Next up this Friday afternoon, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article, casting an eye over the captaincy conundrum ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we analyse the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

Captain Poll

With a couple of trips to Watford and Palace on his Gameweek 33 agenda, Romelu Lukaku is the standout armband candidate for this week.

A massive 75% have backed the Everton striker to serve up the points against a pair of defences with just two clean sheets apiece in their last 14 league outings. Lukaku – who has two goals and an assist in his previous four – has already scored or assisted against both teams earlier in the season.

City’s home encounter with West Brom has earned Sergio Aguero 8% of the votes. Having produced 25, 16 and 11-point hauls in front of his own fans, the Argentine is one of the few players capable of outscoring any double Gameweek option, though the Baggies have tightened up in recent matches and conceded just once in the last three.

Yannick Bolasie, Ross Barkley and Aaron Lennon sit around the 2%-mark for their respective doubles. Whilst four goals and an assist in seven underlines the latter’s form, Bolasie and Barkley have been highly unpredictable.

The Palace winger has earned points in only five of his 21 league outings ahead of back-to-back home clashes with Norwich and Everton, though the Canaries have one away clean sheet all season, whilst the Toffees have a couple of shut-outs in nine.

Although Barkley is more nailed-on than Lennon, he has netted in just one of his last 16 appearances – a pair of penalties against Newcastle in Lukaku’s absence back in Gameweek 24.

Elsewhere, the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane are backed by 1%. Like Aguero, all four are capable of explosive single-Gameweek hauls but can any of them realistically usurp Lukaku in our thinking?

Let’s start breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches and shed a little more light on the situation.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Wickham needs to be taken out of the equation, I think.

He won't start tomorrow, will he? He may get 20-25 minutes. The next game, who knows.

He's been out for too long. He'll need time to get match fit. (And he is terribly injury prone to boot).

Thanks for comments so far. I think I'm going to take a risk on Bolasie, because I'm chasing in my ML. Does this look alright? 7 blanks in GW35, so will need to take one hit to field 11. Will probably transfer out Bolasie for GW34.

Here's my current WC team with the BB for GW34:

    Mingnolet Robles
Bellerin Gabriel Lovren (or Sakho?) Ward Jagielka
Ozil De Bruyne Coutinho Payet Lingard
    Aguero Lukaku Mitrovic

Alternatively, I was thinking about swapping out De Bruyne, Ozil, Ward and Jagielka for Barkley, Sanchez, Dann and Dawson. Any thoughts?

What will be the par score for those playing bench boost in GW34? What % will break the 200 GW pts barrier?

If you have 15 DGWers that's effectively 32 games (counting your captain twice). Of course many will have less than 15 and there will be injuries and DGW players who only get one match but there are some tasty fixtures in that lot.

I think 150 will be par with about 7% breaking 200 (only counting those playing their BB chip).

    1. Obi-1 Kenobi-0

Less than 0.5% (Less than 20,000 players) imo. Too hard to assume it will be a week where all the big names score the points and the peripherals keep quiet.

    Can anyone help with this?

Logged into FPL today to see point gap to my nearest ML rival as I'm leading at the moment, but the league has vanished from my list of leagues. Text a mate that's in same league and he says the league is still there, my team isn't showing up on his list of teams but he remains second but with no team ahead of him. Very strange.
This every happen to anybody else?? And how do I fix it if it has? Thanks

You make some very good points, not expecting KdB to get 90, whereas Kun will.

However, KdB has 2 goals in 2 games and hasn't played at home yet, where he loves a haul 🙂

Just having a bit of a punt, Kane is another option, as is Mahrez, but I really don't trust a non-motivated Trollkaku 😛

Rooney may return for United, but he is no fly in the ointment for Martial. He would be the main man up front. LVG owes England nothing.

Same same? Or is there a winner winner-chicken dinner?

    A: Smalling + Steven Taylor
    B: Darmian + Morgan
    C: Rojo + Clichy
