Just one player fell off the Suspension Tightrope over the weekend’s nine fixtures. Sunderland’s Jack Rodwell was the guilty party, earning a fifth booking of the season for a foul on Pedro early in the second half of the Black Cats’ defeat at Chelsea.

Rodwell’s caution comes in just his fourth league start and with just 647 minutes under his belt this term, he has incurred the referee’s wrath every 130 minutes – in comparison, Jack Colback, who sits on seven yellows, has been booked every 157 minutes.

The midfielder will therefore miss a nostalgic trip back to the Etihad on Boxing Day before being back in contention in time for the Gameweek 19 home encounter with Liverpool.

Elsewhere, we saw a quartet of new arrivals to the Tightrope as the disciplinary halls were decked to excess in true festive fashion. Gary O’Neil and Jose Fonte were the early additions from Saturday’s 3pm kick offs – along with their respective team-mates Seb Bassong, Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse, they will need to avoid another booking over the next two rounds of fixtures.

In yesterday’s late match, Aston Villa’s Ashley Westwood and goal scorer Jordan Ayew both collected a fourth caution of the campaign. This means there are now 15 clubs represented by at least one player who is a booking short of a single-match ban – they have to be on their best behaviour until New Year’s Day, when the threshold is extended to ten yellows.

Ahead of tomorrow evening’s clash between Arsenal and City, then, there are now 74 players still at risk of a one-match ban – 25 sit on the Tightrope, 41 require cards in both their remaining matches and a further eight from tomorrow’s Emirates encounter could yet succumb to suspension by earning three consecutive cautions. Essentially, then, every club still has players in danger.

In terms of further suspensions, West Brom duo James McClean and Salomon Rondon will sit out the next three Gameweeks after both were dismissed for violent conduct during Saturday’s 2-1 home loss to Bournemouth. The pair will therefore be missing the remainder of the festive programme against teams in the bottom half of the table, with a visit to Swansea on Boxing Day preceding back-to-back home clashes against Newcastle and Stoke.

Post-match, Tony Pulis was highly critical of both players, putting McClean’s challenge down to retaliation, before slamming Rondon’s altercation with the Cherries’ Dan Gosling:

“It was a reckless challenge from McClean. The disappointing thing for me was that 30 seconds before that, Smith went over the top of the ball and caught McClean on the ankle. McClean has not let that go and has gone after him with the next challenge, unfortunately, and you can’t condone that. If Mike Dean had given a free-kick for the first challenge then the sending-off would not have happened…It (Rondon’s behaviour) was crazy, absolutely stupid. Rondon can’t do things like that. We’ve never had any inkling that he’s had anything like that in him since he has joined us. That’s the first time we’ve seen him react like that.

Only one player returns from suspension this week, with Leicester’s Robert Huth available for selection again after he served a one-match ban in the 3-2 win at Everton. Bastian Schweinsteiger sits out the last of a three-match suspension this time out as United make their way to Stoke.

were you saving for Kun? Not sure you need him immediately with 3 strikers on form.

I'd be tempted to upgrade Westwood -> Silva/Ramsey

or upgrade your defence... Moreno has been frustrating to own

Wasn't intentially saving for Kun just cheapies seem to be on form and agree no point bringing him in (yet)

Maybe Westwood to Silva but wouldn't like to bench Wijnaldum tbh.
Defence definitely could be improved but no one standing out as yet!

So, knowing this site and it’s posters like I do, I take it we’re all extremely hopeful of a Wijnaldum haul next match against Everton? 😀

I mean, it’s not like us to hold a grudge.. Or to knee-jerk a player out of our teams.. We regularly see our failed punts with their initial potential even AFTER they have failed us right?

We’re a patient breed us FFS managers..

I have the same midfield and attack except with Willian instead of Wij. I would probably do Ayew to Silva myself to have City attacking coverage.

I can see your team and mine have 12 common players.

This is my rival's squad from the weekend. On 74 so far, and 45k overall in his first season. Doesn't support anyone, never picked Kun/Alexis/Hazard, just spread his cash evenly across his team.. Look at his bench! He'd be ridiculed on here! At one time he had triple City defence!

    Food for thought!

    Cech
    Kolarov Toby Monreal
    Mata Ozil Barkley Mahrez(c)
    Ighalo Lukaku Vardy

I see people getting rid of Vardy to get Ighalo. Is that move really the way to go?

Vardy is still getting those points. Ighalo is too, but then I think with the form Leicester are in, you have to keep Vardy with Mahrez?

exactly, it's kind of a lottery. lots of people jumping ship but it's pretty sideways. I am considering Kane to Igloo this week but I don't know if i am chasing, Kane could go nuts and ill do Igloo to Kane next week then Igloo gets a haul....It's very hard to choose 3 from those 5 but maybe it's best to stick with the 3 you have and improve elsewhere in your'e team?

Aguero is a serious problem, I dismantled my team to bring him in a few weeks ago and all he did was get one blank then get injured.

Kane scoring this weekend makes him difficult to drop at home to Norwich and with Ighalo away to a possibly recovering Chelsea maybe this is not the week to get him in.

Ive had ighalo all this time but i would not take out any of vardy, kane or lukaku, especially away to chelsea this week.

But just look at him go. He just scores and scores and scores. Classic case of Form vs Fixture here. This season, Form has been battering the Fixtures like anything.

        1. djenzio
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 2 months ago

yes but Vardy has form too as does Kane and Lukaku so how can people justify dropping one of them?

it's a serious problem as I really want Ighalo in my team due to his form, I don't mind that he has tough fixtures as I think he will still score but my 3 strikers all have form and very good fixtures, maybe Kane's form is not as good as Ighalo's but surely his fixtures (should) make up for that?

