It’s time for our final Sky Sports Focus article of the 2015/16 season this Friday afternoon.
As always, we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team’s progress.

Gameweek 40 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

Fixture MoTM
Norwich vs Man United Juan Mata
Aston Villa vs Newcastle Ciaran Clark
Bournemouth vs West Brom Claudio Yacob
Crystal Palace vs Stoke Dwight Gayle
Sunderland vs Chelsea Jermain Defoe
West Ham vs Swansea Andre Ayew
Leicester vs Everton Andy King
Tottenham vs Southampton Steven Davis
Liverpool vs Watford Joe Allen
Man City vs Arsenal Fernandinho
West Ham vs Man United Dimitri Payet
Norwich vs Watford Nathan Redmond
Sunderland vs Everton Lamine Kone
Liverpool vs Chelsea Eden Hazard

Gameweek 40 Bonus Points

Seven goalkeepers picked up bonus this week. Sunderland’s Vito Mannone was the stand out once again after picking up bonus in both his fixtures – incredibly, he leads the way for keepers overall going into the final game of the season, with 18 bonus points from just 19 starts.

In defence, 12 players grabbed bonus; eight for tackles and five for completed passes. Liverpool youngster Kevin Stewart was the man to collect both. Simon Francis is the top scoring defender in terms of bonus with 28 points – nearly the equivalent of six clean sheets.

In midfield, there were 24 beneficiaries in total: 13 for tackling and 13 for passes. Cesc Fabregas managed passing bonus in both Chelsea’s fixtures and tackling bonus once to earn an additional six. His total of 70 bonus is far and away the best of any player and is the equivalent of 14 goals.

Wayne Rooney’s midfield role meant he completed four tackles this time around and picked himself up an additional two.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

Name Team Value % of Managers
Huth Leicester 5.2 7.2%
Ozil Arsenal 8.4 6.6%
Alli Tottenham 4.0 6.3%
Kane Tottenham 9.3 4.7%
Drinkwater Leicester 4.1 3.6%

Robert Huth, Del Alli and Danny Drinkwater were all subject to an exodus over the last few days, though the latter is available for selection this Sunday after serving a one-match ban in Leicester’s win over Everton. Mesut Ozil has now recovered from the hip problem that forced him to miss Arsenal’s draw at the Etihad, whilst many parted company with Harry Kane due to Tottenham’s lack of a double Gameweek last time out.

Top Transfers In

Name Team Value % of Managers
Defoe Sunderland 7.5 5.1%
Vardy Leicester 7.3 3.8%
Payet West Ham 6.2 3.3%
Noble West Ham 5.8 2.9%
Morgan Leicester 4.9 2.7%

Jermain Defoe and West Ham duo Dimitri Payet and Mark Noble all featured twice in the previous round of fixtures. Wes Morgan offered Huth owners a like-for-like replacement as a route into Leicester’s defence, whilst Jamie Vardy was also a popular pick after serving a two-match suspension prior to the home encounter against Everton.

Top Five Captains Picked

Name Team Value % of Managers
Aguero Man City 10 14.3%
Kane Tottenham 9.3 8.6%
Sanchez Arsenal 9.7 5.5%
Vardy Leicester 7.3 5.2%
Hazard Chelsea 9 5.1%

The average amount of transfers remaining amongst the top 10 Sky managers currently is 0.1, whilst the top 100 is 0.9, the top 1,000 is 0.37 and the top 5,000 is 0.5974

My Team

Hart
Cathcart Walker Dier
Alli Coutinho Mahrez Payet
Costa Kane Sanchez

ITB: 0.4m
Transfers remaining: 0/40
Last week’s points: 50
Overall points: 2,190
Rank: 784

Notes

I’m currently positioned inside the top 1,000 as we head into Sunday’s final Gameweek. Compared to recent seasons, in particular, it’s been poor, though – there are always lessons to learn, of course, and hopefully I will place a little more trust in the lower-valued players next time out.

