It’s time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article once again this evening. As always, we bring you the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends, the watchlist and a look at the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 22 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs LiverpoolMichail Antonio
Arsenal vs NewcastlePetr Cech
Leicester vs BournemouthArtur Boruc
Man United vs SwanseaAshley Young
Norwich vs SouthamptonVadis Odijidja-Ofoe
Crystal Palace vs ChelseaDiego Costa
Sunderland vs Aston VillaJermain Defoe
West Brom vs StokeDarren Fletcher
Watford vs Man CityJose Holebas
Everton vs TottenhamDele Alli

The Sky reporters chose some rather left-field choices here, with only Petr Cech (22%) and Dele Alli (9%) having any significant ownership to trouble mini league positions greatly. Diego Costa comes back onto the radar with a new manager in tow. The Chelsea striker is showing signs of recapturing last season’s form – with just 6% ownership, he could be a canny differential in the coming months, providing he recovers from the injury that forced him off against Scunthorpe at the weekend.

Gameweek 22 Bonus Points

Just two goalkeepers picked up bonus last week – Simon Mignolet and Petr Cech were the two in question. The Arsenal shot stopper now sits level on bonus alongside Jack Butland (14).

In defence, seven players grabbed bonus, six for tackles and one for passes completed. Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta was the closet to earning both, narrowly missing out by just five completed passes – he now joins Erik Pieters and Simon Francis on 16 overall

In midfield, there were 14 beneficiaries in total: seven for tackling and eight for passes. Villa’s Idrissa Gueye was the man to grab both by the skin of his teeth, making exactly four tackles and 61 passes. Cesc Fabregas is the game’s highest bonus earner overall with 30 points so far.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
VardyLeicester7.311.4%
CabayeCrystal Palace7.23.3%
AyewSwansea6.53.1%
CoutinhoLiverpool8.42.9%
PelleSouthampton8.12.5%

A massive 11% have shipped Jamie Vardy this week after a slight dip in form and a groin injury, although the tireless forward still has a chance of featuring in midweek. Yohan Cabaye suffers from a one-match suspension last week and continues to see sales. Andre Ayew’s faltering form sees the popular out of position midfielder shipped ahead of what looks like a good run of fixtures, whilst injuries to Philippe Coutinho and Graziano Pelle mean they also are the target of around 3% of sales.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
OzilArsenal8.46.8%
IghaloWatford6.56.5%
LukakuEverton8.85.7%
KaneTottenham9.35.4%
AlliTottenham45.2%

All five of our names are fairly heavily owned as it is but continue to attract suitors off the back of great form. The template team is clearly in force with managers finally catching on to Odion Ighalo, with Jamie Vardy the likely makeweight.

The average amount of transfers remaining amongst the top 100 Sky managers currently is 8.9, whilst the top 1,000 average is 10.8 and the top 5,000 is 11.4.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options for the next six fixtures. These will be looking at three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Notes
It was a stinker of a week for me but I’m sure it was a similar story for many, as the majority of the popular picks failed to pick up points. One positive for my team is that I have Sergio Aguero and Dimitri Payet already in place and I expect quite a few will be tempted to burn up transfers to acquire the pair. Speaking of which, I have 16 swaps remaining and am confident my team can push for a top 1000 finish, given the average numbers of remaining transfers mentioned above.

Looking forward, I’m fairly happy with my team, with perhaps the acquisition of a Spurs defender my only real desire – Eric Dier is an option at just 5.7 but I’ll likely just sit tight for now, given the diminished returns from defenders in general.

Captain Plan
Short and sweet this week with just one skipper for me on the Wednesday. Currently I’m sat on Harry Kane for his home tie against Leicester but I may be tempted to hand Sergio Aguero the armband for City’s home match against Everton. The only drawback of this would mean I was locked into the Argentine for next week’s home encounter against Crystal Palace – the prospect of pinning your flag to one of the most injury-prone players around presents a slight risk, though at this stage, I feel its surely one worth taking.

Yeah I think that's what I'm doing, as Lukaku has the worst fixtures of the three or four I could sell (Sterling Walcott Vardy Kane).

Plan to sit tight then get Lukasku back next week with two I free's.

so you'rte hoping they will score then sell them? it never works that way, if kane does well you will not sell him ahead of those good fixtures

He's going to be wasted with you guys, but he's class. He's not precisely a defensive midfielder, he used to play as a winger, but has turned into an all round midfielder. He's a kind of physically strong (although not big), yet technical guy who can pretty much everything you want from a midfielder. Good with the ball, good at getting it back, good positioning. Truly a steal for £4.5M, I can't understand why he joins Newcastle though (no offence, but seen your recent player history and the game you play and the likelihood that you go down, the odds that this will be a success story are faint).

There's nothing wrong with the signing really. I just don't believe it will go well at Newcastle. I think it's good for the club, bad for the player.

      2. GrumblyBlowfish

Well it's promising that he can play football but so could Cabella and Thauvin before we signed them. If he's physically stronger than those two though hopefully he'll settle in a bit better. We'll probably play him at a striker anyway we have a tendency to play players out of position. Hopefully him and Voldemort can keep us up!

He's not be completely out of position as a striker. He used to play way up the wing, basically as a forward. And he can score. If you play him as OOP striker I might even have him in FPL.

I think we need a winger more than another CM. If we'd play him on the wing and put Sissoko in the middle where he's meant to be I think Sissoko would play a lot better.

Agreed. Although Thauvin could still be a perfectly good winger for you as well. Saivet can play basically any midfield or attacking position, but he's a winger by formation.

I think our scouting system is now based around players that get good on FM. Mitrovic, Mbemba, Thauvin, Cabella just to name a few.

From what I've read, he's been turned into a combative box to box midfielder this season and done extremely well. Never can tell with our French players, but I have a funny feeling he'll do a lot better than Thauvin and Cabella, who were too light weight.

Step up from Colback and Anita, in my opinion. He was also a football manager legend in 2007 era, cracking striker and the reason why my Bordeaux team won the Champions league.

        Let's hope he's better than Luque 😉

Hopefully he'll be a good signing I just wish we'd sign premier league proven players instead of dipping into the bargain bin of Ligue 1...

Those are classy players you get from there, you'd have hard time getting as good PL proven players. You need better management, and a more coherent transfer strategy.

True but something has to change. If we're not going to change the management then change the transfer policy. Surely they must realise that it's more of a risk than a reward but I think Ashley is still dreaming about the £15 million profit we made from Cabaye.

    (I'm Aguero-less)

I think I'm going KDC (c) instead of Kane... anyone else?

I just think Leicester are reasonably solid, and although they've slowed down going forward, they're still not conceding that many.

Everton on the other hand are conceding pretty freely, and KDB's home form is amazing.

I would captain KDB over Kane.

This has probably been asked already

Why on earth is Townsend playing for the U21s?!

      A) It's a gamble, both get into a lot of dangerous positions, but are not very good at finishing. I'd maybe sell Walcott, more exciting to own, but Ramsey will outscore him probably and he's cheaper.
      B) Adrian (better team)

I had Koscielny when he wasn't getting attacking returns and then got Bellerin when he stopped and Kos started. I think it's a gamble and depends on the form, Bellerin got 2 assists against Sunderland, maybe he's back to getting something upfront in the league again. I'd go for the cheaper one.
