Before being sacked last summer, one of Nigel Pearson’s parting gifts to Leicester City was the signing of Christian Fuchs from Schalke on a free transfer. The Austrian international arrived at the King Power Stadium with a strong record of providing goals and assists down the left but had to bide his time under new Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri and failed to start any of the first seven league matches.

THE STATISTICS

A chastening 5-2 home loss to Arsenal saw Fuchs finally usurp Jeffrey Schlupp as Leicester’s first-choice left-back as Ranieri looked to tighten up defensively. This also saw Danny Simpson come in on the opposite side of the back-four as the Italian attempted to address a record of 14 goals against – and no clean sheets – in the first seven Gameweeks.

The Foxes claimed their first shut-out of the season against Crystal Palace in Gameweek 10, and kept a further two clean sheets in their next eight matches. Ranieri’s men them embarked on a remarkable run of 11 clean sheets in their next 15 matches, helping put them in pole position to claim the Premier League title.

Fuchs only missed one match from Gameweek 8 onwards, and chipped in with a credible four assists in addition to 15 clean sheets, helping put him among the top five highest scoring defenders in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) with 150 points. His original price tag stood at 5.0 in FPL, which fell to 4.7 by the time he was inserted into the starting XI in Gameweek 8. After the Leicester defence emerged as a true force during the second half of the season, Fuchs’ price reached a peak of 5.2.

What set Fuchs apart from the rest of the Leicester defence was his ability to rack up the bonus points. The Austrian’s tally of 25, which more than any other defender in FPL, matched the combined total of team-mates Robert Huth, Simpson (both ten) and Wes Morgan (five).

Huth and Morgan both offered far more of a threat than Fuchs due to their aerial threat from set-pieces, scoring three and two goals respectively this season. Both centre-backs did only cost 4.5 at the start of the season, but Fuchs ultimately proved worthy of the extra outlay, averaging 4.7 points per game (ppg), compared to 4.0 for Huth and Simpson and Morgan’s 3.7.

Fuchs also received plenty of individual accolades, including being named in the PFA Team of the Year, and received 13% of the vote to take the final defenders spot in our Team of the Season.

THE PROSPECTS

Although Fuchs firmly established himself as the first choice left-back under Ranieri, the addition of Champions League football next season may persuade the Italian to introduce a degree of rotation to his side next time around.

Certainly, Leicester’s lack of European fixtures, allied with a third round FA Cup exit to Spurs, ensured that the King Power side could concentrate fully on league matters on their way to the title. As a result, the Foxes’ team sheets rarely changed from one week to the next in 2015/16 but with more fixtures on their plate next term, Ranieri will be tempted to utilise the depth of his squad. Fuchs will surely remain the number one option on the left of the back-four, though, on occasion, the Foxes boss could turn to Schlupp or Ben Chilwell to cope with a congested spell of fixtures.

Fuchs started last season as Leicester’s most costly defender – at 5.0 – and, given his level of output, there’d be no surprise if he remained slightly more expensive again. A price rise to around 5.5 in FPL looks likely, and while that could boost the appeal of Huth, Morgan or Simpson for many, the Austrian could still be worth our attention. Aside from his bonus points potential, Fuchs’ delivery from the flank and share of dead-ball duties created 43 chances for his team-mates – second only to Alberto Moreno (56) among defenders.

In addition, Leicester’s tally of 15 clean sheets from the point of Fuchs’ installation was joint-top with Arsenal from Gameweek 8 onwards. This was in part down to the Austrian’s displays – he sits first for successful tackles (77) and second for interceptions (98) over that period, highlighting his importance to the champions’ backline.

With eight shut-outs in their final 11 home fixtures, Ranieri’s side will surely remain on our radars for the season ahead and providing his price isn’t too prohibitive, Fuchs may well have a major part to play in our seasons once again.

Ooooh controversial. I'm a fantasy.road.cc guy myself. In game transfers make it much more enjoyable. Every time I play velogames, less than half of my riders finish the damn race.

            Not in Velogames, no.