For the final Gameweek I’ll be lucky to have nine players, given that Diego Costa and Dele Alli are sidelined through injury and suspension respectively. With Alexis Sanchez still not overly popular amongst the top players, I could remain in a respectable position if I hand him the armband at home to Villa.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our Fantasy Football Scout League is sitting in first place in the rankings at present. With one Gameweek to go, we look set to take home the title of “Top League” once again.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 18:30 SkySports 3 where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football alongside Steve Walsh and Ian Marshall who will be picking their all-time Leicester City #One2Eleven

It was because you were swearing. But you were making a valid point that I thought would be unfair to unapprove.

Best thing in that situation was to remove the swear word.

That defence will be rested for the final though. Also Southampton still need to secure Europa league so think they will be motivated.

        Speroni
        Kelly Mariappa Delaney Soare

But I could get a different 5.8m striker. Ighalo, Deeney, Iheanacho?

        1. Frank Black

I'm considering going with Iheanacho(that would allow me to get Sanchez back) but if i had to go for a Saints player i'd go for Manè(if he's fit, that is). Ighalo and Deeney have only scored in the last game, i wouldn't trust them. Iheanacho, Rashford, Martial and maybe even a punt on Son.

It was certainly decent. Compared to most but I had memories of it being better. I guess I got Payet GW 2 which improved things a lot.

Then Sagna GW 3. I was around 25k back then and most were struggling

By GW 10 I was rocking along at 635 in the world so it was certainly a good foundation. I got it a little wrong after that

      Ruddy
      Azpilicueta Koscielny Morgan
      Walcott Hazard Mane Ozil
      Wilson Benteke Rooney

      Butland Coates Fletcher Steven Taylor.

this got me 31 points...but looking at it now I'd actually be ok going into GWK 38 with that XI. The bench is terrible and in an ideal world I'd swap Rooney for Martial - but other than that I'm surprised how good that lot is. Benteke looks great for this week especially. Walcott is an ok final day punt v Villa too.

Looks like with Mane and Hazard in particular I was about 35 weeks too early.

None of that lot are actually in my GWK 38 team though. 🙂

      Amavi Ivanovic Clyne
      Chadli Henderson Depay Cazorla
      Deeney Rooney Kane

      Bench Hennessey Firmino Morgan Baker

Amavi was a hot prospect, was in dream team in GW1 but got injured.

Very rubbish , especially my midfield.
I started with a midfield of Hazarz, cazorla, Chadli, and Depay

      Hazard: 5G 4A all season
      Cazorla: 0G 3A
      Chadli: 3G 2A
      Depay: 2G 1A

Also a special mention to Sebastain Coates who got me -1 point in the only GW I played him.

      courtois (red card)
      Matthews-Morgan-Francis
      Hazard-Depay-Walcott-Siggy
      Benteke-Rooney-Wilson

      Butland-Bellerin-Wanyama-Cedric

      24 pts GW1

      GW3 wildcard out of desperation/necessity!!

Only Butland & Wilson were unwanted transfers out (injury)
Hazard & Bellerin came back later in the season

      Schmeichel (Wayne H)
Kolarov / Ivanovic / Huth (Coates, Targett)
Ramsey / Walcott / Depay / Mane (Fletcher)
      Rooney / Benteke / Pelle.

Absolutely terrible, almost all year. Double Lei defence I never clocked on to again, I did Yaya > Depay a minute before the GW1 deadline, and my determination to avoid masses of bench points made me give myself an absolutely awful bench.

I must say, my team didn't look that bad, but still an awful ranking of 1.6m

*Ruddy Butland (which was a great combo in terms of fixtures)
*Koscielny Azpilicueta Huth Coates Oxford (which still looks decent to me considering Sunderland's run of fixtures at the start of the season and Chelsea was the champion last year)
*Hazard Cazorla Walcott Milner Westwood (Cazorla and Milner were on form in pre-season, Hazard was last years topscorer)
*Sakho Rooney Pelle (with Sakho in form in pre season and Rooney with a great run of fixtures and playing as a striker)

This shows the importance of pre season and how much one can change between 2 seasons I think 😀

