Next up this Monday evening, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article and assess the leading captaincy contenders for the weekend ahead. We take a three-part approach that includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

In the wake of his match-winner against Watford last Gameweek and FA Cup goal and assist at Norwich, Sergio Aguero surges to the summit of the Captain Poll with 34% of the vote. A home tie against Everton could propel the Argentine back into the essential bracket, given that the Merseysiders have managed just two clean sheets in their last 14 league matches. Everton’s inability to batten down the hatches also finds Kevin De Bruyne (8%) – who’s produced 16 points in each of his last two home starts – among the top five selections.

Harry Kane occupies the silver-medal berth with 13% of voters taking the plunge. Although Spurs’ premier marksman carded five blanks in his last seven outings, he’s recorded two braces in four home fixtures ahead of Leicester City’s visit and also netted against Claudio Ranieri’s men in yesterday’s cup draw.

With three goals and one assist in two league starts, Diego Costa (10.7) has re-emerged as a contender on the Fantasy market. The Spain international was also amongst the goals in yesterday’s cup win over Scunthorpe and, if he can shrug off the knock that forced him off, could take advantage of a West Bromwich Albion outfit that has notched just one clean sheet in their last 10 match-ups.

Having sealed his return from injury with a couple of recent sub appearances, Dimitri Payet (6%) charts in the top five. Prior to his two-month layoff, the former Marseille playmaker bagged four goals and three assists in eight starts – underlining his capacity for attacking returns before a trip to Bournemouth this Tuesday. Slaven Bilic has revealed he is “99% certain” that Payet will be unleashed from the start at Dean Court, suggesting he could get back amongst the points once again.

Mesut Ozil (5%) and Odion Ighalo (4%) are next in line following their rare blanks in the previous wave of fixtures. The former has contributed to 56% (three goals, 16 assists) of Arsenal’s goals this term and travels to face a Liverpool unit that’s riddled with defensive injuries, while the latter boasts seven goals and two assists in seven outings as Watford gear up for a trip to Southampton

Romelu Lukaku and Riyad Mahrez look real differential candidates for Gameweek 21, with just 2% and 1% of the votes cast respectively. Lukaku is expected to recover from a minor ankle problem in time for Everton’s trip to the Etihad and bagged the winner against City in last week’s Capital One Cup win. Meanwhile, confidence in Mahrez has decreased due to three successive blanks, though the Algerian has still managed five double-figure hauls on his travels ahead of the trip to Tottenham.

I'd play Sagna and Koscielny in place of Toby and Azpi personally.

If you had to just pick one of Sagna or Koscielny which would it be? As I am inclined to see a Leicester goal.

Do West Brom really have a goal in them? I suppose Berahino is due his first start in a while

        Thanks for your thoughts

Sagna if I had to choose one. I just don't trust Chelsea yet and WBA did score in 7 of their last 8 matches including against Arsenal, Spurs and Pool, so I can see a goal there.

You've gone for a very strong defence. How often do you play 4 or 5 at the back in a GW?

Never but I've not had the transfers to downgrade yet, it is my intention next week. All started from holding Azpi as a bench player when he had lost me value as I was sure it would return eventually and no Aguero need gave me the cash.

Haha see above it is a bit of a problem which needs rectifying as I can't do any upgrading in my attack anymore (0.8m ITB) so too much value on the bench

With or without the presser you play Lukaku. Even if he had a broken leg you play him and let auto-sis do their thing.

Lukaku has scored in like 9 of his last 11 games, and scored against Man City last week. He is fixture proof especially against a known suspect defence.

West ham on the flip side have been tight recently and Bournemouth haven't scored in 3.

      Lukaku MUST be in first

That's the issue. All defenders have tough fixtures. I'm benching Toby for Simpson this week. Crazy I know but I can see Leicester winning against Spurs. Expect all of them to concede. So thinking about who concedes less.

    Thoughts on this wc team...

    Rudd - Hennessey
    Alderwereld - Cresswell - Ivanovich - Bennet - smith
    Mahrez - Ozil - stanislas - Payet - Kdb
    Aguero - Kane - Ighalo

I am aware I have no bench but if this team can bring in points over atleast 2 weeks I can then reassess with 2Ft.
    A. I have exact funds for this team. Go for it.
    B. Downgrade Ivan (not too Happy to do this) and upgrade a defender
    C. Downgrade Ivan to a 5.4 or less (please suggest, if less I could upgrade a defender/keeper too) and upgrade stanislas to Ali who will be benched.

Monreal... City may probably win but they will surely concede.

Janmaat is worrying although I wouldn't play Moreno or Morgan over him. GTG otherwise.

Is there a general consensus on when is best to use a bench boost chip?

I think ive a good chance at a full 15 playing if lukaku is deemed fit. Have a bit of a benching dilemma if all are fit.

Wondered if anybody thought there were real benefits to be had waiting for a DGW. I'd imagine I'll use my triple captain chip for the next DGW so would like to find out what you guys here this morning think??
    Thanks.

playing bench boost in a DGW gives you better chance of a great score than playing a triple cap on a DGW... Thats why its the most valuable chip.. have to save for a DGW imo

Scout predict that cedric has fallen in the pecking order behind both martina and yoshida now :/ I have held onto him as i fell soton will turn it roudnd defensively. Cedric was only out cos he was injured and yoshida was awful the games cedric was dropped for him. Its not like there defence was any better when cedric was out so it wrong of me to be optimistic that he will come back into the first 11? Also Cedric was on bench at FA cup surely if hes been dropped he would at least have started in FA Cup? ( although hes just come back from injury:/)