Road.cc give you 45 transfers to use as you like over the 21 stages so about 2 per day. Knowing when to roll transfers and when to do a block of 5 or 6 changes is the key.

Road.cc usually mail out prizes to stage winners and the overall winner. Last year I won about £100 worth of stuff in one of the smaller races on the cycling calendar. It's usually stuff like jerseys, socks, cycling shoes or if you're the winner of the full TdF competition a pretty sweet bike. Great stuff to win if you're a cyclist, if you're not a cyclist you could still make a decent chunk on ebay from it.

Yeah I go in fits and bursts of following pretty much every sport out there. Las year I followed pretty much the entire pro cycling calendar but this year I've dropped off to just following some of the big races. Some girl putting a motor inside her bike at the Under 23 world championships was a pretty big turn off. At least with blood doping it's still the strongest person wins. When someone got caught essentially with a mini motorbike that left a sour note.

By the way there is always a fantasy game for everything. I learned that when I discovered fantasy African cup of nations last year and I also accidently stumbled across fantasy non-league football this year covering the 5th to 7th tiers of English football. 😀

I didn't play by the way but here's the link to if you want a gander: http://www.thenonleaguefootballpaper.com/latest-news/conference-premier-step-one/13012/fantasy-non-league-2015-16-details/

Aguero outscored Kane by 0.5 ppg. That's a big factor in pricing.

Comparing to last season, Kane went backwards a touch and Aguero at a similar pace. New manager for Aguero and Dembele for Kane could keep their price at 2 apart.

Surely winning the golden boot and the improvement of Spurs as a force holds weight no? i'm really in the dark about how theses prices are worked out but i'll say now there is not a chance in hell Aguero is 1 mil dearer than Kane never mind 2..

All about ppg, Aguero played 1000 minutes less than Kane and only missed the golden boot by 1.

One and a half. Depending on whether they want to tighten on loosen up the pricing on the premium players, these are my guesses for the most expensive.

                      Aguero £12.5 - £13m
                      Kane £11 - £11.5m
                      Mahrez, Vardy, Sanchez £10.5 - £11m
                      Ozil, Payet, KdB, Sturridge £10 - £10.5m

No. The more good years you have, the more you go up. Kane now has a 2nd good season.

The main reason he won by a goal was that his competition played 200 and 1000 minutes less. Kane will probably be 10.5 or 11 at most. Aguero will be 12.5 at the least.

Depends on how tough FPL want to be. No real reason to drop but having the Euro and Copa America this year may make fresher players will be better to have in the early rounds. He ended up 12.9 last season and 13.3 this season.

Is this guesswork though or is there transparent info from FPL somewhere we can read up regarding how they gauge the price thing..

At the end of the day if i can get my hands on Kane and an extra 2 mil in the bank ahead of Aguero i'll be a happy man

Comparing to previous seasons/other players with minutes/score achieved.
You can compare Mahrez to Yaya a few seasons ago for example.

Ah right.. Guess they have their ways of doing things i strongly disagree with them though.. Kane has matched Aguero for goals and points over 2 years.. Aguero playing less minutes is down to him being injury prone something Kane is not..

So you agree that Aguero is more dangerous when playing? That statement pretty much says that. Sell when out and buy when fit. Sturridge is a similar player just with a much weaker body which is starting to get better.

Not necessarily they both had their lean spells when fit.. I think Kane is every bit as good and has proved it over the last 2 seasons that's my issue..

It's easier to hide a lean period when you play the full season. City were terrible from home managing just 24 goals really hurt Aguero. If they played the same minutes each season, it's not even close hence the pricing.

They will never play the same minutes because Aguero is an injury prone player there is no getting away from that.. Kane is just as explosive and just as capable of knocking in hat tricks for fun even when both are fit and is a better option because of that.. another thing that should be taken into consideration imo

Surely in the interest of the game pricing the two of them at around 12.5 -13 would make things better..
If Aguero comes in at 12.5 and Kane 10.5 every man and their dog has them in their team from the start next season

The thing is when Aguero plays, he outscores Kane per game. If they were both priced at 13, the majority would get Aguero until injured or unless the difference in form was massive. It costs a transfer to sell him when injured. If FPL was a dead team game where you make you team then couldn't make changes all season then Kane would be priced higher or at least the same because the only important thing is the points scored for the season. Still expect Aguero at 13 and Kane possibly 11.