            • 13 Years

Kane doesn't really have the form. 1 goal in 4 game is pretty bad imo.

              10 years, 2 months ago

yeah that's my issue with Kane is his form has dipped, but there was a hot topic indicating that without Dembele he is forced to come dip and the team in general is not as creative with Alli's poor passing/chance making.

it's just funny that I am considering Kane to Ighalo when Kane is home to Norwich and Ighalo is away to Chelsea!

That's not really describing the whole picture.
Kane had 3 games with Dembele out, where he was playing a different position.

Now that situation is rectified, and he scored, increased his box touches, SoT''s

That is there too and is the prime reason why I still have him. But then Dembele on field or not, Kane doesn't have the form. Form should be measured irrespective of who is on field and who is not imo.

Most have gone with Lukaku as 3rd. That would have made a very cheap front line if you bought at the right time, meaning you could probably have any combo of midfield and defence you wanted. If you drafted now, not so much, but still a budget striker line without any of the 10.0+ players.

I've gone with Kun, Vardy, Ighalo. Every week I've resisted Lukaku due to his previous habit of going dry for long periods. Bit of a mistake in hindsight!

Vardy's a problem for me because of his value gain since I bought him. Sometimes it's liberating to sell for a couple of game weeks and bank the profit. Then it's easier to make a decision to buy/sell on form rather than procrastinate because you're 'losing' TV.

I have always had a low TV cause I usually wait 4 days at least to make the transfers and pretty dull on jumping on bandwagons.

Having said that, it's a problem to me, TV later on in the season, especially the second half, is very important and this is where I normally miss out

More with hitting the WC button while drunk. Ditched Vardy and KDB to get Aguero and Lanzini, the week after I bought KDB back for Sanchez, then I had to sell Lanzini and Aguero for a hit. I had a 50/50 between Ramsey and Ighalo/Coutinho and Giroud, I chose the latter. I also benched 30 points last week, and benched Nyom again this week.

Just getting a lot of tight decisions wrong!

    Good Morning All,

What transfer would you make for the following with 1FT and £2.8M ITB? I'm struggling to see much temptation beyond getting another Arsenal player...

    Butland, Hennessey
    Dann Dawson Alderweireld Kompany Smalling
    Ayew Mahrez Barkley KDB Ozil
    Ighalo Vary Lukaku

    a) Smalling/Kompany > Bellerin/Dier/Wollshield/Shawcross
    b) Ayew > Coutinho/Alli/Ramsey/Bolasie/Cabaye/Sanchez
    c) Save
    d) Other?

    Many Thanks!

don't see why people are so keen to try and rid kdb from their teams? guy has blanked just twice in a row and one of those was a small sub cameo so basically just blanked once.

I really think the guy will be top 3 scoring mids come year end. I'm keeping and I would recommend others keeping too!

Is this front 8 good for the xmas period? I know there will be points on bench but hopefully covers any rotation.

    Mahrez Ozil KDB Sanchez Hazard

    Kane Ighalo Vardy.

Or do i need either Kun of lukaku?

700k OR right now (3 to go tonight though).

Shall I drop the idea of reaching 10k? We still have 21 GWs after this and I have all 3 basic chips in tact with the 2nd half WC.

no. bc of bench points coming on. ive got ozil and kdb and unless kdb smashes it its going to be a solid red for today. if either of kdb or ramsey gets a goal you'll prob be good for a green then.

Also, this seems like a very good time to play AoA chip.

Last 2 weeks (excluding this one) have seen really low number of clean sheets. The budget players seem to be doing good and top teams who are good defensively aren't.

This must be the time to pounce on the AoA chip, if you still have it intact? Bournemouth mids and Alli are really getting those returns in.

    1. Eden Hazardous
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 2 months ago

This might sound crazy but I am saving AOA for a DGW involving sides like Leicester , Newcaste , Bournemouth etc. who cant defend for their lives but their attackers are cheap...

There is no guarantee that such a week will come but still

      1. AK ⭐
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 2 months ago

        I did think about it, but then my reasoning to not play it at that times are;

        1) We don't know which teams will be involved for those DGWs.

        2) Assuming a season has, at most 3-4 DGWs, I'd want to use Triple Captain and Bench Boost in at least 2 of those. Since only 1 chip can be played each week, I just think AoA isn't made for the DGWs, BB and TC chips have huge potentials over this.

These factors above, with the form the lower table slides are in, I just think now is a better time to play AoA now.

I will hold and hope....last year if one had played AOA during the Villa-QPR DGW , he would have got a lot of points......while most are using their AOA , it might be a nice differential to have later on

A better case could be made for the BB chip to be played in the same week. Gives you 15 players. 4 more than the AoA Chip. You'd have definitely outplayed the AoA chip.

But we will definitely have more than 2 DGWs

Most of the times, there are 3. I'd want to play BB, TC and possibly the 2nd WC for those weeks over AoA.

Need a little advice everyone. 2FT and 0.6m ITB.

    Butland - McCarthy

    Kolorov - Moreno - Smalling - Francis - Souare

    Hazard - KDB - Ozil - Mahrez - Stanislas

    Kane - Vardy - Lukaku

I am thinking Vardy and Hazard -----> Aguero and Alli

My Fwd's and mids doing well, would liek to get in Ramsey, but no one obviosu to take out, so going to hold another GW (unless he hauls tonight) and use 2FT's to improve defence that keeps letting me down.

    Bultand/hennessy - no problems there
Nyom (brilliant), Bellerin AND Moreno (too many 2's and 1's), Francis (3rd bench), Smalling (ok)

Moreno defo has to go, in 17GW's he's scored more than 2 on only 3 occasions.
Francis, I should upgrade for the Xmas shuffle.
