Another rubbish week for me, falling out of the top 500k. Quite a fall from last year.

Is it too late to bring in Ozil? And what do I do with this team?

    Bank 4.5m, 2FT

    DDG
    Kolarov, Bellerin, Moreno
    KDB(c), Mahrez, Barkley, Bolasie
    Lukaku, Kane(v), Giroud

    Hennessey, VVD, Simpson, Surman

Best I can come up with is one of these, but I've not gotten many right so far!

    A) Giroud -> Aguero(c)
    B) Bolasie -> Ozil/Wally/Silva
    C) VVD -> Aldy (bench Moreno)
    D) Surman -> Alli (bench Bolasie)
    E) VVD & Giroud -> Aldy & Aguero(c)

Yeah it feels that way. Tried to be clever and look for a differential route to make up ground but Ozil just keeps on delivering. Thinking it can perhaps wait a week though. Perhaps A this week and then bring in Ozil & Ramsey the week after?

Is it worth holding VVD-> Walker till GW 22.
Spurs next fixtures are [NOR wat eve LEI],
while Saints have [ARS whm nor WAT]
Personally i think spurs will only get 1 CS againt NOR, while saints have good oppurtunities at whm, nor and potentially watford if ighalo fades off. The saints defence surely cant get any worse and im sure its worked on in the training ground. Plus VVD goal threat of course :). What do you lads think?

@Balders - Just read Doolittle's piece on Wenger. It's great stuff. With every passing season my respect for him increases. I hope the Premier League is graced with more managers like him that can build a legacy and bring a principled and beautiful approach to the game. It's great to have Pochettino and now Klopp in the league. The likes of Mourinho, Guardiola and LVG can do one for all I care 🙂

What I disagree with in the article is the idea that Wenger is naive or too romantic. He sticks to his guns and does spend the money when he feels he needs to. Look at Ozil and Sanchez in recent years for example. Getting Cech in this season was a masterstroke that is being seriously underestimated because he didn't buy an outfield player. With the striker situation he feels he is covered with Giroud, Walcott and Welbeck (another shrewd piece of business, imo). In any case, who is available that will be an upgrade on those? I'll give you that a DM was needed and Schneiderlin would have been perfect. But even then, just look at the talk on here about Coquelin being crucial to Arsenal's clean sheets. Wenger clearly knows his players better than the rest of us

Certainly not the pioneer but his teams are good to watch I'll give you that. For me he has yet to build a legacy, really take a club forward like Wenger has done at Arsenal, Fergie did at United, Klopp did with Dortmund.

Also, at Barcelona he inherited an exceptional pool of players. True, he made their play more attractive but I'm sure even Harry Redknapp couldn't fail to get Messi, Iniesta, Xavi et al playing like kings.

At Bayern he took over treble winners. What did he really add to them?

This. He is like a teenager playing football manager and picking the best team. He still needs to prove himself to an extent. Taking over any English team and making them dominant would be one way

              • 12 Years
              10 years, 1 month ago

I think you're underestimating what he did at Barca slightly. Yes it was good timing to come in at the same time Messi started to blossom, but he took a team that had just come 3rd on 67 points and a +33 goal difference to winning the next 3 La Liga's scoring 87, 99 & 96 points with goal differences of +70, +74 & +74 and also winning the Champions League twice in those 3 years.

Possibly but you may also be underestimating the impact having world class players can have. Liverpool, an otherwise OK team with a hopeless manager almost won the Premier League because of one Luis Suarez. Barcelona boasted a number of world class players and have one of the best scouting/academy structures in the game. Can Guardiola bring a club forward on limited resources? The Jury's still out for me on him tbh.

Maybe but It was also a side that had Sturridge fit and Sterling playing out of his skin. I'm giving Guardiola the benefit of the doubt here as he also won Barcelona B promotion from tier 3 to tier 2 in his first year of coaching and because he does really push the envelope tactically whether or not it actually has that much affect I like to think it does.

      🙂

Well that's the thing, fan opinion yoyos wildly between "In Wenger We Trust" and "WHAT THE **** ARE YOU DOING?" My general impression is the squad is always a man or two short because he wants to trust fading stars on perma-injuries to come good. Knowing Welbeck was out til Christmas, we didn't necessarily need to upgrade Giroud but at least get another plodder to knock in goals. I'd have hugely welcomed spending £12/15m to put Charlie Austin on our bench this year. Similarly I'm not sold of Flamteta and again would have loved to see another player come in to sit on the bench. Cech was indeed an excellent buy and I think most of us knew it was a massive coup when it happened but that doesn't excuse squad shortcomings elsewhere for me. At the end of the day I've got all the time in the world for Wenger for his style and his conviction but that won't stop me pulling my hair out several times a season!

