Up next in our series of members articles, which assess the statistics behind the 2015/16 season, is Watford.

We start off by looking at the Hornets’ team data in Quique Sanchez Flores’ solitary campaign at the helm and compare them to the rest of Premier League. After that, we analyse their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the season ahead.

Tipped for the drop by many last time out, the Hornets were quick out the traps and racked up eight wins and five draws in the first 18 Gameweeks. Although Flores’ side failed to maintain momentum over the rest of the season and managed just four victories and as many draws in the final 20 matches, they were never in danger of relegation and ended in thirteenth spot, eight points clear of the bottom three.

Liverpool can't defend - fancy Gray in that one. Plus, doesn't matter if Burnley get stuffed 6-1 as long as Gray gets the 1!
Look at Vardy's brace last year when Leicester lost 5-2 to Arsenal.

Think I may be settled, maybe.

        Mandanda - Jak
        Evans - Shaw - Azpi - Friend - Kone
        Siggy - Bolasie - Eriksen - Leko - Mahrez
        Aguero - Costa/Michy - Long

Still unsure on Long/Kone but aside from that, with £1.5m ITB. It looks extremely well balanced. Gives me flexibility to move players around without having to take hits too, for example - Mahrez > KDB, Bolasie > Tadlc, etc.

Really hope Everton will sign some better goalkeeper. With class keeper and Koeman, they will have perhaps the best defence in league.

Stekelenburg is just sh1ty, and Robles is good enough for 2nd keeper only.

He's been frustrating the last couple of years as he's spent it working hard and kicking people but not really looked like scoring. Last few months of the season that changed somewhat and he carried it though the summer with Argentina too.

Could be a false dawn, but I'm hopeful.

Depends on opponent. Could see a variation of 4231 then a 433. I don't see Studge starting in a 433 in some games, Bobby offers the higher press. 4231 gets them all in though.

Everton 3⃣️-1⃣️ MK Dons match report

⭐ players: Stekelenburg, Funes Mori, Mirallas, Deulofeu

            Notes
            - Defence looked solid, despite missing Baines and Jagielka/ Stones in the first half.
            - The attack looked very good; will be interesting to see if Deulofeu can remain as effective from the wing when Lukaku (presumably) takes the striker spot.
            - Stekelenburg gave a good account of himself, certainly giving Koeman a reason to have him as 1st choice for the start of the season.
            - Very fast, attacking football, so certainly excited about this Everton side as FPL prospects.

Everton 1st half (4-4-1-1): Stekelenburg; Coleman, Pennington, Funes Mori, Oviedo; Tarashaj, Cleverley, Davies, Mirallas; Barkley; Deulofeu.

2’’ A mistake at the back allows Gerard Deulofeu to slot the ball home for the lead. ⚽
12’’ Barkley tries a powerful shot from the edge of the box but it’s blocked.
13’’ Mirallas gets a low shot away but it’s saved.
19’’ Tame shot from distance saved by Stekelenburg. ♜
20’’ Barkley doubles the lead. Deulofeu makes a magnificent run down the right flank and skins his opponent. He gets deep into the box near the touchline before floating a ball back to Barkley at the penalty spot who hits it down into the left side of the goal. Fantastic teamwork. ⚽
24’’ Another good stop from Stekelenburg after a freekick in a dangerous position is struck towards goal. ♜
26’’ Stekelenburg saves and holds a shot from the left side of the box. ♜
28’’ Mirallas shots over the bar from distance.
31’’ Carruthers gives the ball to Rasulo on the edge of the box. Pennington doesn’t close him down quick enough and he curls a shot into the top right corner from the underside of the crossbar. Well out of the reach of Stekelenburg. ⚽
34’’ Tarashaj puts the ball into the bottom left corner from just inside the box but the referee judged there was a handball in there. No goal. ⭕
38’’ Deulofeu wins a freekick on the edge of the box. Mirallas takes it and curls it just wide.
41’’ Reflex save from Stekelenburg with his feet after a corner is not dealt with. The rebound is also cleared off the line by Cleverley. Close call for Everton. ♜
44’’ Tarashaj goes down injured (face). Stretchers called on at first but looks like a bang on the nose and seems to be coming back on after being treated. ☠

Everton 1st half (4-4-1-1): Stekelenburg; Coleman, Pennington, Funes Mori, Oviedo; McGeadyj, Cleverley, Davies, Mirallas; Barkley; Deulofeu.

46’’ Stekelenburg calmly saves a curling shot that is hit straight towards him. ♜
47’’ Deulofeu’s shot inside the box is blocked and goes out for a corner. The resulting corner is taken by Mirallas and Pennington heads it wide.
53’’ A deflected shot drops the ball in space in the box where the MK Dons attacker is rushing in. Stekelenburg comes out and defends it brilliantly to deny the equaliser. ♜
54’’ Great play from Mirallas as he links up superbly with Deulofeu in the box. The Belgian’s shot is just too heavy and goes over.
57’ Another great bit of link-up play between Mirallas and Deulofeu but the Spaniard’s shot is blocked this time in the box.
63’’ Oviedo, Pennington, Funes Mori, Coleman, Davies, Mirallas, Barkley and Cleverley subbed for Baines, Stones, Galloway, Holgate, Besic, Lennon, Gibson, Galloway, Dowell. ↩️
72’’ Baines whips in across that is deflected onto the foot of McGeady in the centre of the box. But he hits it right at the keeper and can’t convert the chance.
80’’ Deulofeu subbed for Grant. ↩️
86’’ Lennon hits a cross to Besic who heads it goalward. The ball takes a heavy deflection before going in but will stand as a goal for Besic. ⚽

            Match rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆

What are your choices out of these.
            Either :-
            A.Hazard Ayew Tekkers Austin
            Or
            B. Tadic , Ayew Tekkers Lukaku

            And why

            Many thanks.

