New Year, new aspirations, same old voices.

The first ScoutCast of 2016 is brimming with determined talk of banishing old habits which, in all honesty, will likely evaporate in the weeks to come. That’s particularly true of my no-Aguero policy, which feels even more flimsy after taking in the musings of Jonty and Andy in this episode.

Man City’s hitman and faltering away form comes under the microscope via another batch of community questions, along with an assessment of Dele Alli, Kane without Dembele and the allure of the French fancy that is Dimitri Payet.

We rinse through that little lot, before looking ahead to the floodlit excitement that awaits us in Gameweek 21.

This episode was first aired live on our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening.

You can view the ScoutCast in full via the larger player below (with a minor edit due to a technical hitch mid-cast).

Those who prefer the distilled audio version can treat their ears via this link or the smaller player below.

that being a better time hardly rules out anything. i've no idea if he'd sign or not, but hard to rule anything out. point being wages in premier league in general are higher and footballers/agents make their decisions on that alone often as not

Really confident with this setup. Would love Ivanovic instead of Azpi but would mean downgrading elsewhere when i'm happy with the rest. Maybe someone else instead of Azpi like Williams or Wolly.

Interesting team mate. Have posted mine below if you have any thoughts - would appreciate hearing any!

Re: yours, Can't fault the back line or midfield, but up front seems very heavy. You intend to bench one of Mahrez and Alli each week? Thoughts on Elliot if you want to go uber cheap?

I appreciate he's not got much love on these forums, but save points + the occasional BPS for a keeper that you will almost never play...why waste more $$?

      Courtois
      Rangel - Cresswell - Alderweireld
      Ozil - Mahrez - KDB - Payet
      Aguero - Ighalo - Costa

(Elliot, Bellerin, Nyom, Alli) (0.7 itb)

      1. Salah’s Sonnet
        • 14 Years
        10 years, 3 months ago

Cheers man, really happy with it after much tinkering 🙂 Yeah i had considered Elliot, especially if newcastle have a DGW coming up, he's still an option, do also agree that he's a good money saver.

One of mahrez or Alli in the future will be downgraded to make way for Sanchez, too much love for the guy and if he hits the ground running he's in, so i don't plan on benching Alli or Mahrez each week for too long.

        Your team:

Really like the Courtois option, cheapest and most reliable starter for chelsea defence coverage, i too considered him but opted for Adrian for upcomig fixtures.

Also like the defence, nyom is a great asset to have and Cresswell is an excellent pick, would of got him if i didn't go for adrian. Only fault i see is Rangel, but with Curtis favouring him he looks a good punt, he may miss one or two games but you have good defenders to step in anyhow.

Forward line i like also, can't really fault any of your team picks to be honest, i wanted to take a punt on Costa, but just feel i've too much $$$ tied up in lukaku to let him go just yet for Costa.

0.7 itb to play with is also amazing with the team you have, overall big thumbs up man 🙂

haha cheers mate! then KDB won't be your entry to Sanchez? do you have a rough plan in place?

I actually had no reason to WC this week, team was fine. However I only get leave off work for a couple weeks a year, and don't ahve the time to tinker later round DGW time..At the end of the day, reason has to play a part lol!

^ this means however that I am itching to make some aggressive/bold bets ie. Mahrez -> Sanchez somehow...

          1. Salah’s Sonnet
            • 14 Years
            10 years, 3 months ago

very welcome. Yeah maybe i should of elaborated with the Sanchez plan....KDB would most likely make way for Sanchez, but should i want to keep him i could let go of Mahrez if he tails off and say get someone like Stanislas and do a straight swap in Ozil > Sanchez. KDB is actually a really good placeholder though, so yeah, would most likely be him that makes way, which actually does leave me with the benching headache of Mahre & Alli haha!

Yeah i understand, work takes up a lot of time, and to be honest, the way this season has gone, something needs to shake up, i do well every season but THIS season! my lord! sitting at just under 600k! lol! So i just decided to play it as things need to change and fast!

haha bold bets aren't a bad thing considering how this season goes, my ML leader has never owned Mahrez or KDB and he's almost 200 points ahead! Comical stuff, but losing Mahrez isn't insane, especially if he goes off form, which i can see him doing, just a gut feeling, but want to hang onto him just for the time being as he's so highly owned, solely for that reason.

Also - thoughts on Simpson? I believe Leicester will pick up more CS as they look to consolidate their top-6 spot, but not sure if Simpson is nailed long-term (and then you have a niggly transfer to make).

Appreciate thats a kettle vs pot situation with my Rangel pick, but it's worth considering!

