Our series of articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, comes to its conclusion with a look at West Ham.

First up, we cast an eye over the Hammers’ team statistics in Slaven Bilic’s first campaign in charge and compare them to the rest of the Premier League and the previous season. After that, we then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources ahead of the season kick-off in just over two weeks’ time.

After finishing in twelfth place in 2014/15, the club parted company with Sam Allardyce and installed Bilic at the helm as they looked to cultivate a more attack-minded style of play in their final season at Upton Park.

It’s fair to say that the Croatian made an instant impact – away wins over Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City in the opening six Gameweeks set the trend for what was to follow, as the Hammers finished in seventh spot on 62 points, just four points behind fourth-placed Man City and 15 more than they managed in Big Sam’s final year.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Valdes / Jaku
    Shaw / Walker / Azpi / Fernandez / Friend
    Mikhi / Alli / Townsend / Kouyate / Fletcher
    Aguero / Ibra / Long

    Any comments please?? ... Thanks

Interesting pick with Kouyate. How much is he?

I think your defence is too expensive, but overall the team is nice.

I'd downgrade one of the expensive defenders to Gabriel or a 4.5, do Townsend to Bolasie and upgrade Kouyate

Predict the three clubs that will get relegated from the premier league at the end of the season.

I'm going for Hull, Sunderland and Swansea.

I can't see them doing that. Their team was too bad for PL last season, they stayed up, lost their manager and haven't signed anyone yet. I think it's pretty close to impossible for them to escape the relegation.

Hull (similar situation), Sunderland and Burnley to go down.

Di Canio sacked --> (Kevin Ball) Gus Poyet in --> escaped relegation
Gus Poyet sacked --> Dick Advocaat in --> escaped relegation
Dick Advocaat sacked --> Big Sam in --> escaped relegation

disagree. Best team we've had since 2010 (when Bent, Welbeck and Gyan were banging in the goals). Squad is threadbare though - can't even get a full matchday squad out with the players listed on FPL.

I reckon the three that came up will go straight back down.

Sorry, I just can't agree there 🙂 It's impossible for your players to be better than last season, when you've lost Fletcher, Harper, Brown, Graham, Vergini, Matthews, Coates and signed no one. Not that these guys are any good, but if you lose players and sign no one, you just can't imrpove the quality of your squad, unless the youth players have made such a drastic step up in 2 months time.

They did finish the season strongly though, it was their poor start that almost scuppered them. A good start should see them through, but I don't think Moyes will do it.

They've signed Jan Kirchoff, Lamine Kone and Wabhi Khazri.

Three players who made a massive impact on the team towards the end of last season and are worth much more to the team than the players you've named

He's a weird manager, one minute you're playing good footy under him then next it's utterly dire, it's like at Newcastle, one season they're challenging for a CL place, the next they're fighting off relegation

Have been settled on this team for week or so. I think it's about ready for a sense-check.

    Foster, Heaton
    Azpilicueta, Shaw, Morgan, Friend, Kone
    Mahrez, Eriksen, Tadic, Townsend, Leko
    Aguero, Lukaku, Gray

    0.5 in bank

    * Foster/Heaton rotation looks good, though rotation makes me anxious about benched points.
    * Morgan/Friend/Kone gives 14 home games in a row to start the season, all fairly favourable (STO, MID, SWA, CPL, BUR, CPL, SOT, WAT, CPL, BOU, WBA, HUL, MID, HUL)
    * 0.5 gives me flexibility to upgrade any position if need be.

    Any critcisms/glaring clangers?

Nice rotation in defence that, but think it's a tad too much.

I'd lose Morgan for a 4.5 and Townsend for Bolasie, and use the dosh for Eriksen to a 9.5

Looks nice and balanced - like the Mahrez pick, especially given first game against depleted Hull side.

Only worry for me is lack of Man U / Chelsea attack - are you not convinced?

        Thanks mate.

I had Mkhitaryan to begin with but transferred to Mahrez as he's more of a sure thing. If Mkhit starts well it's a straight swap.

Was tempted by Costa/Batshuayi, but want to see how they play together and how Chelsea play under Conte. If they do well, I can swap Lukaku to either one.

Hi Fellas. It's nice to be back reading all the comments on FFS

Can I have some thoughts on my team

    Foster / Heaton
Shaw, Gabriel, Schlupp (if at WBA), Friend, 4m (Wilson)
    Ayew, Hazard, Mahrez, Deulofleu, Højbjerg
    Kun, Ibra, 4.5m (Grabban)

Intending to play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 if Højbjerg nails a place under Puel

Thanks for any thoughts and ideas

I don't really like it but something has got to tive with Kun + Ibra + Haz + Mahrez. Your defence is kind of shaky. I don't like Arsenal's fixtures and with Koscielny and Mertesacker not available from the start I would avoid. As a fan, I will for sure.

United start without Smalling, and I read over here that Mourinho doesn't really do that well at the start of the competition. Wilson for 4.0, I don't know. As a foreigner I don't really know that much about Boro, and I don't have the stats to tell you if Schlupp is a better option than Dawson for 5.0.

