Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Sunderland.

To get underway, we cast an eye over the Wearsiders’ team statistics under Sam Allardyce and compare them to both the rest of the Premier League and the first eight Gameweeks prior to the departure of Dick Advocaat. After that, we then delve into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects for the season ahead.

After picking up three points – thanks to a trio of draws – in the opening eight Gameweeks, Advocaat’s decision to quit the club saw Big Sam appointed at the helm. The former West Ham boss took a while to steady the ship, though, and helped stave off the threat of relegation by embarking on a run that saw his side lose just twice in the final 14 league fixtures to finish two points ahead of the drop zone.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Spot on mate clear strategy in terms of money distribution in each position although with pre season just begun and transfer window active too early to have anything concrete in terms of personnel apart from one or two certainties

Like i have said all along when Madrid lurk nothing is DONE.. our squad has needed an injection of world class talent for some time now badly lagging behind other teams in England never mind the big boys in Europe.. Quite simply we have a manager that won't tolerate that..

Arteta was club captain last year, it means little at Arsenal. It's more of a statesman role for older player rather than confirmation of matchday captain.

Keeping an eye on him. Conte sees him as a striker and not a CM - an assessment which I agree with. An injury to Costa/Bats during the season might lead to a potential bargain in the form of an OOP 5.5m Chelsea mid. 🙂

Hey everyone, I noticed that the Premier League Fantasy site is back up! Anyone here big into PL Fantasy? As of late, it seems to have become monotonous since by the end of the season everyone usually ends up with the same players. Has anyone tried a draft fantasy epl league? Meaning that there's a snake draft so only one person can have Özil for example. Seems like a better format.

Sorry mate, just trying to get more info and thought this site would be best option. Can't find a relevant forum or article. What site are you doing the draft on? Looking to start a draft league with my mates but a lot of work manually.

You came to the right place, no doubt.
Me and my friends do a manual draft, pen and paper style over a few beers. I'm not in to tech.
I know ppl have mentioned 'fantrax' and then there is 'the dugout' but other ppl can inform you better.
On here the fpl is the main game

Thanks mate! Pen and paper sounds frustrating but better than FPL. By the end my mates and I have the same team pretty much. Doesn't really show much skill imo. Heard of playtogga.com looks like a possible substitution for the pen and paper draft? We're a lazy group of lads haha

        Current draft:

        Foster, Heaton
        Azpilicueta, Shaw, Morgan, Friend, Koné
        Mkhitaryan, Erisken, Tadic, Townsend, Leko
        Aguero, Lukaku, Gray

        0.5 itb

        Reasoning:
        * Foster and Heaton rotate well, and I expect both to rack up save points and hopefully a few CS.
        * Was tempted by TOT and/or ARS as my premium defenders, but MUN and CHE have no Champions League, and Mourinho and Conte will hopefully provide CS.
        * Morgan, Friend and Koné rotate very well for first 20GWs - 14 straight home games to begin, only 4 away, and none of the top 8.
        * Mhiktaryan a punt, but could be very involved. Cheaper than Ibra.
        * Eriksen and Tadic not flashy, but very involved in their teams' goals, and ended last season on form.
        * Townsend could be good value, particularly if Palace sign a decent striker.
        * Aguero is Aguero.
        * Lukaku can troll, but great fixtures. Considering using my extra 0.5 for Costa/Batshuayi though.
        * Gray seems the best of the 6.5 options for now, and Burnley have reasonable opening fixtures. Not wedded to this pick though.

        Thoughts?

I like it and your reasoning

Never realised about that 3-way defensive rotation, might look into it thanks.

I've went with Firmino instead of Eriksen but if I did want Spurs I'd probably go Alli. Avoiding them all for now until Dembele is back

Having Europa League is worse than having no Champions League for fantasy football. More erratic and inconsistent rotation.

              Interesting point - thanks Berbinho.

I guess that affects Shaw, Tadic and Mkitaryan. Shaw most likely I imagine.