          1. Salah’s Sonnet
            • 14 Years
            10 years, 3 months ago

Simpson seems to have definitely nailed down that first choice spot in my opinion, and Leicester may start to turn more of their attention to defence to qualify for champs league or top 6 like you say. I do think Simpson is a good bench player to have.

Rangel is defo worth considering, and if he continues to replace Naughton i'll be on board for sure.

And when you read this from scout there is decent hard based facts:

"Having blanked in his last three matches, Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez slips down to third place in our rankings. The Algeria international has also only managed four shots from inside the box over as many Gameweeks, three of which were penalties."

I've been wrestling all week with whether or not to put him in my WC team and it's been killing me. Losing 0.4m on Lukaku is just putting me off from a short-term swap and Spurs home clash against Sunderland is putting me off a Kane swap.

Also the lack of expensive high performing midfielders coupled with low-mid price midfielders doing the business means we can afford to spend a lot of money upfront!

          Saturday line up:
Hart, Clichy, Demichelis, Kompany, Zaba, Garcia, YYT, Nasri, Milner, Aguero Dzeko
Silva rested, Aguero scored then injured after 28 minutes
Dzeko 2 goals, YYT 1 assist

          Weds line up:
Hart, Kolarov, Demichelis, Kompany, Zaba, Garcia, YYT, Silva, Nasri, Milner, Dzeko
          No Aguero, Silva does nothing
Dzeko 2 goals, YYT goal and assist.

Dzeko (C) + YYT vs Aguero (C) + Silva was over a 50 point swing.

Dzeko also got an assist in gw38 too

I'm in a similar boat and confident I have a chance to catch up. I've done it 3 times before and normally finish in top 10k other than once(16k).

It's this run in that's key-stick with it and save your chips for the dgw's(there will be at least one following league cup finalists and the weather is due to turn next week...

Keep building up value, take the odd captain risk on differentials with the potential for big hauls. Plan carefully for the dgw and make sure you have the top 6 players from each side with a double. Don't lose your nerve-you can catch up 60 points in the last 3-4 gameweeks.

          1. The Raging Bull
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 3 months ago

my approach is to set a target of 10-15 pts (realistic number) gain each week, excluding correct captain pick. Throw in correct captain pick and you can overturn a 110pt defecit in less than 6 weeks.

I would focus on the strength of your team and differentials(but keeping the obvious high scorers)-problem is each week can be up and down vs ML leader.

Hey mate. Have my WC still and really thinking of using it a week before a DGW to prepare my team to have as many DGW players as possible and then Bench Boost for the DGW.

Use my Triple Cqptain then closer to the end of the season when there'll be another DGW team and pin it on an Aguero or Sanchez if they have a DGW.

Interesting that Kane is thought highly of here. 11 goals in 20 games is okay but take away the hat trick and the couple of braces he has been bang average for my money.

    13 blanks in 20 gws.

Can any of the fanboys give me a compelling argument as to why I should bring him in for Vardy?

Not keen on Aguero either but it's either him or Kane I will be bringing in.

He is the main goal threat in a very good Spurs side, and Leicester and vardy have/are dropping off.
Also it's not fair to include his 8 game barren spell at the beginning of the season, he missed pre season and that never helps.
Also boasts a ridiculous amount of shots on target.

Take away the hat tricks and braces and pretty much any striker isn't gonna be great. Lol.

Quite... Aguero's numbers look all sorts of grim with that Newcastle game removed

If you aren't keen on Kane or Aguero get someone else its not rocket science

As a Spurs fan and Kane owner I probably wouldn't get him in if I didn't have him (and had Alli) The 2 home games look good (he scored a hattrick last year at home against Leicester in 2nd half of season when Leicester were on fire!) so I wouldn't want to get rid for fear of him exploding in one/both of those games.

He's an incredible player who is good in every aspect of his game but he sometimes doesn't get forward enough but he's definitely a great fantasy asset. 27 goals in 2015 proves that; it's just this year there have been some unreal performances from the likes of Ighalo, Vardy and Lukaku that make Kane's 11 in 20 seem distinctly average!

Was toying with either him or Kane for Costa with money over frm Coleman transfer and have aguero so different front 3 than norm.

It would be too early for me if West Ham didn't have an FA cup game, but they do. More game time for Payet 😎

depends on the specifics, those choices can swing either way. I you're looking to get one in for the other I'd hold the FT

At moment I am thinking hold
My original thought was giroud to Kane, but getting swayed by all this dembelle missing talk, which I told myself I shouldn't do.

I was looking at similar but the LFC defensive situation is swaying me to hold personally.

Depends how the form forward has been performing against good defences, if they are seemingly "fixture proof" then the form forward, however if they have been a "flat-track bully" then it's more of a toss up