I do like the midfield 🙂

Thanks for the input. I am banking on Gabriel having no competition with Mertsacker, so guaranteed starts. As a fan too, I am hoping for clean sheets rather than believing.

I just fancied starting with Kun + Ibra + Haz + Mahrez in my team with Shaw in defence. If Schlupp goes to WBA I think he's a good pick for 5m.

        Thanks DAAF.

Food for thoughts guys. Koeman last season said that Kante presence in the centre of the Leicester's midfield unshackled Mahrez in a way when it comes to making forward runs and playing with more freedom going forwards in general. Hazard's 200 points plus season incoming?

    Have your say 😀

Agree Hazard will do well, but not really for that reason as he didn't really not have freedom or make loads of forward runs beforehand.

Won't improve or worsen Hazard's prospects I think is what I mean

    Bare with me on this:

Carroll and Long (both 6.5) rotate perfectly with plum home fixtures straight up. Not having that second heavy hitter allows an incredible midfield, i.e:

    Mkhi Fabregas Tadic Townsend Firmino

... and an upgrade to two decent mid-priced defenders (Shaw & Azpil) rather than a west brom or palace defender.

I'm liking the looks of this more and more... anyone else going with 3-5-2?

The team ATM and reasons why I've picked them, if anyone's bothered:

Mandanda/Jak - It was either Mandanda or Foster then either Evans or Souare, I've gone for the former purely because it fits my team better.

Shaw - One of my 'premium' defenders, good fixtures, easiest way into United's defence and potential for assists as well as CS.

Azpi - Had to have one of our defenders in there, been in for a while and like Shaw, I think it's the best option into our defence. Fancy Chelsea to keep the most CS' this season and last night's performance v Liverpool made me even more confident.

Evans - Should be nailed, I think. (?), WBA, Pullis, fixtures, no brainier.

Friend/Kone - Decent enough fixtures, rotate well with my other defenders and that's all I can ask for £4.5m, assume many others will have the same.

Mahrez - Last season's golden boy, at £9.5m and against an abysmal looking Hull side opening day, gives me freedom to upgrade or downgrade too. He'll likely turn into Alexis/KDB at one point I imagine, depends whether he stays or not too.

Siggy - Mr consistent for a couple years now, saved my bacon a few times in ML's and Swansea have a great couple set of fixtures at the start. My fave £7.5m pick.

Eriksen - Quite like the idea of having him, had the summer off, nailed and again like Mahrez, gives me options of upgrading/downgrading very easily.

Bolasie - Gone for him as my cheap 4th mid, fancy him to do well this season if he stays injury free. Like Mandanda, great set of fixtures too and having Bolasie I believe gives me a much more balanced side.

Aguero - No explanation needed. Best player in the league, best FPL option.

Costa - Tipping Diego to benefit from having a partner in Michy this year, the way we've played in pre-season see's us countering a lot, Willian/Hazard down the sides will give Costa a lot of opportunity for the type of goals he likes to score. An easy upgrade/downgrade too if it all goes pear shaped.

Berahino - Like many, I'm still unsure on my 3rd forward slot, going with Berahino atm purely because I fancy him to be the key striker IF he moves and when he does play, he usually scores and at £6.5m, that's all I can ask.

    Mandanda
    Shaw - Azpi - Friend (Evans/Kone)
    Mahrez (c) - Siggy - Eriksen - Bolasie
    Aguero - Costa - Berahino.

      Missing that 5th mid.

Like it all except Eriksen. Prefer Alli, and also could easily work a 9.5 mid in that slot with a bit of funds shifting

Mainly swung Eriksen's way due to a long rest he's had and I have £1.5m ITB so I could afford it straight away, just I prefer the idea of something ITB so it gives me flexibility straight away.

As for the 5th mid, I still haven't a clue. Ha!

Oh nice! Well, then I'd definitely opt for Mkhitaryan over Eriksen, but obviously down to preference. Solid all round

It's a nice position to be in. I mean I could even squeeze KDB in if I drop someone by £0.5m for example, who knows! I'll ponder some moves the next week or so, but overall I'm happy.

Just had an auto-playing video ad for the new star trek movie with sound while this wasn't even the open tab. Nice interruption to my music.

Happy to pay for membership, but maybe take it easy with the rich media.

Just went to get a case of Corona from down the shop and managed to drop it on the floor in the middle of the store, got myself another case and just as I walked out the shop it bucketed down with rain, which has now stopped after my walk home.

    Great start to the afternoon.

Does anyone know a good alternative to the FFS fixture ticker. Every season I have used this as my bible. Extracting to an excel sheet to help me work out my team selection & transfers for the coming weeks. Now to my knowledge you can no longer extract in the same way, keeping all the colour and arrangement.

Any help would be much appreciated

Why do most think Foster - Heaton rotation is the best? Doesn't Foster - Valdes/Mandanda work just as well rotation wise, or do we think Heaton is overall the best GK option out of the bunch?

Valdes was dreadful last season...Mandanda if nailed would be fine instead of Heaton as both prolific savers etc for baps....

We'll see how well Fabregas adopts to Conte's system, but the rest looks good, maybe an addition of a WBA defender would do your team good.
