Our series of articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, comes to its conclusion with a look at West Ham.

First up, we cast an eye over the Hammers’ team statistics in Slaven Bilic’s first campaign in charge and compare them to the rest of the Premier League and the previous season. After that, we then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources ahead of the season kick-off in just over two weeks’ time.

After finishing in twelfth place in 2014/15, the club parted company with Sam Allardyce and installed Bilic at the helm as they looked to cultivate a more attack-minded style of play in their final season at Upton Park.

It’s fair to say that the Croatian made an instant impact – away wins over Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City in the opening six Gameweeks set the trend for what was to follow, as the Hammers finished in seventh spot on 62 points, just four points behind fourth-placed Man City and 15 more than they managed in Big Sam’s final year.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Ibrahimovic and Siggy/Tadic/Barkley

I have started 2 million + each of the last 3 seasons and ended up playing catch up and finishing 9,000 - 30,000 and 60,000. I'd like to get off to a decent start this year any tricks you guys use?

      This is my team:

      Heaton, Foster
      Mori, Ward, Morgan, Friend, Kone
      Mhrez, Martial, Ayew, Lamela, Capoue
      Aguero, Lukaku, Gray

Pick 15 completely different players to those and you might be in with a chance!

I like to trash talk at the beginning to unnerve my mini league opponents.

Send them an invite to your victory party in May.

Also lie about your intentions regards your team

One thing you can do is select a fairly template high ownership squad. That way after first couple weeks you should be mid-pack, and certainly not OR 2m.

Then early WC for players performing and start climbing from there?

Good point - I'm always so tempted with a clear slate to pick some players that are off the beaten path (clearly has not worked fo r me)

          • 14 Years
          9 years, 11 months ago

Yeah that's your problem. If they fail you immediately go to the back of the cue and it's a long old journey from there.

Aim for boring first couple weeks, with 20-50% ownership players and you should be better placed.

Just play it safe GW1. Go for the more reliable Mahrez, Ayew, Aguero types not the Mkhitryan, Ibra, Barkley etc

That is such good advice from both Jafooli & SW6.

As with Kunbayaya I have always been on the back foot from the beginning. Unlike Kunbayaya I never got up to those nose bleed generating giddy heights.

Thanks. A retweek of my team is in order.

    RMT please....

    Courtois / Jaku
    Sagna / William / Terry / Paredes / Evans
    Noble / Willian / Silva / Ayew / Fletcher
    Rondon / Aguero / Ibra

Courtois + Terry a bad idea? as they have easy fixtures until GW 4.

But he was a good consistent goal scorer, when the other big names were not turning up. I can't see him whacking 5-6 away in the first few GW, whereas someone like Kun/Kane/Ibra could well do I feel.

      That's just my two cents.

I'm avoiding Costa, never know what is going to turn up with him and rotation risk only makes it worse - I really hope he goes because then think Baty will be a very interesting choice and cheaper than having Hazard in midfield.

Lots of people seem unhappy about the price, but 6m for Azpi last season would have seemed fair and Conte will likely be playing strong defensive style, if not employing wingback style so he could be in the money. Also CS can only be on the rise for Chelsea when you add Kante to the mix (if see any my other comments you will get the idea I am a fan)

I think Azpi will be one I can just leave in my team for the season.

One has the Central Midfielder that made the most tackles and most interceptions last season and the other doesnt anymore. Last season Leicester started off the season conceding quite a few goasl but just scoring more themselves for the win, and suspect might happen again.

Plus when add Champs League into the mix (admittedly while away) then struggle even more I think, whereas Chelsea defender be a good investment to put in team and leave and enjoy CS and BP aswell as well as good chance of assists/goals if do get more of a wingback role.

    Kun Lukaku (Wilson)

And West Ham didnt have the best CS record at all, more focus on the attacking - Cresswell was good option for the potential attacking returns, so not sure the 4.5 for Byram worth the risk of rotation. (if he was 4m would be a completely different story 😉 )

    Courtious-Jaku
    Evans-Shaw-Friend (2 non-playing subs)
    KDB-Mkhi-Mahrez-Ayew (Capoue)
    Aguero-Long-Gray
    0.5 in the bank
Dont think I'll need any changes in defence for the first 3 weeks. I have 0.5 in the bank so can easily do a -4 to downgrade KDB or Mahrez to Eriksen or 7.5 and upgrade Gray or Long to Lukaku after his Spurs' game in GW1.

    Aguero - lukaku - Gray

    A) Morgan + Eriksen + townsend
    B) 4.5 + Mahrez + Bolasie

Eriksen Bolasie + Terry>Azpi , think Eriksen going be a good pick with both Kane and Jansen there (one is bound to turn up straight away). Bolasie is maybe less consistent than Townsend but for 0.5 cheaper I think he is worth it bc he could have a great start, and Azpi is more secure & points potential than Terry for only 0.5 more.

Walker/Terry/VVD - there's quite a few options over Dann in my opinion

Anyone keen on Ayew? Did well last season. Manager says he may play him upfront. Did he do that last season?

Given their back four for GW1 will include Holding and Chambers, I'm not convinced

Rightfully so, this is the first time I've ever been without Arsenal at the start. Koscielny, Ramsey, Özil, Alexis, and Giroud will probably all miss the first game so unless you take a punt, Bellerín is the only lucrative option and he's priced at £6.5m.

Only 1 I was interested on was Bellerin , but at 6.5 just not possible, yet

It does just seem wrong when I look at it, tempted by Iwobi as budget for first few weeks as he is likely to get a run out with those names being rested. Defensively they will be improved I think Granit will help and really hoping they get a new CB in, in which case Bellerin/Monreal could be worth the price.

I think people are. I know who I'm getting.

Mesut Ozil is quite possibly the finest chance creator of all time. I'm all for goal scoring mids, but this guy is on another planet when it comes to picking out a pass. Personally, I think he's great value at 9.5m, especially after a 200pts season.

He wouldn't be worth the risk as he'd be have competition from Montero/Dyer/Barrow for one position

    Hi all,

I'm looking at Crystal Palace defence options and have seen Soare (4.5m) played the second most minutes out of the CPL defence.

Is Soare nailed on to start?

    Thanks!

    Mkhitriyan Ayew Eriksen Gradel
    Ibrakadabra Aguero Gray

    S: jakupovic/Friend/Paredes/Fletcher

Think there is better value than Schmeichel now they lost Kante securing their defense, and doubling Man Utd attack could be risky when there are some good options out there Kane/Vardy/Mahrez/Hazard/Lukaku