Nothing hugely out of wonk I don't think, but bump up Kane, Aguero, Mahrez & Ozil by half a mil each. Drop Eriksen to 9.0 and drop Alli to 8.5.

Hopefully we'll have a good idea about who will start for Spain after the friendlies. If it's looking like Carvajal I'll definitely downgrade Juanfran to him and probably use the extra 1.0 to get Reus or Hazard in place of Ozil.

Hysaj is nailed on for Albania at 4.5m. Not expecting points from him but he's in group A so can easily sub him out if he blanks.

Few questions in relation to Euro fantasy:

    1. Ronaldo or Muller for the group stages and why? Currently on Ronnie.

    2. Is Griezmann gonna start up front or will it be Giroud?

    3. Does the manual sub rules mean that starting team selection for a Matchday isn't important? It seems like you just put on whoever plays first so you can see if you should sub or not?

    4. Can you convince me that Alaba is a good pick? Is there a genuine potential for attacking returns?

Appreciate all efforts to answers these, thanks.

1 Muller for me. He is custom built for tournaments.
2 Greizmann supporting Gignac. Giroud impact sub.
      3 I believe so
4 The gem of the game. Good pick.
5 Probably. But waiting to see how crow barring Rooney in will impact his role.

      1. I'm going Lewandowski but I'd choose Muller over Ronaldo. Germany score more goals and he's 1.5m cheaper.
      2. Expecting Griezmann out wide with either Giroud or Gignac leading the line.
      3. Yeah, put on whoever plays first.
      4. I think so. On pens and set pieces.
      5. Not for me.

Dont want to publish it if he is doing similar

It looks as though around half have had their worst season in the last six, and every single one of top twenty have had at least three better seasons over the prior five years.

Noturally as they are at the top; they are probably more likely to have had a poorer year as they have a higher standard to meet, so i am also doing a control sample from further down the table

A question for anyone who is experienced playing the Draft League fantasy game and in particular this years Euro Draft game: https://euros.draftfantasyfootball.co.uk/howToPlay

What happens during the later stages of the competition when there are increasingly fewer teams (and therefore players) to pick from, as surely it will get to the stage where aren't enough different players for everyone in the league to have?

I cant see an answer to this anywhere on the rules section so though id ask here

Isn't the number of players an issue? Say 5 teams in each league. There are only really 15 players per team worth getting etc.

A friend of mine knows the guy who runs the site. He just said the limit of 3 players per team stays throughout the tournament so you should be targeting men who you expect to go far (as well as score loads of pts of course)

    Thoughts on this lads?

    Patricio - Hennessey
    Hector - Sagna - Dier - Dragovic - Hysaj
    Ozil - Alaba - Alli - J.Mario - Pilar
    Kane - Griezmann - Ronaldo

-Considering Ronaldo > Muller, yay or nay?
    - Possibly someone other than Griezmann as he might play out wide. Don't fancy him if he does, who in for him?
    - Thoughts on Alli, what alternatives for the same price should I consider?
    - Overall thoughts on this team?

    Appreciate any help, thanks.

I prefer Muller. Better team, better value.
I think Greizmann will play out wide but will still score well.
If Alli plays in the hole for friendlies, keep. Otherwise, not sure.
Generally good team. Who's J Mario?

    or B) Lewandowski + Martial

    Thanks in advance 🙂

If as expected Griezmann & Martial are playing either side of the front man, then B looks the best option.

Fabregas is 7.0 and unloved. If he starts v CR, where will he play? I'm asking because that 7.0 is clearly Alaba's atm due to his PK/SP duties, but is there a chance that Cesc could, given the dearth of genuine top Spanish strikers, play as a false 9 and become undervalued @7?