I agree, like most, that you are one or two players short. But Wenger is looking to make sure that extra player is the perfect one. Would Benzema really have added to what Giroud is already giving you this season? Probably not. Wenger is looking for an upgrade - he bought Sanchez and Ozil and wanted Suarez remember? He would've been the perfect forward particularly for Arsenal's style of play.

As for Arsenal fans, you should watch this every so often to remind yourself of how ridiculous your fans are 🙂

          • 12 Years
          10 years, 1 month ago

We bought Ozil because Liverpool said no on Suarez I think, I doubt we'd have bought both in the same window tbh or if we had, we wouldn't have got Sanchez the following year. God listen to my Arsenal transfer pessimism 😛

Looking for the perfect solution is why I have so much time for him, but would it really have killed us to get Austin and put him on the bench as insurance? When our attacking options off the bench against Man City reads
          03 Gibbs
          15 Oxlade-Chamberlain
          45 Iwobi
          54 Reine Adelaide
I'm not really inspired with confidence.

Also notice in THAT 13/14 season how we were leading the league until Ozil and Walcott got injured and beyond that our team just looked a shadow of its former self.

Get Ozil. Not having any of the Lukaku, Vardy, Ighalo, Kane means you will only keep going down when they score due to massive ownership

My attack is Vardy, Ighalo and Kane. This is leaving Ramsey tempting.

    Repost:

1- Still do not own Ozil
2- None of my players attack and midfielder are differential with less than 10% property.

For those who find Themselves in the same situation, it is more feasible to have Ramsey instead of Ozil?

    * I will buy one of the two in place of Sanchez in #GW18. I bet on a quick lap which unfortunately did not happen

I'm in thailand. Doing a lot of drinking but also taking in the sights and historical landmarks. Will be hitting vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in the new year.

Any suggestions of cool things to see and do?

Pho in Vietnam is delicious. Goi Cuon also amazing.

Thai street food is great. Definitely get yourself some curry, Tom Yum and Pad Thai

I would suggest getting to some of the outlying islands. Phi phi and samet are two favourites of mine but samui is good if you want a bit more upmarket.

The main thing is... Food! Go to the restaurants full of Thai people. Authentic Thai food is amazing. If you like jungle/ elephants etc check out the north. Chiang Mai is great for a few days

Think Ivanovic safest option. Cahill may come back for a few games. Terry gave an improved performance. Think his performance will be most improved after Mou's departure.

Could use some advise with a few things to do with defenders...

    1. What do we think of United now? Was contemplating koscielny > Smalling now not so sure?

2.Ok to double up on spurs defence? Moreno > Dier is my other option, already have toby. I have Ward and Simpson so can rotate when spurs have a tougher fixture.

    Butland Hennessey
    Toby Koscielny Moreno Ward Simpson

Ward is a good back up. Play him for a couple of GWs. Pool will eventually be ok and Moreno is a great attacking threat too.

Kane and Ayew to Kun and Alli (-4)?

I have enough cash to do any independent transfer but thinking Alli will give me Spurs attacking coverage vacated by Kane.

yes their fixtures are why i kept the double up with dawson through all their bad run, but they dissapointed last week, that could be however due to Bournemouths no found attacking skills more so than broms weakness in defence?

I think so, Bournemouth are looking hot at the moment.

not sure what to do about the ighalo situation.. havent owned him all season and he is killing my rank. do i bring him now or wait a few more weeks?

Same situation, my front 3 is Lukaku, kane, Aguero.

Would only consider Kane > Ighalo but then Spurs play Norwich next. Also Ighalo has tough ffixtures.

Maybe wait a week and see how watford so against new Chelsea?

No point getting rid of Aguero now, Lukaku is in fantastic form so the only option would be kane>Ighalo.

Give it a week, if Ighalo scores against Chelsea and Kane blanks then make the switch 🙂 I probably will be doing that, will also free up some cash

The Williams owners could always bench him. Crack the 100 at only move from 77 to 24K is a bit rough.