      Fabianski
Ivanovic - because the champions will be solid this year at the back, right? Jose will have them drilled!
Cedric - he's bound to be a nailed on source of assists, right?
PvA - Sunderland will totally keep it tight this season, especially at relegation candidates Leicester, right?
Hazard - player of the season candidate!
Walcott - he's going to play up front this year! Hat trick hero of last season GW38 too, right?
Mane - bound to be a consistent source of points, right?
Sinclair - a youthful Villa team look like they'll really give it a go, and Sinclair is the perfect OOP prospect to fly this season, right?
Gomis - a clear favourite in an expensive Swansea team. This is his season to come out of Bony's shadow!
Lukaku - big hitter, and Everton have a great start with fixtures. What could go wrong, right?
Rooney (c) - back up front, and LvG will have United playing expressive attacking football this season, right?

      What could possibly go wrong?
(34 points. An omen, in hindsight. )

A mediocre 34 points with nearly 1.3M OR with this lot 😀

      Pantilimon
      Francis Cedric Huth
      Lens Ritchie Hazard Walcott Ozil
      Pelle Rooney(C)

      Hennessey Sakho Cresswell Saylor

Got Hazard and Cresswell. Hennessey stayed all season until GW33.
Got rid of Hazard straight away in GW 2 for Payet, but got him back for TC in GW37 which went well.

      Hazard - Ramsey - Sterling - Ritchie
      Rooney - Benteke - Wilson

      Schmeichel (Hennessey)
      Ivanovic Huth Cedric (Martin Wanyama)
      Hazard Walcott Ozil Mahrez (Francis)
      Kane Rooney Wilson
      38 on a 34 average, which didn't seem so good until GW2 was 31 on a 44 average

Now just Mahrez/Kane, though kept Ozil through GW36 IIRC and did keep Schmeichel for quite a while as well. These seemed like a good idea at the time, I suppose!

Kept Mahrez from GW1, only other player to survive early wildcard was Wilson.

Other good picks: Butland, Huth, Koscielny and Kane
Had their moments: Cedric, Mane and Milner
Poor picks: Ruddy, Browning, Coates, Hazard, Walcott and Rooney

      Butland | Ruddy
Cedric | Huth | van Aanholt | Holebas | Richards

I have van Aanholt, but didn't keep him for the whole season.

      Myhill, Hennessey
      Kolarov, Huth, Mertesacker, Gomez, Targett
Hazard (C), Walcott (VC), Depay, Lens, Bentaleb
      Aguero, Sakho, Pelle

Not the best but it was close enough to the early season performers with Aguero, Pelle, Kolarov, Targett and Myhill in place that I was up to 11K by gameweek 8.

Hazard went but is back in my team and Aguero's been there whenever fit and, along with Mahrez from gw3 onwards, he has covered for a lot of my mistakes elsewhere.

FPL is as much avoiding the dud picks (e.g. Gomis), or rectifying the mistakes quickly (Lens, Walcott and Depay on my part) as it is getting the 'right' picks in.

      Huth Jagielka Koscielny (Gomez Williams)
      Wijnaldum Walcott Fabregas Milner Mane
      Rooney(c) Benteke (Sakho)

31 points and unfortunately Gomez getting 11 points on my bench.

Huth lasted the longest in my team until my second WC when he was replaced by Simpson.

I genuinely thought that Benteke, Rooney and Walcott were going to be near the top of the points charts this season!

Bellerin and Mahrez have been in there all season.

Ozil was out GW 8-12 when I got rid for Sanchez (Ozil outscored Sanchez during that period so technically, getting Sanchez was one of my worst transfers of the season)

4(Hazard, Ward, Simpson and Cresswell) of them are in my GW38 team.

    Guys,

Long time reader first time poster.

Chasing 13 point first placer in minileague. Need to win. He's taken a -4 hit. What should I do.

    DDG
    Smalling- Rojo - Cresswell
    Hazard - Payet - Barkley - Townsend
    Defoe - Carroll - Deeney

1 FT, money not an issue. Townsend > Sanchez (C) obvious one but worried defoe wont play. Pretty sure rival has brought in kun and sanchez. Not sure whether I avoid the -4 hit and hope Kun blanks or find some kind of differential. Advice!
