Dugout Discussion – Portugal vs Austria

Saturday’s events end with a collision between two sides scrapping for a Euro 16 foothold.

Austria arrived in France with a laudable record in qualifying and were considered a darkhorse. But Marcel Koller’s men were found wanting in their opening fixture, frustrated and eventually overwhelmed by the Hungarians.

That 2-0 defeat means that tonight’s meeting with Portugal is now more vital than ever.

Fernando Santos’ side are also in dire need of the victory.

They were unable to overcome an Icelandic barrier to earn victory in their opening group encounter and now found themselves on the back foot. Defeat to Austria would swing the group wide open, leading to a dramatic final round of matches later this week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

            Tbf, England were unlucky to have conceded in both matches but I get where you're coming from.

            Muller is not as involved as I would like to. Is Giroud a roatation risk, thinking of getting rid of fab instead of Giroud!

      I have brought him in with my WC 🙂 Portugal are a good side and Hungary have relied on late goals to be where they are, I can see Portugal scoring a few! 🙂

      Cristiano averages 10 shots per match!

      Normally that translates to at least 1-2 goals but he was very unlucky... I can't see him not scoring for a 3rd time

    Is a hit worth it? I want to get in Payet before his inevitable price rise but doing it would mean a hit, maybe taking someone like Kane out. Here's my current team-

      Hey, I could be reading this wrong but there's no need for you to save your WC as you'd have one anyway for R16.

      I'd take Kane out and wait to see the line ups to decide whether to keep Giroud.

      Not sure on prices but I'd consider Sturridge as a Kane replacement.

            Everybody likes Bellerin but from what I saw he substituted Alba for Azpi. Spain has to play for at least point to avoid 2 place. Not much rotation imo

        Ah, but we have unlimited FTs for the next round anyway, so wont make any difference if you play your WC this GW. I think a FT can only be carried forward one round.

        Not sure what will happen if you play it in the QF (when we have 4 FTs) - do these all carry through to the SF? I guess we will only know when the time comes!

          It's not clear in the rules. It says NO free transfers can be carried forward once the knock-out stage begins. Although, that might be a reference to transfers from the group stage.

        I went for Yarmo as a punt last week because i thought he looked good against France and they were to play Northern Ireland. Everything changed when they lost that game, so i guess he is good riddance.

        Might get rid of Giroud and Yarmo for either Bale+cheapie or Milik+?
