure guess work of course.

Good to know I'm not going mad then! 😀 I saw it, replied and nothing appeared and the puppy had gone.