I think B is better but A gives you more flexibility. Going A allows you to switch Hazard to the 9.5's if they start well - Mahrez Mkhi Payet Ozil. It's good to be flexible early doors. I'd go A for that reason.

Not easy to pick a strike force here. Going with Zlatan alongside Aguero and a budget midfield is getting more and more tempting for me.

I like it. Apparently Jakupovic might start so worth having him as your 4.0?

Reasonable punts apart from that! Can't give much advice currently as it's the start of the season so everything is open to debate!

Love the team. I would though. The only difference we have is Azpil to Morgan and Townsend to Tadic. Looks a good spread of values across the team making transfers relatively easy.

            Hi all

Hope you're well this fine summer's eve.

Been tinkering tonight (steady, not like that!) and come up with this team. What dyu guys reckon? I think I'm pretty covered with it:

            Cech Jakupovic
            Shaw Azpi Friend Jevans 4.0
            SirSiggy Mkhi. Deulofeu Eriksen Capoue
            Gray Vardy Aguero

Anything I should be worried about it trying to fit in? Was thinking about double City but I think Conte will have Chelsea tight at the back hence Azpi investment

            Thanks in advance!

I would try and get hazard or KdB. Deulofeu nailed on?
              Vardy worth the £?
Don't think there is a starting 4.0 defender?

                Hey man, thanks for replying

I like Deulofeu as a cheap option (Gradel is another I like, or if Chadli goes to Swansea then him) and I'll think he'll start to be in the first XI this season, he's at that age. Can always replace if the punt doesn't pay off 🙂

I reckon Vardy is underrated. Naturally fit and Leicester starting the season as the champions. I expect a lot of people will overlook him so he'll be a nice differential.

I don't think there is a 4.0 player who starts. I just want the lowest % one and keeping it at 4.0.

That's my reasoning anyway - could be total nonsense 🙂

A little too much on gks and D...which results in a weakened milfield, usually the heaviest scoring part of the game.

I'd downgrade gks to Heatster and remove Azpi for Wollschield/McAuley. Delafool and Eriksen need upgrading to the likes of KGB, Mahrez and possibly Hazard.

There's probably better value than Vardy too if you look for it.

              Rating: 4/10.

Is it just me that no matter what team I make, I think "Damn how can I fit *insert 2/3 premium players* in" seems so many options! Managed to be fairly happy with this and am still thinking I might want Everton, Southampton or Chelsea defence along with Sanchez KDB Hazard or Mahrez as extra in midfield and then even up front I wish I could fit in Kane or Ibra for Costa...

            Foster Jako
Otamendi Shaw Gabriel Fernandez Smith(or any 4.0)
            Mkhi Eriksen Tadic Ayew Fletcher
            Aguero Costa Gray

Smooth - wonder about Walker always starting (UCL rotation) and also about Zaha starting. KdB could also start the season late so I'd maybe invest in a United midfielder instead who isn't euro burnt out (e.g. Mkhi).

Don't know if Costa is the #1 striker with Bat there and maybe Lukaku... any alternative?

              That's about it 🙂

Zaha was Palace supporters player of the year so maybe Pardew will play Bolasie/Townsend/Zaha behind Wickham

I originally had Mkhi in but wasn't sure if he'd hit the ground running. Likewise with Lukaku. Late back plus wants a move. Will monitor Chelsea preseason re Costa

Very likeable and I like how you go for the cheapest way into a D, something which many on here fail to do.

However, your weakest area is your mids. Eriksen is a little on the light side, Miki is a hunch pick at this stage and Ayew tailed off badly last season.

I'd downgrade Ibra and get the likes of KGB, Mahrez, Hazard in there.

              Rating: 5/10.

Thank you for your feedback - now i can rub my head once again around my FPL squad!

I like the idea of Kun and Ibra up front supported by Wilson without injury. It is hard to downgrade Ibra being a optimistic united-fan. Ayew is exiting with OOP potential and initial home-matches vs Burnley and Hul. After that maybe willian or Tadic might be good replacements? By downgrading Townsend to Gradel i can upgrade Eriksen to a 9.5 mid. Ill probably start up Mahrez for the first match vs Hull. Im not convinced on Hazard despite a good Euro. If Arsenal buys a premium striker Mkhi is replaced by özil. If Berahino travels to Stoke he might be an option for Wilson. Too much of a risk doubling on bournemouth in my attacking line?

              After adjustments:
              Foster - Heaton
              Shaw - McAuley - Stones - Pieters - Fry
              Mkhi - Mahrez - Ayew - Gradel - Leko
              Ibra - Aguero - Wilson
